Why Emperor Vader would be WAY Worse Than Palpatine - Star Wars Explained

Anakin at full potential would have been like Vitiate on steroids. Who needs a Death Star when you can just evaporate all life on a planet with the Force alone? Emperor Vader would have become an immortal Force god no doubt.

Being a warrior I think Vader would be a conqueror if he had control. Crushing and taking anything and everything in his way.

Vader was already planning on killing sidious before his injury’s , in the revenge of the Sith game , if you play as anakin in the final mission , you unlock a ending where anakin kills both obi wan and sidious .

I doubt the Empire would have been worse under Vader. Why? Well, he wouldn't have the literal Devil constantly whispering dark thoughts into his mind, toying with him, manipulating him, keeping him in a state of perpetual self hatred and anxiety. Vader soon found out in the original timeline that Sidious would constantly try to replace him. He humiliated him and subjugated him, slowly robbing him of more and more of his agency. This Vader wouldn't have that. This might even give him time to reflect and slowly open his mind to the light again since Sidious' dark cloud would be lifted. Now, the first few years? Yeah, brutal. He would go on an imperial campaign. He would wage war on all systems engaged in slavery, indiscriminately slaughtering billions for merely being associated with slavers by dint of existing in the same systems. Strong arming the Senate and effectively declaring himself a dictator? Definitely. He would openly hunt detractors and whilst his power in the Force grows, so to would the chances of standing up to him decrease. By the time of Return of the Jedi, he would be close to a Force god, but not yet one since only a balanced Anakin can become that. But I don't think it would even reach that point. I think Vader might turn to the light much earlier. Simply because he would grow frustrated with Padme's death and would want to understand how she really died. Discovering the truth, he would search for his children and on that journey, he would be forced to face Anakin. Without Sidious in his head, Qui Gon might even be able to commune with him. This journey, without years of manipulation from Sidious might prove fruitful for the Light. But here is why I think the Empire may have been more successful under Vader, in the long term, assuming he remains Vader. For one, he knew that placing massive investment into weapons of mass destruction to the detriment of the imperial military was a mistake. He did not have faith in things like the Death Star projects. He saw them as single points of failure. And he was right. Anakin is not a politician. He doesn't have the subtlety to wield discrete levers of power. However, the Empire largely failed because Sidious structured it in such a way so as to mirror the competition inherent within the Sith order. He also engineered the Empire with the end goal of granting him ultimate power. Now, Vader was a Sith yes, but he was not devoted to the Sith like Sidious. He saw it as a means to an end. In Vader's mind, he was fighting his own righteous cause. He still believed that he was going to "save" the Galaxy. Now, fascist dictators sometimes may believe they are truly saving a country whilst destroying it, but I kind of see Vader as potentially bringing some good. For one, he wouldn't need to siphon the entire Galactic economy to fund his secret weapons of mass destruction. Vader would have invested more into the operations of the Galactic military. He likely would have kept the clone program alive too. He would have eliminated the sluggishness in the Senate and he would have eradicated the various cartels and crime rings because, remember, he might be an authoritarian dictator, but he still believed in some twisted way that he was going to bring "peace, freedom and justice" to his new empire. So as much as he might have hunted and killed democratic rebels, he also would have hunted and killed the various criminal organisations he DESPISED. Another important thing to note is that Vader expected performance and success from those under him. He DESPISED the political moves and machinations of the Moffs, the Senate and the various generals and officers who would try to accomplish imperial goals in order to further their careers at the expense of their colleagues and thus often at the expense of the Empire itself because these people would deliberately sabotage the Empire if it meant they could come out looking like heroes for the Empire. Vader DESPISED Sidious' application of inspiring ruthless competition within the Imperial executive and military branches. Being a former general himself who lead a war and had a successful and effective force under him, Vader would have demanded loyalty and the dedication towards Imperial goals as opposed to "here is a plan, whoever gets it right first gets to sit on my lap". The Empire may just have run more efficiently under Vader since he is more single minded and doesn't have ulterior more vain motives like Sidious. What does this mean for the actual citizens of the Galaxy? Well, they might be technically safer and possibly wealthier in the end but they would be subjugated and stripped of their rights. However, I believe this version of the Empire may have been better equipped to face threats like the Vong and Rebellions that inevitably result in abominations like the New Republic that just can't manage anything.

Anakin being burned forced him to be humbled without the suit would just be even more cocky

Sidious was at least an actual noble and politician. Anakin leading would be like a body builder beating up the President and then trying to fly around the world to beat people up if they didn't do what he wanted.

