I’ve always wondered how this Zelda, who created the unpleasant adult timeline by getting rid of Hyrule’s hero, made the stupid get-the-Triforce plan in the first place, AND revealed herself when she knew the importance of having a disguise, got the Triforce of Wisdom. Edit: Guys, it was kind of a joke. She’s only Hylian.
She made a choice as a child to do something when no one else would, dealt with the consequences when no one else could. Gave up on her safety to make sure link had what he needed to end everything once and for all, and then apologized for using him like a pawn by trying to make up for it in the best way she could. If you put someone through hell, and could give them a second chance to avoid it, why wouldn't you? Everything she did was to correct her first mistake, and while it doesn't work perfectly, I'm at a loss for what she could do better. But honestly interested in your thoughts.
Thing is, Sheik is capable of things Zelda can't do. Like jump up a tree. It's possible that Sheik isn't capable of granting Light Arrows if whatever allows Sheik's feats prevent Zelda feats
@@NatetheSensitivePlant I was mostly joking for the sake of the video. I understand why she made her choices, and know that she may not have had the information to comprehend what she was doing when she sent Link back. I’m glad to see that you’re not calling me an idiot, thank you.
Ganon had already killed the Deku Tree at that point, and planned to take over Hyrule, with or without Triforce. Her only mistake was thinking Ganon would ignore a small child in the path.
Yup, and for those wondering why Ganondorf never figured it out, it was because the transformation is magic based. She had red eyes and much darker skin
Also, Link just vanished. Someone had to help the people and lead the resistance against Ganondorf, and she didn’t know if or when Link would come back. After he came back, there’s no point in her being Sheik anymore, the prophesied Hero has returned.
@@Joe_334 Yeah.... but for like just one game with a high Possibility Nintendo creates new races and dumps them inmediately after they played their role, they did it after Wind Waker was released
This was explained in the manga, funny enough. Zelda knew it would be extremely dangerous to even survive in Hyrule as Zelda, let alone try to do anything to stop Ganondorf. So she talked to Raru about it, and she thought it best to act as one of Ganondorf’s minions under the guise of Shiek. Raru said it would still be dangerous, but hiding under Ganondorf’s nose was smart as hell. That’s slightly different than the actual game, because I don’t think Shiek is considered one of Ganondorf’s minions. I don’t remember, it’s been a while since I’ve played that game. Regardless, the baseline is that Zelda wanted to hide from Ganondorf, and turning into Shiek was the best solution.
The thing that surprised me more than the character reveal was that sheik was supposed to be seen as male. We see impa. Having sheik as a strong female character meant more to me growing up and i was an adult before i realized my mistake
@@sdw-hv5koAgreed. Also acting as a male Sheikah was probably why her disguise was so effective, as had Sheik been female then Ganondorf might have suspected her of being Zelda in disguise!
Even when I played the game blind all those years back, I knew Sheik was not in any way pretending to be a guy. She still looked feminine. Especially in the eyes. Crazy how much detail the five polygons that made up these faces could put into they eyes. I also reached a point where I was like, "huh. So where is that zelda chick in all of this...oh okay she's sheik ain't she?" I think Impa is the giveaway for both. In fact, at the time, I thought all Sheika were female just like the Gerudo.
Sheik was functionally a guy for the sake of disguise. Initially I thought he was a girl until I got to see adult Ruto who called sheik a "he". I rolled with it until the reveal. From a story perspective I will always call sheik a guy despite it being zelda in disguise. Same goes for Ping despite it being Mulan in disguise. It's also not a gender identity no matter how much the weirdos want it to be.
Am I the only one that thought Sheik was a girl all along? The eyes, the braided ponytail, and the slender frame. I didn't put it together that Sheik was Zelda, but I knew she was a girl.
I thought so too 😅 But my brother in law said she was pretending to be a boy and I was confused. I recently played the game and I was shocked to realize that it was in game because Princess Ruto refers to Sheik as “he” when we meet her in the water temple.
I remember the reveal of Sheik's identity was a huge deal that people REFUSED to spoil. Even strategy guides refused to spoil it. I played the game a few months after release, so my friends played it before I did. They kept telling me "you'll never guess who Sheik is!" And I was like "it's Zelda; right?" And they were like "no! You're crazy!" So I racked my brain and the only orher ideas I could think of were Impa (who got eliminated because she was a Sage) or, in a wild shot in the dark, Link's mom or sister. So I play the game get to the reveal and it's Zelda. And I'm just "OK how is this an Earth shattering surprise? It HAD to be her." Why did everyone feel the need to lie to me to protect an obvious and easily guessable secret? I could have found that out online but decided not to seek it out because I was told it was a huge shock. I could have had the Zelda twist completely spoiled for me and it wouldn't have changed anything.
that was also my first thought until i saw a comment in this comment section saying that sheik can do things zelda can't, so maybe the opposite is also true. maybe sheik couldn't have made light arrows when it was necessary or use the divine powers of zelda or sumn like that
@@EEEEEEE-g4p Well probably more importantly, Zelda felt that Link would not use Light Arrows from Sheik. Or the fact that Sheik could give Link the Light Arrows would give away her disguise - it would explain how Ganondorf is able to find her immediately afterwards, despite Zelda revealing herself a few seconds before giving him the Light Arrows; Sheik or Zelda, whoever gave him the Light Arrows, would've been captured by Ganondorf.
