Thank you for doing this video. I'm a long time fan of both the original game and Extinction and have played them on and off for roughly 10 years. I stopped playing ages ago but this was a nice trip down memory lane. I can remember sinking so many hours into Extinction, not just in TDM but ESPECIALLY into GTTC (Get To The Chopper) mode. Primal Carnage as a whole was a good product for its time, being a dinosaur game that came out alongside others like Ark and some early access titles like The Isle. The biggest problems really lie with the fact that it's a small development team and clearly a lack of resources I feel. I really wish their other project "Primal Carnage: Genesis" had managed to take off but sadly it didn't. And what's mostly sad as well is that most of the active community are typically RP'ers which is why the Free Roam servers get the most outside of TDM. To the developers credit I will say that the Free Roam maps actually look great. That being said I don't hate Primal Carnage at all. These games and others like Depth gave me so much mileage out of them. I'd love to see other dinosaur-like games do similar to what they have done here (as in with being able to play as dinosaurs and either vs people or similar). But I do agree that this game still suffers from horrible balancing issues that have never been fixed which is not good at all from a development standpoint. That and the fact that community is quite small and hasn't really regrown to its former glory for years (much bigger population size years ago). That being said, this game will always have a place in my heart. At its core, it's a very fun human vs dinosaur shooter.
honestly I don't see why people would actively hate primal carnage. the most I think it would deserve is being neutral to it at east in my opinion, I feel it has similar amount of bugs and balance issues compared to other games in the asymmetric multiplayer shooters I've played and the communities nowhere near as bad as games like ark in my opinion. The game definitely needs some polish and game modes though.
Honestly that's pretty fair, from my experience, Depth has had bug issues, but not nearly as many as Primal Carnage, from what I've played anyway. I don't really play ARK, but as I said in the vid, I haven't heard great things either. Anyway, thanks for the level headed comment :)
I don’t necessarily hate the game but the decisions that the devs been making lately, also how such potential this game concept has but doesn’t go anywhere
As a rare aussie player who was an admin of the Emu Wars server (Sassy_matee was my old username). I used to play this back during 2019 days. When the game was "coming back from the dead" era when maps were coming out, we all thought this game was gonna have a good progress with updates and bring a new demograph in but we figured out around 2020 - 2021 days the skin spam was a show proof that the game is not making any progress.. that's when we decided to leave the game behind and from what I've seen from your vid, we predicted it right but i will say one benefit from this game is the friends i made from this game and we still hangout from time to time.. Good vid btw mikester
Yeah I have never understood why dinosaur game communities are so hostile/toxic at times. I really think its because its their favorite game and they will defend it to their last breathe, some people hate/dislike certain classes or types of playables so they show their frustration when dealing with players to use them. But when people be saying death threats in chat because I kill you as a raptor is just ridiculous. I'am part of the isle community and I dont understand how a lot of those people be so hostile so much. If a new dinosaur game comes out or is announced these psychos get so dang violent about it, if the game has a T-rex in it they would say its coping the isle. Your dinosaur can walk, coping the isle, eat/drink, has a bite attack, has scales/feathers, trying to rip off the isle. I will never understand the hate/toxicity.
Yeah just something I noticed, but it is ridiculous, and some of the things people say when they die or lose the game blows my mind lol. Or even mid match when nothing is really happening, people are getting angry at everyone and everything lol
To be honest dinosaur focused mexia have such toxic communities between path of titans, The Isle to the childish arguments of Tyrannosaurus rex vs Spinosaurus/ really any animal centered that once lived. The worst part is I can't begin to pinpoint where it comes from. I've rarely seen such vitriolic behavior in a community as much as the dinosaur community and all honestly it makes kinda sad.
Facts Mike. I personally love primal carnage despite all its defects and shitty bugs, but I get why you are moving on and why people generally don't like playing anymore. It's sad but well deserved considering how old the game is yet not getting bugs fixed that have been in the game for years.. Who knows, maybe somebody else will fix the game someday :P
Well said, it's definitely kind of sad in a way, cause like I said, I don't hate the game. I'll probably come back and check out the major updates but not for the channel, and outside of that, I doubt it
Bad updates and overall lack of developer input (and honestly, effort. Dinosauriac doesn't even know some of the game's key mechanics lol). It's still a fun game with a fun community.
I haven't been actively playing this game in years already, but every now and again, I do tune in. When I do, I see that the servers are more dead than ever, and the toxicity still is apparent. People just can't have fun, I guess.
