@@OriginalPuro humor is subjective. Maybe this person does giggle every time they see John Cleese. Old man, please stop assuming your experiences are universal.
John Cleese is a comic genius. Bernard Cribbins is a very funny talented man also. Good actor. I love the old British comedy. Glad I was born in 63 👍🇬🇧😊
I wasn't born till 77 bit I had a father with good taste hence fawlty towers is one of my all time favourites, an Connie booth was so hot especially in the wedding party episode, you all now which scenes lol
Genius. Thanks found Fawlty Towers through Blockbuster Video 1988. I fell in love with the brilliant timing, writing, ensemble chaos of running a hotel. To paraphrase Sybil, scolding Basil, you're either crawling all over them licking their boots, or spitting poison at them (guests).😂
Loved the guy, his appearances on jackanory, his part in the railway children plus his many voice overs. Bernard was a big part of my childhood and I remember him fondly for it.
As a retail consumer, I would love to patreon your establishment, as it's darn near impossible to encounter a retail worker capable of capturing the intricacies of the inquiries brought forward by the discerning consumer in the way displayed here by Basil Fawlty. [Disclaimer: non native English speaker, who possibly had a glass of wine]
Totally agree. The only comedy that comes close is the Blackadder series. Only fools and horses keeps getting voted as the best British comedy, but it isn't a patch on either of these.
Two brilliant men. If it wasn't for the brilliant satirical comedians they were and are, you would think that John could perfectly play the "bloke in the bowler hat." "Don't dig there, dig it elsewhere, you're digging it round and it ought to be square. The shape of it's wrong, it's much too long and you can't dig a hole where a hole don't belong." - "Hole in the Ground - Bernard Cribbins.
All of Fawlty Towers is marvellous but this scene and that episode The Hotel Inspectors is truly exceptional and one of the funniest comedy episodes of all time. Bernard Cribbins and John are at the very peak of their game here, absolutely fantastic.
saw this for the first time a couple weeks ago and I couldn't believe how funny was how lucky if you were to have people ever able to write this stuff an absolute pleasure to see you again
I got to see him on stage a couple of weeks ago. He spent some of that time being as politically incorrect as one could be... it was hysterical and much like Basil Fawlty.
This was before I was born, but watched re runs with my Dad. And loved it, I never understood why they stopped at 3 seasons. I get some sitcoms can only run so long, when based around just one area. But sure they'd have came up with more, or specials. And been popular.
There was not a single episode of Faulty Towers that could be described as average, or a filler. That's more than can be said for a lot of tv shows now. Lovely to see the late Bernard Cribbens in this scene too, giving us two comedy legends for the price of one.
Life’s too weird and complex and society too much of a huge mess to even begin writing a comedy about these days. It’s what we wanted…. Remember we never saw a flashy plastic gizmo that we didn’t like so deal with the consequences. Also I’m tired of everyone dumping on young people all the time. Don’t forget young people now were raised by……….oh that’s right old people. To anyone that doesn’t like them maybe blame the people that raised them?
And on top of that … 1. There have actually never been so many well-written shows and so many sources for them as there are now. You simply have to look for them instead of relying on the three networks and PBS. 2. There was a huge amount of crap on tv ALWAYS. (Cf Newton Minow “Vast Wasteland” speech.) Nobody’s posting episodes of “Hello Larry” or “Joanie Loves Chachi” for a reason.
Long gone are the days of ‘Televisual Feasts’. Lucky I could enjoy them. This was one of the best. Bernard Cribbins was great - also in children’s TV ‘feasts’.
The horrible thing about Basil is that he is based on a real hotel owner somewhere in the South of England. You do, unfortunately, also occasionally come across people like the one played here so masterfully by Bernard Cribbins.
Correct. The "Gleneagles Hotel" in Torquay. It now has a recently constructed retirement home built on the site, called "Sachs Court" after Andrew Sachs, who, of course, played Manuel.
Classic Fawlty Towers, one of the best comic tv programs made, when we could say what we wanted on our tv screens without modern day snowflake’s having a moan and complaining because what was said of shown would hurt their precious life’s . Bring those days back now