Link himself is Zelda's biggest flaw. She has WAY too much emphasis on the Hero of Time and not realizing the consequences of her actions until its too late, even in the ending.
What nobody talks about (that I find funny/sad) is that even if ganondorf didn’t touch it, even if link wasn’t too young and was sealed in the spirit relm, and EVEN if he HAD touched it… it STILL would have split apart because he neither had wisdom or power. I want to see that game.
I want a zelda game where zelda, link, and Ganon all absorb every bit of knowledge and experience from every timeline that we know of. Ending the cycle, but also starting over
If I had a nickel for everytime Zelda had darker skin for a disguise and got whitewashed when revealed to be the princess I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice Edit: For those who don’t understand the joke, I’m referring to OoT Zelda and Windwaker Zelda. It’s way, way more noticeable in windwaker.
Love how Zelda managed to pull off a male persona as "Sheik" which is contributed by her being a tomboy as stated by the sheika stone outside Hyrule castle.
If someone hasn't played the game, you just spilled the biggest spoiler and ruined it for them. If they have played the game, none of this is new information.
I must be in the minority, because I don’t remember being fooled about the Zelda in disguise plot twist. I kind of remember always thinking that sheik was Zelda.
It’s interesting how this is the only version of sheiks thats male and the 3d version helps show that form of a male body but a interesting plot twist nonetheless 😢❤
If i recall correctly, the name "Sheik" was taken from the Sheikah tribe, which Impa is from. Impa is Zelda's loyal retainer, and she took Zelda from Ganondorf before he could capture her. During the time Link was asleep, Impa trained Zelda the way of the Sheikah and Zelda used her magic to assume the secret identity of Sheik to aid Link on his journey.
I loved sheik. Such a cool design and mysterious and seemingly quite capable. We know zelda has been training quite a bit with impa and even was capable of saving princess ruto from the freezing of zoras domain. Just a shame she like immediately gets captured when revealed to be Zelda. It’s also not hidden too well from the player given how Zelda’s Lullaby plays whenever Sheik is on screen lol. In the future I would LOVE a zelda game that’s like all about sheikah culture. Like we know that the sheikah have a long history serving the royal family, stemming all the way back to skyward sword where they originally served the goddess hylia. We know they’re history can be dark and bloody like with how they were not only guardians of the royal family but their enforcers who imprisoned and tortured enemies of the royal family as established in ocarina of time. And how they fought in wars seen in twilight princess and breath of the wild; and in twilight Princess many were wiped out and others simply went away from their land. We know there were defectors who resented serving the royal family. We know they had advanced technology (although I’d be less interested in seeing stuff as techy as BotW and totk again as that was way too much imo) and that they had mythical powers. Imagine a game where link was raised by the sheikah. We often see link as an orphan or just with some unexplained background (with a few exceptions of course). Imagine where he was raised by the sheikah. Learns some of their techniques. Learns of their culture and the legends passed down among them. That’d be sick. Wow I went off on a tangent.
To be fair to Zelda, her plan made sense to her as she didn't know about the Master Sword, only the Door of Time & how to open it! It's suggested he father knew as she was known to have prophetic dreams which is probably why he didn't take her warnings about Ganondorf seriously as he knew only the Chosen Hero could remove the Master Sword and someone like Ganondorf, the Gerudo King of Thieves would likely be unworthy! Zelda grows up to realize her mistake! If anything she was naive which makes sense as despite having wisdom beyond her years, she lacked maturity & thus made an ill advised plan to stop Ganondorf with the young Hero of Time which was also ignorant of the danger! Also Ganondorf was a Master manipulator who fooled both Zelda & Link into gathering the keys needed to open the Door of Time & tricked the Hero into removing the one barrier he could never truly bypass without the Hero, the Blade of Evil's Bane, The Master Sword! I personally love the story as it is a subversion of classic tropes regarding heroic destiny as the Hero of Time and Zelda inadvertently aid Ganondorf in achieving his goals when up to that point its easy for the player to assume they as Young Link are heroically thwarting his plans only to discover they were being manipulated & they end up imprisoning themselves for seven years by removing the Master Sword cause they were too young to wield it!