Tbh i don’t really care, it’s a fun game and it’s one of my fav games, and if it’s fun it doesn’t change anything, and i think if we give them enough time it’ll be great after all!
i mostly hate extinction for its movements and gunplay, they feel horrible and glitchy, plus theres zero weight to the guns when firing, and tyrants dont feel huge and feels weak playing as them. the original primal carnage flows great with it's movement and gunplay, and the guns feel powerful, and the tyrants feel and play like proper tank classes. i know graphics dont make a game fun, but im a believer of balance, so both good gameplay and good graphics, extinction's graphics are saturated and cartoonish and not visually nice to look at, again compared to the original game that has more realistic looking graphics for it's time, yeah its kinda outdated now but the art direction for the maps looked great, even back then! btw, primal carnage extinction is using unreal engine 3, and playing the game on modern hardware it performances really bad even with a 4090! its not the devs fault though, its that unreal engine 3 isn't made for modern hardware, but i think its a bit crap the devs are stuck on unreal engine 3, should of made a sequel using unreal 4 or 5.
The dino and FPS communities are already pretty toxic, but I genuinely mean it when I say that the PC:E playerbase needs a MAJOR attitude adjustment. It's a shame too cuz it's a fun game at it's core but last time I played, everyone just couldn't stop talking shit just because :I
It's a shame that this game is struggling as much as it is. I like the idea of asymmetrical team based multiplayer game of humans vs dinosaurs. Primal carnage wasn't the first to come up with the idea but it sure as hell had the potential to perfect it.
I remember back when this game was released people were hating on it, I actually liked it and wanted to see the potential of what they'd do with it, but I stopped playing it back in 2017 or so since it got boring and tedious with no more content coming since I thought the game was dead then, and how Hunt was removed always bothered me since that's one of the gamemodes I really wanted to play.
Thank you for talking about this! I agree with you on everything. I used to play the game almost everyday, but as of Nov 2023 I have had no desire to play due to the things you have mentioned. The bugs, exploits, poor game balance, etc… just pushed me away. Besides all that, I do not hate the game, but in its current state, it is unfun for me imo. The game really, REALLY needs more new players, but I completely understand why a new player wouldn’t stay.
No problem. I'm pretty much on that same wave length lol. I used to play the game basically every day but then I kinda just started to realize the problems more and more, and that I wasn't having nearly as much fun as I used to with it. It made it easy to see why a new player would be turned off. Thanks for the input
@@A_Fat4l_err4r_H4s_occured There is that side to it definitely, but other more annoying bugs can be persistent and it goes from funny to annoying and disruptive pretty quickly
I play PC since 2013 version 1.0 out with the skin bundles at 2 euros. I fell in love with the chill and cool maps(i remember pc docks even now) and I have really fond memories regards. I just feel like Extinction came out in a wrong moment, PC 1 surely was too old and clunky but It was still pretty fun. In 8 years they added tons of skins, some weapon, reworked multiple times items with humans and added 2 new bruisers class. The new stuff looks cool and all but the game really is too old. Don't get me wrong I still jump in from time to time and have my 15 minutes of dinosaurs and guns fun but I always thought the technogy and budget behind were too low and too little. They even reworked human's animation and even if the community is pretty small I think everyone that sticks around can really have fun. It would be pretty cool to get a new PC maybe in UE5 and with more polished mechanics
Oh i wouldn't know, i discoverd this game through randomly looking on the store on ps4. You're right about the wierdos on freemode that literally have fucking dating session in the middle of combat and get mad because they are getting clapped.
I don’t hate the game honestly I more or less a bit upset at the devs immaturity. I was waiting for primal carnage evolution to come out and eventually it came out early one night, I thought the game had fully come out along so I bought it because the game I wishlisted said it was out. Turns out that PlayStation released the game early by accident so on their discord they essentially shamed anyone who bought it early and couldn’t fathom why anyone would by it despite the fact they didn’t put a release date for evolution. There was no empathy just getting shamed from devs.
@@dapperraptor8789 i'm very confused reading this, i don't recall anyone being shamed for accidentally purchasing the game. sony was even contacted to authorize refunds for those who got it accidentally, along with allowing anyone who did accidentally get it access to the closed beta channel etc.
Imo, free roam is just as weird as Deathmatch. I see people hopping in Deathmatch only to chat and ask the most rancid questions known to man, say the most disgusting things or all of the above. (as a new player who only bought the game to hang out with friends), I was extremely disgusted upon my first five games by the amount of weird questions i was asked by players. Not to say that ill stop playing, but the people who have been playing for a while freak me out.