Now the question is, if Vader had convinced Padme to join him, killed Palpatine, and then she brought him back to the light. What would a galaxy led by Emperor Anakin and Queen Padme look like?

If he could quickly dispatch the remaining Jedi and just be over it. He would be like a tsunami rolling through the universe. Palpatine is one foot in one foot out of peace through the senate vs peace at the edge of a saber. Palpatine loves praise. Anakin/Vader feigns affection. It would be like a blitzkrieg across the galaxy. Plus he would listen to Thrawn and not put all your credits in 1 or 2 baskets JUST to be like " look at me. I'm so powerful " it's like. We know , dude. We have VHS tapes of Nihilus. Lol. Anyway. That's my rant. ✌️

I like the thought of Anakin founding a Empire based on the Eternal Empire or Darth Revan's Sith Empire.

There are some real historical cases we can look at. Vader might have adopted the same strategy Caeusecu did after taking power in Romania. Caeusecu initially liberalised the country a little and gained widespread support by doing so, outmanuvering his opponents in the process. Once his power base was secured, however, Caeusecu showed his true colours and cracked down savagely on all opposition. I believe Beria was trying a similar strategy after the death of Stalin.

With Darth Vader as Emperor, the level of FEAR would increase even further.

i know one thing: Vader would have been far more terrifying without the suit. Anakin with Sith Eyes glaring from under the cowl of his hood, a snare on his lips, and his Lightsaber fighting style amped up further than its prime on Mustafar would be a frightening thing to see.

I think uncrippled Vader would be less aggressive in his negotiations than suited Vader. I also think he would have retained his belief in justice if palpatine hadn't pushed him so far to the dark. I imagine Vader would be all about preservation of order. Need of the many type mentality That's why Vader is compelling, because his intentions were noble But absolute power corrupted absolutely (until ROJ anyway)

Keep in mind, the cannon Vader did the mass killing he did to subordinates because being burned alive and in that suit to keep him alive, he was in constant agony and on the edge of insanity. As full power Anakin, he would not have that, therefore though bathed in the dark side, he would not have the pain and insanity of Vader. Therefore, I do not believe he would be as 'kill-happy' as cannon Vader. Also keep in mind, he would also have Padme and the children to help temper him. Over time, he may not even be pure dark side. He may be a more half a half where he uses the dark side but is not constantly engulfed in it because he has the love of Padme and the children to keep him more grounded. So, he may not be as crazy as your claiming without the influence of Palpatine, and instead influenced by those he loves. Basically, over time becoming actually balanced, even. And if that's the case, this civil war may never take place, because he doesn't do the things you're claiming.

If Anakin became Emperor with now his knowledge of both Jedi and Sith, Light and Dark he would be the true physical force to reestablish balance, but since Vader is a mad dog without a leash then the balance would still be tilting after what Plagueis and Sidious did.

Well... old palps is cunning, usually calm and almost purely follows logic while Anakin can be emotionally driven and impulsive. Palpatine wouldn't do something that would destroy an entire plan... anakin on the other hand may turn on the spot.

Lol can you imagine: Tenebrous -> Plagueis -> Sidious spend a literal century building up intricate networks, financial and political power, they nearly abandon physical combat entirely, working to literally own the Galaxy through cunning. I think one thing that would be a big determining factor would be if he learned at all to use the force more so than his blade. Part of the reason Dooku always wooped him during the clone wars is he very rarely ever fought him with the force which I think he could have overwhelmed him with. Like stated in the video it was always a "lightsaber solution" and Anakin never learned this. Even after showing his power over the son and the daughter on Mortis he immediately forgets about it and tries to fight the son after this with his blade. All of this to say that if someone with his power were to use force suggestion/influence as the emperor I think he wouldn't have much of a problem as full Power Vader/Anakin would be tough I think for even the strongest of wills to resist. He needs a page or two from Exar Kuun's manual.

I think Palpatine would’ve attempted to take Anakin’s body and therefore his power. He knew the secret to essence transfer from Darth Undedu’s Holocron. That’s why his clone was perfect. He wanted to break Skywalker’s will which he did but it would’ve been absolutely destroyed had he defeated Obi Wan. The destruction of his body made him weaker and no longer useful as a vessel.

