How did you like the game? Was my criticism fair? What do you think about the game? I have to unfortunately admit, that the game has many flaws, not only on the technical side, but also within its game design. It's not a good game esp. at this price tag. There are simply much better games out there. Even with patches I don't see how this can be fixed without reworking big parts of the game =/

Re: in-air jumping control, you're spot on. Take jumping in a game like Oblivion. With all the systems in play like physics, weather, conditional effects, it lends the game a strong sim vibe where you'd expect non-magical environmental interaction to be pretty grounded and realistic - indeed as it is in Skyrim. Yet the totally bonkers moon physics of the game and the mad degree of control you get while in the air is just SO MUCH FUN! There is a childish glee to be had racing around these otherwise real-world looking environments like a total lunatic; bounding to rooftops from the ground and getting mental, death-defying air leaping from the top of steep, hilly roads (sooo many lovely, lovely hills in Oblivion). It's about as far from a platformer as you can get and still call yourself an action title, but there's a great deal of silly joy to be had just trampolining about the world. Basically movement and locomotion are fundamental to human psyche and well-being. Traversal needs to be intuitive, fulfilling and exciting, not realistic.

Yes good air control is important and adds to the fun, esp. in the platformer. Ofc You have some air control with Gollum, but it feels so clunky

I avoided this game since I felt that they couldn't make it interesting enough lore-wise and that they would probably make Gollum too nice and cute to appeal to the general audience. As a gamer I also feel pretty much done with "jumping puzzle" mechanics.

I was interested to watch your video... it's the first game video of any kind I've ever watched. But I think the biggest thing it taught me was that there probably exists no game of this kind that I could play for more than a few minutes without starting to chew off limbs in boredom. I guess they're just not my scene, which is valuable self-knowledge, painlessly learned. Thanks again Chris.

=/ unfortunate. I really love video games. Being able to control what happens is great. I love games that test my own abilities. The accomplishment you feel if you overcome your struggle with e.g. a boss, is really great. I remember situations where i was mentally and physically exhausted after defeating a tough boss 😂 But there are so many different games and genres out there, that are completely different. From interactive movies to Tetris. The Gollum game is unfortunately not a good example for what video games can do in 2023.

I never liked Gollum when I was a kid and still don't. I can appreciate what is being done but book 4 is always the one I dread reading in LotR. If this is so pedestrian mechanically I'll just skip it.

I'm so sick of these scummy game devs and their DLC!! It's BS, everything they have come up with for a game prior to the games release should _automatically be included in the base game_ regardless. Then after that any ideas they come up with should be the DLC. This shite where their cutting content and core game features out only so they can nickel and dime the players after we've already paid $50 to upwards of $70 for the game is disgusting and needs to stop immediately! But will only stop when dummies stop spending money on it. As far as this game goes I was never really interested in it bc I figured it would be what it is, a platforming and puzzles game with zero combat. Also I figured there wouldn't be any interesting lore or worse yet they would take liberties with the lore like the scums at Amazon did which I find more egregious.

the compendium DLC should be 100% in the base game. the Sindarin DLC seems to not have much of an impact. There is still Sindarin in the game even without it. it seems there are just a bunch of extra Sindarin lines

Why would I say this? 😅 I also said about Rings of Power that the show was flawed and I hated the last episode (esp. how they portrayed the Eregion plot) 😂 But yes the Gollum game really has many issues in its core game design. Hard to recommend =/

@@ThePhilosophersGames I don't think that is a fair take on your reviews for Rings of Power. I think that there are just too many people who are content to determine "I don't like this thing, so it's bad" and never think about it again. I really really loved your critical and thorough analysis of the show, and to this day watching the series is one of my favorite experiences despite the many flaws precisely because it led to awesome videos from you and from Corey Olsen! It could have been as bad as the Hobbit trilogy and I would have still enjoyed listening to your analysis!

@@M4TCH3SM4L0N3the Hobbit was a flawed piece of art, RoP was hideous milking of a known IP injected with modern politics. I really can't believe I'm hearing people find anything positive from it, but saying the Hobbit is worse is crazy to me.

@@ThePhilosophersGames TP games I really respect your level of knowledge of the lore of middle earth. this is why I was taken a back that you were not calling out the huge inaccuracies in the ROP show. the show was just fan fiction and complete rewrites of central events in the 2nd age. I hope in the 2nd season you can be more critical and look at it objectively at it now that the hype has dissipated.