Eh it's pretty close to being dead but not quite there. Usually there is a full server during the day, but at night things tend to slow down to a crawl, at least for me, and it's pretty much a ghost town. If ya REALLY like dinos I'm sure you'll get something out of it, otherwise pass
My opinions for this game are for sure more biased and I do accept that they most likely aren't the most objective, but, I still feel like alot of the critisism people share on PCE does not take in credit the game's age and the development team's size. I don't speak inherently about what you said, more like the general "why does the bug-fixing take such slow time", "why do they not add new classes/weapons/gamemodes/..." and especially "why do they keep pumping out so many cosmetics and not rather fix the game". Cosmetics are items done entirely by the community and help bring some slight income into the game's piggy bank, and while the price tags might seem high for some folks, not much actually goes to the Devs. Alot of stuff is actually community work, hell, even the bugfixing is highly reliant on what people report on Discord and whenever they join the regular bug testing. I'l give credit that some bugs and glitches been appearing for years and have not been fixed yet, and that the game has regular ballancing issues. But I wouldn't call it intentional ignoration of the game done in focus of pumping more money from selling the cosmetics, as some folks firmly believe. Gonna end my white knighting here, but, still feel like some people are too much harsh on the situation the game is finding itself in right now. Edit: just found out you are the dude behind the Primal development history video, cool vid!
I certainly see where you're coming from, however I would suggest that people are warranted in their frustration with the devs. Something I didn't mention in the video because quite frankly I didn't know about it, is screenshots that people took when suggesting things, and the main dev Dinosauriacs response is always something like "No" or "Shrug" with no explanation as to why it wouldn't work or what they could implement, just straight up disregard for what the few people left playing are thinking, so I would say that's pretty intentional. So I can certainly see why people would look at that and come to the conclusion that the devs don't care. Some people are too harsh but that's just the way the internet is. As for adding new stuff, I was never really too concerned with that outside of MAYBE a new human class, I was more wanting them to fix what was already there. Anyway, that's my input, thanks for the comment. Ah yes, glad you enjoyed the History video, was fun to make!
Atleast your reasoning is fair and solid, who cares what people think its good to put this logical information up for debate. If Sony can make it a better game, Steam will buy it and then what u gonna say when its got atleast 1000 players again Goodwork on the video seriously that shit takes time!
Yeah I'm not sure what the Playstation release will do for the game overall, time will tell I guess. Thanks man, it does take time, quite a lot of it xD
My opinion, I like the rest of the game except the bugs, but the thing I don't like as much are the glowing skins, I just seem to despise them for some reason if I see it in a dinosaur game.
I get that, I personally don't mind the glowing effect on the dinosaurs, but I think the Ultimate human skins they added that glow look really wierd lol
How I believe the game could be better fleshed out and acquire more positive attention is if they figured out moderations on the chats so there isn't the toxicity aura of the game. Also implementing more fleshed out gimmicks for a bit more variations in play styles (pointing more towards humans), including maps to go with it.
1.3 version of 2013 is still better, that's my biggest problem with extinction 1 - It was supposed to be a big update for the original game 2 - Became a "Primal Carnage 2" for whatever reason 3 - was and still is generally worse than 1.3 4 - feels like a mobile game converted into a console game and then converted into a pc one, gameplay wise 5 - still has a ton of bugs and performance issues 6 - role-playing/no killing matches killed the pvp 7 - devs only care for that dino money 8 - the community stinks ~ the only things I liked about extinction was more guns for humans and Ceratosaurus
9:23 the part that killed my enjoyment of pce is this the free roam community is weird like there's the players that go human and are a one man army there's the players that show off their skins and there's the worst players the nsfw players now these players are the reason i stopped playing pce. Also I'm a ps5 player this issue is present on ps5 aswell also i have no problem with the one man army players and the players the show off their skins im referring specifically to the nsfw players killing my enjoyment of this glitchy but great game
HEY I AM NOT TOXIC WHY PUT ME IN THIS VIDEO ONLY BE TOXIC WHEN SOMEONE ELSE IS BEING TOXIC TO ME OR MY FRIENDS BTW I Being Honest since I only be toxic to someone who being toxic to me and my friends btw also sorry for caps trying defend myself incase I get in trouble With Game Devs since I don't want be ban from any games I only defending me and my friends plus I spend so much money to this game And all the money i spend is My Mom money since I Don't have a Job btw and you Making me cry btw
@@thelastmikester games like actually ancient though i just think they were trying to have fun making cool dino skins and getting profit out of it. Take the seasons map for example with the underworld/space easter egg with the elevator music or the dilo clubhouse i just gotta feeling its somthing to have fun on especially if you got a dumbass friend group 😂