As Emperor, I think Vader would have the support of his military cronies. Tarkin would likely join him, Yuleran, and so would Thrawn, having met Anakin during the war. I could see him forming a council of such individuals to aid him in the political, and military side, he would still need to be careful though, such ambitious men would lead to many ambitious schemes. As for his Force potential, it is unclear if he would seek out greater Sith knowledge to increase his abilities, Anakin was not an academic, and if he was anything like he was in the main timeline, he would not spend time going through books and holocrons. I think he would try to rule, not as a Sith, but a dark side juggernaut, a hammer rather than a scalpel. In such a timeline I could see a fallen Jedi picking up where Palpatine left off, maybe reforming the Sith as an enemy of Anakin. Which would likely result in a free for all style war. Republic loyalists, Sith cultists, remaining Jedi, and who knew who else against Anakin's war machine.

The RU-vid channel Fantasy Folklore actually does a cool video going over a theoretical timeline where Anakin and Padme are both force sensitives and took over the empire. Very similar to this video's depiction of Anakin's empire.

I think you're giving Anakin way too much credit here. Remember that this is the guy who wrecked who only knows how many star destroyers in the Anoat System asteroid field trying to catch one little freighter in a gambit that ultimately failed in every respect. He's impulsive, rejects sound advice, and prone to Force Choking people for not doing what he wants. In this kind of climate, the Rebellion would have grown *much* larger and faster than it did under Palpatine. The military and the Senate would quickly become concerned about Anakin's actual behavior in contrast to his public image. Plus, once he really started to crack down, the public would inevitably wonder if the "saintly" Chancellor Palpatine's murder happened because the alleged Jedi conspiracy against the Senate was actually led by Anakin all along. Remember, people loved Palpatine too - in the beginning.

My impression from Revenge of the Sith was that until Vader’s “accident”, Siddious had every intention of continuing the Rule of Two, training Vader as his successor, and eventually being killed. He was bragging to Yoda that one day, Vader would be stronger than both of them. Then Vader level-capped himself, so Siddious had to change his plan. In Dark Empire, he convinced Luke to come to the Dark Side by telling him that he’d learn how to defeat Siddious himself. The best outcome of either scenario was always a Skywalker on the throne. Though, both Anakin and Luke had some amount of Jedi training. I think Siddious would have done better kidnapping Leia and breaking her will before training.

I’m a add a different option, I say Anakin, especially if Padama is still alive, he falls back on the light side because love is stronger than his desire for power. He remembers being a salve and doesn’t want to be seen by Padme’ as condoning those kinds of actions. He starts listening to her advice and that of other around him. He becomes a wise and way less rash ruler. Darth Anakin the wise, Sith Lord of light, he who brought real peace to the galaxy.

One of the things i always wondered is: Was Palpatine always sure he could keep control over Anakin even if the incident on Mustafar never occured? We all know the true power and skills of Palpatine with a light saber. But Anakins's powers were ever growing over time. Did the dark lord have a contingency plan to keep his apprentice in check? Well to be honest if Anakin was emperor he likely would have been kinder than Palpatine no mass enslavement, he would have likely either scrapped the Death Star or at least refused to use it on a heavily populated planet like Alderron. I'm not sure why you think Vader would be crueler than Sidious at first he disagreed with many of his policies like enslaving others...

Only as a FULLY realized Sith High Lord would Anakin as Vader be WORSE then Palpatine... Had the latter been able to FULLY train him of course... The one thing I never got from Revenge of The Sith was why Anakin would go from love for Chancellor Palpatine to wanting to overthrow him.

There's something to question when it comes to "unburnt" Vader, would this version of Anakin be the same? Alot of the Vader we know came from his maiming, and the torture chamber of a suit he was confined to, along with Palpatines "lessons" which more often than not including additional injury and insult. All of those factors drove Vader into more and more rageful state, akin to a rabid, tortured animal. This Vader though would be free of those, shall we say impulses. This Vader would mostly be driven by his sense of "justice" and hunger for power, particularly preventing or reversing death. I think, we're more likely to end up with something akin to Tenebrae/Vitiate during his Zakuul period - somewhat disinterested in politics and ruling, simply seeking further power for the sake of power and control. But that's just my two pennies.

I imagine that Palpatine had to have been an organizational genius. When you hear about the abundance of massive projects, programs, and campaigns, it’s insane what he achieved in a short time.

Here's an interesting idea. Since He mainly committed to the Dark side to "Save Padme". What If He "discovered" that the Padme thing was just a ruse from Sidious, and He just decides to kill Sidious, or let Windu kill Him in the tower, all without harming the Younglings or remaining Jedi. Then He might be able to return to the light considering He wouldn't have lost everything at that point, and might be able to redeem Himself. Would make things a lot better if He kills Sidious before Order 66, that way it's more likely for things to somewhat return to normal. That way the Jedi don't get killed off, and they might be able to get a new Chancellor who could negotiate some kind of peace deal Between them and the remaining members of the Separatists, by also using the fact Palpatine played both sides as a reason why it all began...

