I have the same issue with digital / cd music. You can buy a album for just a dollar or two more then digitally, how does that make any sort of sense? No wonder digitally everyone only uses subscriptions

@@LittleLulubeeaccount sharing but not over 5/6 people depending on the platforms. And to be able to share it’s that many people, you have to pay for the biggest account which means a lot of money monthly. And it’s just sharing. You can’t resell it.

You are taking discounts into the equation. Kindle books also go on sale occasionally, just not as often due to the reasons stated on the video. Generally I find Kindle books or even Play store books cheaper than paperbacks. @@guilhermemartinez7572

America has an RRP, but they dont have to sell it at that cost, they can charge more if demand is high or charge less if demand is low. are you saying in France they dont discount things if it doesnt sell?

@@Millylerks I was curious about the specifics so I looked it up. In the first 9 months of publication no discounts are allowed and the book has the same price everywhere in france. After that some discounts are allowed depending on how long ago the pook was published (for example a book less then a year old can't have more than 20% off).

@@macieja92 maybe visit a French hospital or university which all people can visit without going bankrupt or get shot and you see how developed they are.

I collect manga and I would love a download code for a digital copy, considering the paper quality is usually little better than newsprint and these books won’t last forever no matter how well you take care of them. If the books have to be sealed to protect the code though, that would worsen the experience as I like to flip through the book before buying it. Lots of people would probably open the wrapping to steal the code as well, so even though I like the idea In theory, I have no idea how it should actually be implemented in a way that benefits the customer. Maybe a code on the receipt that you enter on a website or something?

How exactly would that work? Books aren't sealed like movie cases are. A person would be able to go into the store and steal the codes.

It would be very easy for book stores (at least the larger ones) to include a download code on the receipt, emailed to the customer, or, if the book store has one, automatically add the ebook to the customers account with their ebook service.

It's the same with retailing everywhere. In Mexico doesn't exist such law but big publishers have a "fixed" minimum pricetag which every bookstore follows for some months. After some months the bookstores are free to break the prices, the time varies depending of the expected sales. If a small bookstore goes funky with the price the publisher just won't deliver their next big title I'm sure is the same way in USA, if a shitty autobiography isn't selling in the first month, why not trim the price??? In Spain i think they have the same european bourocratic nonesense tho, some new titles are earlier available in Spain and we have to wait like 6 or 9 months because Mexico or Argentina can break the pricetags in Spain.

It helps making sure people will just buy from Amazon, I had a 4 euro price difference the other day between buying a paperback at a store or getting it delivered to my door. This is specially worse if you want books in english since a lot of physical stores don't even have more than a laughable range of books in english.

Not in my experience. iBooks and Kindle ebooks have been price matched for some time. I find it easier to find book sale prices in the genres I read from the iBooks Store, then I jump over to Amazon store to buy it in kindle format, and perhaps the audible as well.

you can't buy a book on your kindle, you pay for it, but you don't buy it. In the terms of conditions of amazon it's even written, that you don't own the digital copy of the book, you only buy the right to use it. If amazon takes it offline and your kindle is in the wi-fi and updates - your book could've be gone even if you paid for it

But more and more often they are not much cheaper. Sometimes there are just a couple of Euros of difference, which IMHO don't compensate the fact of not having a physical object (that you can lend or re-sell as you wish)

It was actually the book publishers who came up with the plan to raise prices, Apple just helped them put it in motion. Also, why would they not get away with putting charges in the box? It's their products. They can include whatever they want. 😂

Apple of course wouldn't take a single step in a direction which won't make them a quick buck. Hence, they provided a platform to publishers so that they can raise prices, and Apple can end Amazon's monopoly and earn commission without having to compete. They had to pay a penalty but the shitty pricing model continues till date. Such publishers didn't fight the full legal battle and backed off. Apple continued to assert they didn't do anything wrong. But eventually they were declared wrong by the justice system. Please do read the 2013 article from The Guardian reg the same. 2. Apple did away with chargers and are selling them separately just to make more money. They were the first major company to introduce this. I know its their business strategy and they can do whatever they want. But no company other than Apple has the audacity to make such a move. Apple decides the way consumer market moves forward. Whatever they do will eventually get copied by companies like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo. Eventually Samsung copied the same next year onwards. Please don't tell me you buy the environment-friendly argument of Apple. Eventually, 3. Insanely high prices for RAM and Storage upgrades in iPhones, iPads and Macs. They showed other companies, people are foolish enough and will still be a loyal customer regardless of charging 300% more for the same thing. 4. The MFi program. They certainly didn't inspire other companies with this, but they stuck to lightning port to earn as much as possible until EU forced them to adopt USB C. Well, the end user ends up paying upto 25% more just because Apple charges money for certification of flash drives, cables and other lightning accessories. I hope I was technical enough in putting forward my argument which is not solely based on feelings but rather rests upon concrete facts 🙂

The best example is how hard Apple pushed planned obsolescence by making it nearly impossible to fix the device yourself. Now nearly every device is glued shut and you have to go to a technician to get a battery replaced instead of popping the back off yourself and putting a new one in. Absolute joke.

Apple doesn't have licenses to the books. Publishers themselves sell them through Apple. If a book disappears, it's not because Apple "lost" the license to sell it, it's because the publisher removed it. It's like that with all digital distributors. If a publisher decides to pull something from being sold, the distributor has to comply. How is that ripping you off?

Because I paid for it... DUH. And as for your argument that's effectively the same thing as loosing the license. In any case I choose not to buy from online sources anymore. I prefer to hold the books movies etc in hand. Potential problem solved. @@DavidKen878

You are right, and this should be also reflected in a difference in price... If you don't actually "buy" an ebook (and can't re-sell it or lend it, or whatever) it should have a *much lower* price than the printed version (especially as there are no paper, printing process, transport, ecc. involved)... But more and more often I see eBooks that have practically the same price of the paperback, the difference is so small that doesn't compensate for the limits of eBook. When it happens, I buy the paperback..

Btw, I would advise using a vpn, as in some countries, you could pay a fine for piracy.

Yes, pirate Movies, TV Shows, Music, Books, Video Games, Software. If something is good enough to be worth watching, it will be worth the several months' wait to watch it on your favorite Local Media Server with every aspect of it controlled. We don't even need to give the time to useless crap, you know something is bad if no one wants to pirate it. Your personal server has only the content you care about watching, or if you are a data hoarder, it might just have everything and more :)

All digital stores sell ebooks in EPUB format. That's literally the standard now.

Careful about physical media though, I've seen game companies selling discs which are only some sort of passcode to allow them to download the game from the console's store, an absolute joke of a system.

Yeah, they should charge a fair price. 10-20% profit is enough to sustain a livelihood. Maybe even 5% and the government takes care of the poor and what not. There is this thing called MMT as well, just corruption everywhere- they don’t want us wealthy, monopolising it all for themselves!!!!

European countries have a ton more regulation and protections. America allows businesses to get away with petty things like this. Compare American GDP to any other country and it makes sense the heavy focus on America.

Sony said in Page 23 of their EULA that their definition of “purchase” means owning the license to temporarily access that content for as long as it’s available, not that you own it. If you paid for that content you had to sign and agree to that EULA It’s shitty obviously but what they did isn’t illegal. Apple meanwhile has no such clause in their EULA so it’d be illegal to take away your books or apps once they’re delisted.
