@@ivyalmojeno8120 The curved part should face toward the sewist. Update: I need to clarify my original reply: Depends on what is meant by "curved part". The needle shank for most modern home sewing machines have a flat side and a curved side with the flat side to the back and the curved side to the front (facing the sewist). The best way to know which way to face it is to check one's particular sewing machine's manual (as a booklet or pdf from online).
Hi Jennifer, someone here resolved my top thread braking issue despite every method I tried from your video. I didn't know every time you use a new needle the curve side needs to face towards me (sewist). Perhaps you should include it as well since most of us are not expert sewist like myself. Happy to finally get some sewing done. Woohoo, up the buccaneers!!
I would also like to let you all know to check your thread and fabric compatibility. Depending on the fabric type, stretch and thickness you're going to need some durable and strong thread like 100% polyester thread. I was using cotton thread or a super soft and thick plush fabric and it kept breaking my top thread when sewing especially when I would increase the speed of sewing. I switched to 100% polyester thread for that project and no more top thread breaks! The details matter! So if you've exhausted all possible errors, check to see if your thread is even compatible with the fabric you're using. Your quality and kind of thread can truly make or break your project (literally lol)
I'm surprised that she didn't mention changing out your needle... Sometimes needles can develop nearly-microscopic burrs along the shaft or eye, which ends up shredding the thread as it passed by it. If you've tried everything else listed here, try changing to a new needle!
I just found out why my upper thread was breaking, I had the upper thread under the foot and pulled away with the lower thread instead of from the needle OVER the foot, it was being chewed up by the teeth of the needle plate. I found this out after taking a break to make some tea, my wife would have told me this before, but she wanted a cup of tea also, if in doubt, make a cup of tea then everything will be fine :-)
The three biggest thread breaking issues I had occurred because: 1) The tension was too low; therefore, the thread got caught under the needle while sewing and was cut in half (worse with cheap thread) 2) The thread was too cheap. It just didn't have the strength to run at higher speeds and any slight catch would break it 3) As said here, the tension was too high and the thread (cheap again) just broke. All issues solved now by getting good quality, stronger thread and having a quick play with the tension (mid-tension was usually always fine)
I'm sewing for about 15 years and never before I gad this problem so often as now. Some months ago I had a chance to work with some professionals in a factory and they told me that quality of the threads have gone down the toilet in recent years...so they cannot withstand tension on higher speed. Don't save money on it buy a bit more expensive threads...they are making them thinner and thinner to make more money on them.
I might add one more thing to check as to why your thread might be breaking. I have older thread that I didn't realize was the problem until I changed it to a new spool and now it's stopped breaking.
New Coats thread, changed needle, machine just refurbished due to not knowing to oil it and thread is making me crazy; stews a minute then thread comes out of needle Help me if who can I'm feeling down....
Mone was the machine tension (not the thread tension barrel with discs but the other tension wheel on top) it was on 7 and I changed it to 5, sewed fine until then my needle snapped, probably due to being bent under the tension. All okay now, thanks
A less known cause: the needle bends slightly and hits the tip of the shuttle hook. The hook tip then bends slightly and keeps breaking the thread. Fix : use a thin nose pliers to gently straighten the hook tip. Make sure the needle is straight or replace it. And always let the fabric material be moved by the presser foot, don't block or rush it by hand
if the top thread is being pulled down into the machine, the tension needs to be increased... otherwise if there are excess threads inside the bobbin area, it could be catching on the case. make sure there are no rips or chips in the metal around it that the string could catch on (might need a service)
Hi, I came to know from a different video that I was using a bad quality thread and I changed the whole spool with a better quality thread and it worked
Another problem is the little slit on the rim of the spool that is supposed to hold the thread end on the spool when you are not sewing. Sometimes the thread catches in this slit and the "brakes" go on and it breaks. For a Vertical spool - turn the spool over so the slit is on the bottom, Horizontal spool - use an end cap that is big enough to cover the end of the spool.
OMG! I have been struggling with this stupid machine for two days, I check and the darn needle was in backwards. Thank you! You have saved Halloween for a very special 4 year old!