I could POSSIBLY see Anakin actually dialing it down a little for two reasons: First, Padmé wouldn't just betray him, she'd try to get through to him; if not to restore democracy (because at this point it's basically nonexistent thanks to Palpatine), then to at very least not go full Force Choke on everyone. I'm assuming in this scenario, Anakin just knocked Padmé out rather than Force Choking her before fighting Obi-Wan. Second is Ahsoka. I doubt Anakin would just want to kill Ahsoka on sight, which would give her the chance to talk some calm into him. I could also see Rex coming back to "General Skywalker" once he learns Anakin is in charge now. Remember that most of Darth Vader's poor impulse control came from losing to Obi-Wan in Mustafar AND losing Padmé and his children. So, Emperor Vader in this scenario is, technically speaking, in a better place emotionally. And at this point, save for the scraps of the Jedi Order left hiding about, Anakin would have no "enemies" to aim his rage at save at the Separatist Holdouts (those would have to be dealt with one way or another) and the Hutt Cartels, Zygerrian Slavers and other criminal syndicates (only corrupt senators would defend those). Once THOSE were done with, his anger would basically peter out and would only emerge at specific moments (say, sociopolitical or economical matters where one side is causing trouble, like we see Darth Vader do in Legends every now and then). Personally, with all the stress points that caused him to go over the edge gone (Obi-Wan, Jedi Order, Palpatine, the Separatists and Padmé's impending death), I think Anakin would take few hours to sit down, take a deep breath, catch up on his sleep (this poor bastard was insomniac through the whole ROTS plot, no wonder he cracked!) and then think on where to go from now. He wouldn't go back to the easygoing plucky Anakin from TCW, but he wouldn't become the broken shell hate-filled Darth Vader either. I think that, at this point, the Galactic Empire would become akin to the Roman Empire; the senate would remain, and Anakin-as-Emperor would hold ultimate authority over the military while the Senate would essentially be forced to carry out the bureaucratic and economic parts of governing according to his desire rather than their personal intrigues. Ironically, the would-be Rebel Alliance could essentially take on the role of making the senate capitulate while convincing Anakin not to go overboard. Basically a soft "Great Crusade Era-Imperium of Man" in the Horus Heresy. I don't think Padmé could stomach outright betraying Anakin for years, she'd take the role of "silk glove" to try rein in his "iron fist". I could also see Emperor Anakin going for the Eternal Empire route. No more Jedi or Sith, but a new order of Force Sensitives that would keep the peace and order actively rather than just medidate and debate nonstop. Ahsoka would be his Praetorian, so to speak, and I could see other former Jedi who had doubts about the Order like Jerec and even Quinlan Vos joining him. Anakin didn't issue Order 66, after all, Palpatine did; he'd basically issue a pardon to any Jedi who forsook the Jedi Code and submitted to the new order. The upside to Emperor Anakin is that, unlike Palpatine, he would be way less obsessed with immortality (Anakin wants to stop people he loves from dying out of their time, not to avoid or eliminate death altogether) and abusing power for its own sake. Anakin would be the ultimate Totalitarian Utilitarian, demanding the Senate, Imperial corporations and the military do their job of providing for Imperial citizens OR ELSE. Frankly, save for rebellions, you wouldn't see the Empire intentionally making things difficult for the common man to please some political agenda. Think Doctor Doom's Latveria. The funny part of this scenario is that the likes of Tarkin and Isard would be in a VERY tense situation. Anakin is a man of action, he doesn't like sycophants and would also demand that the Imperial Military do things by HIS standards, not THEIRS. So no Death Stars, no COMPNOR, and _definitely_ no slavery. They would also have to be VERY careful not to upset the Emperor's wife or children. XD

I have seen a few videos saying Anakin's weakness was his love for the people, that he was driven by his need to protect everyone around him, even his clone soldiers. I think that without Palpatine messing with his mind, he would be a heavy handed emperor but I don't think he would become the monster this video suggests. I think Padme would be there to temper his more rash impulses and he would listen to her because he loves her so much.

