Why DON'T We Work on ONE Room at a Time?!

MAKE. DO. GROW.

In this video we start work on the new bathroom plumbing, running hot and cold water feeds up from the plant room, through the lounge ceiling and up through the concrete floor into the bathroom above.
With a few obstacles to work around and a mid-way undo, redo, we always thought this project was going to be a challenge. But by the end of this episode we're one step closer to a functioning, indoor bathroom in our stone house in Portugal.

Interdependencies... OMG... We feel your pain completely. Yesterday we decided to move one wardrobe in our Italian reno project. Sounds simple? We now need to move a security alarm system as well as three other fixed pieces of furniture, purchase new wall paneling and a desk... a 5 minute job just became 5 months! Thanks again for sharing your journey, watching your vlogs has become a Saturday morning ritual in our home. We hope that refreshing beverage was sweet! Maria e Rowan

Having a complete plan for the house, at least in your minds, is important when it comes to utilities. Wiring can be somewhat forgiving, but with plumbing you need to know where the fixtures are going to be. Especially the drains, since water stubbornly insists on flowing downhill!

People don't realize one thing in building leads to another finishing and so on. It just takes smarts and time in order to get it correct. You both did a wonderful job on the pipes and drilling the holes. Rebar is a necessary item in the house although it can cause a headache in the way. You do you and let the rest wonder what will take place. If the just watch you then they should catch on.

Watch out for a big mistake that took place in my parent‘s house: the plumbing was done like in your Little downstairs cabinet next to the loo. No Isolation for the cold water! Where do you think condensation will take place (especially in warm days, which you will have plenty) at the coldest point. The condesation droplets in my parent‘s House Fell on a joist, which was rotten After 5 years, when the liability of the Architekt was over. Came out fairly expensive. Like your channel a lot - happy easter

Most people haven't seen a house constructed from the beginning, which is why the finishes always go to the very last with new houses. Your house is definitely not a new build, and the mishmash of flooring has complicated things. Amazing thinking to just get the bits you have done whilst dealing with the new piping material and a very old stone/cement build. Length isn't always that important, it's skill with what you do have. 😝😝

Yea, I've had to make friends with "reverrse thinking". Doesn't matter how badly I just want to FINISH one part of the process, I have to go thru the gotta do this before I do that and on and on. Future me is so happy I'm having much less to take out and redo because I thought it thru. Current me? Not so much. Definitely an exercise in patience. Patience is a muscle I'm struggling to build up. You are both so inspiring to those of us doing the same kind of thing.

The planning, then replanning when you realise you missed one piece of the puzzle … it’s never ending and definitely patience building. Our hope is that one day (and I really hope that day comes soon) all the pieces line up and we can smash through finishing things. Perhaps that’s more of a dream than reality though 😂

I suspect most contractors would have simply cut one of the rebar’s in the floor slab, figuring that “redundancy” in the floor slab would be sufficient and it would be structurally alright. What you did, to slide the toilet waste pipe over to fit between the rebar, is best. As far as a minimum distance from the toilet to the wall, here in the States, that would be 15 inches minimum by code (or about 38cm) measured from toilet centerline to the wall. I’m 6’4” (193cm) tall, and about 18 inches ( 46cm) is the minimum for me. We have one toilet at 18 inches and I do bang my elbows into the wall on occasion.