When I was a kid my mom got to play OoT first and my job was to read the guide to her. I will never forget (and not cringe) at the moment I decided to page ahead, saw that sheik was zelda and told her.
As a kid, I thought it was a dude then found out it was a dudette. Then along the way, maybe it could be Impa in disguise, then BAM, they gave me a huge turnaround when I was looking for Zelda, she was already looking for me.
I remember playing it for the first time. My brother had told me Sheik was a guy. When she was revealed to be Zelda, I was like “YOU TOLD ME IT WAS A DUDE”
I can't remember the channels name, but there's a guy who breaks down music, and he did zelda music. Sheiks theme song actually hints at Sheik being Zelda. There's a moment in sheiks theme where it's just Zeldas lullaby sped up a bit. My best friend and I never noticed it at least so thought it would be fun to share here lol.
I wouldnt call it a twist. It was to "out of nowhere" to be one. We knew nothing about Shiek and only met him/her s few times, where he/she made kinda cryptic warnings or tips.
This was actualy explained in the manga ocarina of time years ago just that there the additional info was added that shiek was a subbordinate of ganondorf making zelda hide in his ranks being under a hypnosis of imoa making her unable to remember who she is until the time for it has come
In defense of princess zelda, it is stated in the game that she tried to tell her father but her father wouldn't believe her about ganondorf's evil intentions so she didn't really have any other adult to talk to, particularly an adult who could do something about ganondorf, so she had to confide in a boy that was the answer to her dream. She's doing the best she can and ultimately it was her father who let the kingdom fall into this disaster not her.
I think the plot twist only broke the minds of people playing the game like, the very first week after it was released. I grew up playing this game in the 2000's, and by that point I just remember it being a well-known fact.
It was pretty obvious to my sister and I back when. The character model had boobies we thought so we at least thought it was a girl and the harp music was kinda feminine to us as kids too so my sister always thought it was a girl like impa but obviously younger so we thought Zelda
I love how most ppl decide to try to explain this game. I've been playing this game since I was literally 4 years old. But I guess we have to explain it to everyone rather than them playing it themselves. It's a great game and thanks for spoilers alerts for those that have never played
As i got older, i wondered if she developed a split personality. Unlike link, she had to live through those seven years. We don't know how long impa had been alive - assuming she was up until we beat the water temple - but if she had been gone since we woke up or even before, sheik's existence makes sense. Incidently impa of is the only known sheikah, and the only one with white hair. Skyward sword also has blonde (potential) sheikahs minus maybe zelda's father and one of the teachers. Impa in that game doesn't have the white hair either, meaning at one point they didn't always have the signiture white hair/red eyes. Given ss ended up being the only direct reference in oot and zelda/sheik dynamic, its possible zelda is part sheikah.
I always envisioned and wanted to know a side story where Impa trains Zelda in the Sheikah ways and how she was accepted as one of the clan. I always liked training arcs. But yeah, she should've never revealed herself.
I was in maybe second grade and I’m not kidding I got there before a good friend through elementary, and he swore to me that it couldn’t be true.. this was still the time of crazy school yard rumors and the internet was around and mostly just fueled the flames. But gamefaqs had some crazy level of detail guides and still does… obviously we all clips and play throughs but it’s nice sometimes to slams the guide up to one side read the thing while you’re right there because it’s significantly faster than watching it.
I think when my favorite ginger Pinocchio tried to go to second base with the tri force he touched the tri force of wisdom, corrupting it and making the next person to wield it not truly have its power. I mean why else would Zelda be dog poopoo terrible at making plans
I prefer how Sheik looked in the N64 original which was like a man. In the 3DS remake, one of the few things I disliked in an otherwise stellar remake is that they totally changed Sheik to obviously be Zelda in disguise. They lightened his skin, gave him a female chest and hope and a very feminine stance. The only clue Sheik wasn’t a man in the N64 original is when he’s thrown by Bongo Bongo and makes the Gerudo sound when he hits the ground, hinting he’s a woman.
I agree. And even then with Shiek’s voice it still doesn’t sound like Zelda. She sounds a lot higher when you hear her while escaping from Ganondorf’s castle/fighting Ganon
So what’s crazy is that in some instances of this story it is implied that sheik is actually an alter ego of Zelda. This can mean a few things in the context of how stories use alter egos. Sheik is actually a male counterpart, meaning that Zelda literally turns into a man when she takes on this disguise. I’m not sure how correct this information is because it’s been a while since I looked into this as a story. But true or not, in a lot of ways it’s entirely possible. Zelda has magic, she could easily become a whole different gender any time she wants.
