Fun fact: Mortimer is probably based on the 1930s celebrity, Jimmy Durante, who says "Ha cha cha cha" a lot and is caricatured to have a long nose or snout in cartoons.
Weirdly enough though, he never said "Ha Cha Cha" in his first and only classic Disney short appearance, Mickey's Rival. It was something his modern voice actor, Maurice LaMarche, came up with when they brought him back for the Mickey Mouse Works tv show.
@@andrewpotts Huh, well, Mortimer does seem very similar to the other cartoons caricatures (even Mickey did a Jimmy Durante impression once) so it would make sense why his new VA came up with that.
I went through the entire video and he didn't really answer the title question: Why Does Mortimer Mouse Say Ha Cha Cha? Thankfully, @walmaker8372 has got my back, answering the question this video posed, and then didn't bother answering.
*Fun Fact:* "Mortimer" was originally going to be Mickey Mouse's name, but Walt Disney's wife, Lillian, disapproved it that she suggested to give the Mouse a name "Mickey" instead. Thus, the "Mortimer" name is now given to another character who becomes a rival and a foil to Mickey Mouse.
Not to mention that Mickey had a similar personality to Mortimer in the earliest Mickey cartoons. Plane Crazy being a good example. The concept of Mortimer is why I find him an interesting character.
@@bcgaming4236 Imagine if we got an Epic Mickey game, where instead of Oswald being the bitter one, its Mortimer longing for what could have been haven been snubbed from fame because of one disapproval. That would be so amazing, especially if internet culture giving him more credit and just people knowing he exists is used in the story
@@egbertmilton4003 Dolly: Could be some Version of the Game Where Mickey & Oswald Could Help Him! Idk how many there are in the Franchise(?) But That could Work!
He's been saying "Ha-cha-cha" since Mickey's Mouse Works, at least. (I haven't seen him in earlier appearances.) Strangely, one of the better antagonists on that show.
the original Ha Cha Cha came frim Jimmy Durante, a comedian from the 1930s to late 50s. there's a lot of hachacha homages to Jimmy in various cartoons from the time, including looney toons, hannah barbera, etc. his iconicly giant nose, is the one thing all these "ha cha cha" characters have in common. the ha cha cha rabbit hole goes way deeper than this video. LIMC, has failed us lol
Despite your comparison of Mortimer to Robbie Rotten in this special, I would say he’s more like Brainiac. Both of them have a desire to go and collect different places (e.g. planets or in Mortimer’s case, the entire clubhouse).
I’m very happy that one of the most obscure Disney characters is getting the spotlight again. He’s definitely the Waluigi of the Mickey Mouse universe.
While Mickey has had a lot of enemies throughout the years, such as Pete, the Mad Doctor, the Phantom Blot, Willie the Giant, the Beagle Boys, Kat Nipp, Sylvester Shyster, the Weasels, Master Xehanort, and practically every other Disney villain, Mortimer will always be Mickey’s one and true rival, someone who try’s to be better than Mickey or try to take Minnie from him, but always ends up failing, and that’s why I’m happy that everyone is now appreciating Mortimer with the power of meme culture!
Oh my goodness, my younger brother used to make us watch this all the time. I remember thinking that this episode in particular has so much meme potential. Glad to see it happen :) The part where Goofy says "it makes soup?" has in particular been burned into my memory.
it makes me kinda happy thinking about the fact that in 100 years people will be seeing these videos just to understand what were his ancestors doing on their phones
This is Un ironically my favorite episode of this show when I was a kid and his motive makes these meme’s even better (he’s lonely so he wants to collect everything in the world)
*Fun fact:* In the Outland comics series, Mortimer was depicted as mickey's brother "In real life" and was a character actor and a stunt double for mickey in the classic cartoons. He is shown to go to war at some point (Korea?) And after returning gets into a fight with the new CEO, getting him banished to Outland as an unwanted cartoon Character.
Now, if only he'd show up in Kingdom Hearts. I could see him acting as Mickey's regent while he's gone and messing things up, which the player would have to fix.
I just saw the Ha-Cha-Cha compilation hoirs ago because it was randomly recommended to me. Didn't know it actually became a meme. Actually a good one once in a while.
I grew to love Mortimer from House of Mouse, I had no idea he was in the CG cartoon too. Incredible! Love seeing this little bastard crop up again. We love tall lanky purple-themed prankster/mischief maker villains in this house.
Apparently some people don't remember this guy at all...which lead people to think that he is literally a Mandela effect for some people cause they don't remember ever seeing this character as they grew up...
What alternate universe did I wake up in where Mortimer Mouse ever existed? I never seen this character in my life and now you're telling me that he's a meme?
Bro you've got to see the dramatic scene of skibidi toilet where the brave duo died just to sacrfice themselves on fighting scientist toilet . It was another peak moment of the series . #skibiditoilet #thebraveduo
I just love how casually the beam shoots out when he's doing that shrink ray thing. He's just like "one shrink ray coming right up ha cha cha" boop. And then of course its usually re-contextualized to be a destruction beam making him seem more like a psychopath with no regret for what he is destroying.
Mortimer's mannerisms are inspired by Jimmy Durante although the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse version according to Maurice LaMarche was inspired by Jon Lovitz.
