In this episode of Catholic Answers Live (Feb. 23, 2017, 2nd hour), Jimmy answers the following questions:
* My wife divorced me, how do I get an annulment?
* Why do we never hear about the Apostles children?
* What’s the Catholic teaching on predestination?
* What is the Douay-Rheims Bible and is it a valid translation?
* When I explain the Immaculate Conception to my Protestant family, I get to the point where I say “It is fitting that Mary was Immaculate Conception” and my family says, “Well, it might be fitting, but that doesn’t mean it is so.” How can I explain this better?
* If you’ve had spiritual experiences, how do you explain them? I’ve seen things that are hard to explain.
* How do I correct the false teachings of my RCIA director?
Are the miracles of Medjugorje valid?
* I invited two Mormons to breakfast tomorrow, how should I steer the conversation?

Interesting traditional facts: 1. St Peter was married and had a daughter. He was younger brother of Andrews and was like 26 years old when Jesus called him. Later Mark became like a son to Peter and Petronila stayed mostly away from her dad with relatives. 2. John was very young, maybe 17 years old when he received the call and the youngest of the Apostles. He was erratic and had infantile behavior along with his older brother James. He was an athlete , in good physical shape and ran fast. He died of old age at the beginning of the second century. John was single and might not have his own house. He took Mary to his parent's house Salome and Zebedee. The whole scene is just a symbol of John being the disciple who takes Mary home. Joseph might have had a rented house because Jesus gave His Mother to John. Salome was Mary's younger sister making John Jesus younger cousin. Salome moved closer to her older sister after Joseph died to be close to her and her nephew. 3. James the Elder was the oldest of the Apostles(40 years old) and older brother of Jude and Joseph and older cousin of Jesus. James was 50 when he led the Council of Jerusalem as Bishop in 40 AD. 50 was generally the age to lead congregations and have some authority. That is why the Jews were jealous of Jesus who was just 30 and talking with authority. 4. Claudia the wife of Pilate was seeing visions of Jesus and is now believed she started to follow him in secret. Pilate thought she was just superstitious and was more scared of his wife's dreams than of Jesus being innocent. Some tradition says that both Claudia and Pontius became secret Christians. 5. Mary Magdalene was not precisely a prostitute. She was using her good looks to have influence with rich men. She was like 30 years old when Jesus saved her from all her demons, especially the demon of lust. 6. Mary the Mother of Jesus was at least 15 years old when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to her. She was not 12. She was not the submissive , quiet, poor young woman portrayed in movies and portraits. She was intelligent, inquisitive, mature and versed in the Scriptures. The personality of Mary is shown when she starts to talk and ask questions to the Archangel after the initial scare. God did not send just any angel to her. Gabriel is one of the 7 Archangels and must have appeared like an strong soldier of God with armor not like a simple man in a tunic like some movies portray him. Gabriel, unlike with Zachariah, shows reverence and empathy to Mary. Mary asks him about this holy conception deal and after she is satisfied with the answers she says YES! It was a real proposal! Mary's strong personality and mother kindness is shown in Cana when she made Jesus perform a miracle for that poor groom.

Unless the colors on my computer screen are distorted, the color of Jimmy's shirt is maroon or magenta or rusty red or reddish brown. It is NOT purple.

"Magic Mushrooms," hahaha. Never thought I'd hear Jimmy say that Interesting story that lady told. We should always have precaution about these kind of events, but if it should be a miracle by the hand of God, it would only increase my faith in the Lord!

Why is the question never, "My spouse divorced me, how do I carry my cross and stay faithful to my vows?"

Actually, that question gets asked a lot more than you might think. I know many people who have had to wrestle with it.

@@JimmyAkin I have a follow-up question, Jimmy! Why do you pronounce the silent H's in words like "Why" and "Which"? Is this a Texan thing, a Southern California thing, or just a Jimmy thing?

@@billyhw5492 The pronunciation of has varied across time and dialect in English. @@floridaman318 huhh, it was a long time ago but i think i thought something about the Armenian church tradition that priests' sons are normally also priests. so they practically have a "priest tribe".

While three of the apostles were married, only two of them had children. Peter's wife was sterile. Nathaniel and Philip had daughters only, no sons. In those days, females were not held high esteem in the society in general and would go on to mother children. They were regarded somewhat as non entities. However, with Jesus this changed. A number of the daughters and also wives became women disciples which eventually led to the formation of religious orders. These would assist male disciples and apostles in their ministries. I must point out that when a husband began to follow Jesus, they agreed to sever intimate relations with their wives. Most women chose to imitate their husbands by becoming women disciples. Jesus demanded this of His male disciples, that they could not serve Him and woman.

George Pierson, hello! I am an advocat of Maria Valtorta's 'Poem of the Man-God'. In 2006, I met Bishop Roman Danylak in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Bishop Danylak was of the Eastern Rite, in full communion with Rome. Sadly, he passed away recently. He gave the 'work' his personal imprimatur. He got me interested in it. When I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. Every day I looked forward to reading Maria's revelations. I read the entire five volumes seven times. I also was inspired to record the entire work on MP3. I am presently making videos on each chapter in the life of Jesus and Mary. There are some 740 chapters. I am presently working on chapter 180, which deals with the Parable of the Darnel. If you would like to visit my RU-vid site. It is DGarryL. In Nomine Domini, may the peace of the Lord be with you.

T.J., I'm not a Protestant lackey. Individual verses standing by themselves carry no weight. In the Catholic Church there are these three pillars of faith which carry equal weight: First and foremost is Tradition; second is the Holy Spirit acting through the Magisterium of the Church; lastly but not least is Scripture. As for the three Apostles that were already married before they met Jesus, Simon Peter, Bartholomew and Philip, Simon's wife was sterile(could not have children), Bartholomew and Philip had girls. They were accepted into Jesus' circle on condition that they forgo intimate relations with their wives, and also their wives had to agree to this. The wives themselves became the women disciples who served all of Jesus' followers when called upon to. These were the forerunners of women's orders that became very much part of the Catholic Church.
