Many thanks for the helpful plumbing tips! Can you do a video on roof vent pipes … how related to plumbing system, signs that they need cleaning out, replacing, etc. Many homeowners (including me!) have probably ignored this essential part of their home’s plumbing system.
The easiest way to clean a roof vent is go on the rooftop, take a garden hose and put it down the pipe, each vent one at a time, for about 3-4 minutes. If the water doesn’t backup, then the vents are clear. This is the lesson on cleaning the vents. I have run into plugged vent pipes twice in my 50 years of plumbing. First time was about 6 months into my apprenticeship and the second was about 6 months to a year before I retired. Flashbacks!
FYI we owned a 50 year home with a septic tank and the plumbing wouldn't drain despite usual methods. A plumber had to get on the roof with an auger down to clean it out. An old home is a problem home, skip the nostalgia folks, newer is better.