Omg thank you so much! You saved my life! My partner was about to throw her machine at me and this fixed her problem with the thread snapping 10 times a minute
+Rachel Robison You seriously just saved my machines life because i was about to throw it out the window! I had tried everything multiple times but never realized the needle was backward. Thank you!!
I’m just a beginner sewist and everytime I use the zigzag stitch my machine starts making a loud clicking noise and the upper thread just breaks, idk what to do can you help me ?
I have watched every video for the past 2 days. Im ready to throw it out the window. Everything l have done as said and checked everything. I an going crazy…😭 thank you fir your help but i think my machine had to go.
My needle thread keeps breaking, i have triend everything from rethreading, changeing the needle, turning the needle, I have checked it seems like the bobbin compartment is chafing right where the needle goes down.... What to do?
Can somebody please tell me if they are using a generic replacement needle and their sewing machine thread still keeps breaking every 2 seconds? Like I ran out of the ones my sewing machine came with and I ordered cheap ones but now I can't put in a stitch😭😭😭😭
Can it also be my fabric? Like it may be too thick or anything? I mean, it doesn't happen to a thinner piece of fabric I used…. So maybe I need thicker thread or something? Because each time after some stitches the thread breaks from the needle.
Hi . I have the exact same problem, the fabric is fleece and the thread keep on breaking but not on other fabrics/ cotton. I have no idea why because it is not a thick fabric. I figured to ask you since you had asked this question and hopefully by now have an insight .. Regards
I have an ancient Vigetti which Wouldn't trade fora new machine:all metal. I have serviced yearly and oil it once monthly. Thread keeps breaking after few stitches at times and none of those obstacles you motioned are happening. Her/ please??
Also, never use HAND sewing thread in a sewing machine. It will either be too fragile for the rapid speed of a sewing machine or it will have a glazed finish that you can't see but the sewing machine will not function well.
Now the single machine is sewing but the thread in not on the material I changed the needle last week and sewing well when bang the the needle in an out but thread in on the fabric gosh it’s killing me . I just had it 1 Uten sewing machine thread break 2 singer sewing machine sewing but no thread on the material
Mine sewing machine is a Singer Curvy model #8763 and my top thread got caught in the thread glider. I think that it's a little piece of wire that's sticking out. Can someone help me?
This video was not very detailed, and left off several other things that could cause thread breakage. No mention of nicks in the metal parts of the thread path, or damaged throat plate. Some machines also seem to prefer the thread coming off the spool in a specific direction. (clockwise/anti-clockwise). This almost seems to be a video aimed at very new sewers with one type/maker of machine.
This time my thread kept breaking I finally checked my bobbin. I kept getting birds’ nests under there. I opened the door where the bobbin was, and the whole assembly came tumbling out onto my desk. Well there’s the culprit: that bobbin casing wasn’t seated properly!
I've changed the needle, checked the foot, checked the top thread, the bottom spool changed the tension up, changed it down, screamed loudly and still can't do a whole stitch before the thread breaks. This is why I hate hate hate sewing machines 😒 😤
tighten it, it must be extremely annoying like these videos so I suggest you go type "how to service your own sewing machine" I know everything about my machine now, it's that simple. if your machine is used a lot or old & especially skipping then you may have a pin stuck or not OILING your machine right or not using thin enough machine oil.
Hi! My thread kept on breaking. It started when i used too big spool thread (it cannot fit on my vertical spool so i put it on a mug instead, as how pinterest would say it). But still, it keeps on breaking :( any suggestions about having too big spool thread on my spool? Thank u!
And sometimes there are idiots like me who’ve forgotten to put the bobbin in and am pulling my hair out wondering why the thread is suddenly breaking!!
Im crying when i keep trying and realise its not working still i cant breathe its so infuriating i cant breathe absolutely nothing is working. Like everything is fine untill 1 second later all of a sudden it breaks too fast to see how
The problem with my machine is that I broke all the needles that came with the machine and every other needle I've tried, breaks the thread after a couple stitches. I'm considering just getting a new machine. I've tried everything! Help!
Maybe it's because I'm so frustrated from sewing but this videos speed and the way she talks are making me wanna tear my hair out. I'm pretty sure 5 year old kids aren't watching this you don't have to speak in that voice for us.