Emperor Vader is such an underrated what if scenario

The really terrifying thing would be what Vader would learn from the ancient Sith. As Traya states, eve in that era, they are children compared to the old masters. It is noted that the ancient Sith hated Palpatine's fascination with the Jedi and his alternate tactics but Vader would be more in line with their line of thinking. The old conflict being his arrogant and childish view of things but thsoe Sith would try to manipulate that to their advantage or at least view him as a more worthy inheritor of the Sith legacy than Palpatine. Anakin would follow his passions, just as the Sith code dictates. Who knows what he could learn from the right hollocrons? Many of them were held by the Jedi so Darth Bane's Rule Of Two lineage would not have access to them and if he did find Bane's hollocron or one from a Sith, later in that era that had even more knowledge, then he would become an almost unprecedented scholor of the dark side of the force. Yes, Palpatine had similar access but his body is old and weak compared to the chosen one so Anakin could have time to learn using this mix of knowledge, so long as his empire lasted. With the right knowledge thought, he could potentially use his power as the chosen one to be more of a threat than Nihilus or Palpatine was in the comics. Yeah, if Palpatine tried essence transfer, um that would not end well. He'd either fail or end up like Orochimaru having the ritual turned on him by Sasuke.

I wish you had mentioned Asoka and star killer in this timeline. I would’ve really liked to know the role you would see for them.

Palpating was a shadow, void of everything. Vader was more like a maelstrom of rage and sadness, seeking nothing but destruction to fill his bottomless pit of regret.

Considering that Anakin at full potential would have made Sidious and Yoda look like children, it would have been a monster or force of nature set loose on the galaxy. I think the comparison to Vitiate is pretty good. That's assuming he stays evil of course. Without Palpatine around he might flip back a bit especially if Padme and his kids are around.

Had the Death Star plans still made its way into rebel hands, the ultra violent civil war would have erupted into so many frontlines, the rebellion would have accumulated/sacrificed everything they had to speed-construct one with time in some far away galactic corner. Once the super rebel moon base had been revealed, so does Mon Mothma openly announce whom she really was, sitting on the throne, associated by a traitorous Padmé answering to her. Luke would have to still destroy it, and ultimately face against his own mother to save his father, his sister, and many Imperial citizens from being obliterated as the Rebellion’s final resort towards winning.

Stupendous Wave I have a suggestion for a future video series. Do you think you could have video’s analyzing books such as Darth Plagueis? The book is excellent however the beginning chapters of the book concerning the Naboo plasma reserves I’ve never understood. Also maybe you could analyze how the book fits Plagueis into Phantom Menace perfectly. Again thank you for representing Star Wars fans everywhere. 😇😇😇

The biggest problem Vader had was that he was only dangerous if he was standing right in front of you, although at that point it would of course be too late. Palpatine would have had networks upon networks of spies to the point where any traitorous idea uttered would eventually make it to him, and then he would kill you from the other side of the galaxy (or not, if that served his purposes). I just can't see Vader scheming deeply enough to pull off a multi-decade plot. I can easily see Palpatine not just conceiving, but actually pulling off something like that.

I'm not sure if he would still keep the name Vader since if he managed to get rid of Sidious, he wouldn't be under that guy's thumb. He might not be reclaimed by the Jedi Code but I also suspect that he wouldn't care that much about Sith tradition either. Part of accepting a name change was accepting that the other person has great influence over you and your life. By arranging for Sidious' death(so soon, not needing his help to keep Padme alive), he's effectively rejecting the name change. So he might meet bare minimum requirements for being a Sith or a Jedi, but unable to embrace either(at least initially) if Padme agreed to join him.

Master Vader 😂

I knew from the very beginning that Vader would've been worse than Palpatine. And i was right after watching this video. But the idea of him becoming more powerful and more dangerous than anyone could've imagined. I hadn't taken into account just what he could've done and just how awful he would be.

This is a tough one. On one hand, I could see it. On the other, without Palpatine manipulating him, I feel he would "see the light." Well not the whole light. He'd fall in the middle more than anything, seeing how the Jedi were quite fallible, plus the force requires BALANCE. Not One side or the other. He would essentially ascend to godhood in that regard. I could see him ending the sith, and fracturing the Jedi. He'd stick close to the senate, maybe even taking Palpatine's place, but momentarily. I could see him playing "royal guard" or the like to whomever, jelping to bring certain balance to the galaxy, and beyond because lets be honest. He needs to be able to roam as he pleases

I never got the impression he had the self-confidence or the intellectual or diplomatic abilities an emperor would have to have, so his reign would have been short.

and this is why I want a reboot of Star Wars because this is a version of Vader that I want in non-burning mode and especially in gods mode

One thing I believe prevents Anakin from reaching his potential is the same reason Palpatine failed to reach his. Yoda said it best “Size matters not. Look at me. Human or Cyborg Vader force potential was always there. Vader was conceived by the force.
