Also letting the majority of the people die so we can go into Mars is a really stupid idea. After all where will he get child laborers to mine cobalt for him? Even then once Elon gets to mars, I doubt you personally will be up there.

The man isn't just a genius but he is a genius with heart. He does what he does for all mankind. Who gives away the patents for his leading edge electric cars even to competing car makers? He wants everyone to benefit from his technology even at his expense. The way he sees it, the rising tide raises all boats. The irony is, the blessings have come back to him a billion fold! May he continue that we may all rise with the tide his vision and technology creates for all of America and indeed, for all of humanity!

But its ironic to point this issue as you or me, we type this very criticism from phones, laptops, tabs while using other gadgets along in our everyday life which all uses cobalt. GM and Ford spend $2B per year to tell customers to buy their cars and the ad budget costs telling them to buy their cars. Tesla spends $0 on advertising and so Tesla customers pay nothing on top of the car’s cost for ads. Elon uses Twitter to keep Tesla in people’s minds, to have fun banter with the Twitter goofballs, and likely as an expressive outlet given the serious other jobs that he has. Old advertising is dead…Elon and Twitter has disrupted that industry as well.

Have to take issue with you when you say that he was due to sell 10% of his shares anyway to pay tax due. He would have had to sell some shares but not nearly as much. In addition he sold his base shares which maximises the amount of tax he has to pay.

He more likely means, he who has control over memetic content, controls the perception of humanity's existence.
