The players couldn't see the kings because fog of war. You see, their brains were permanently covered in fog, therefore everything was in fog of war.

So even if you are gold or whatever, dont you check this stuff out before the game? Ok so I'm old, dinosaur but when I played c&c, Red Alert etc. For we all checked up special things like killing the king gives you extra troops. Wow ❤❤❤
