I think the “ribbons” being undone even though the “threads of moonlight” are still present is meant to represent that even though the marionette is physically free and doesn’t hold any physical obligations to the king in black, he has mentally become bewitched by him, and thus, he no longer FEELS like he can leave. And that is really just another representation of shumika’s relationship because although ex-Valk is gone and Shu HAS tried to let Mika be free physically (Human Comedy), Mika is just so infatuated with him that no matter what Shu does to him, he will never leave. Overall, the threads being made from moonlight symbolizes that they’re hard to see which is why despite Shu untying the physical “ribbons” of their unit work off of Mika, he didn’t realize that mental, metaphorical threads were implanted in Mika’s mind (which he does realize in Neverland) Shumika is so tragically beautiful 😭 imma go and listen to Miwaku Geki again. Do you plan on analyzing anymore Valk songs? Because I loved this video!!
a GORGEOUS analysis, I don't even know how to properly respond to this because it just makes SO much sense... your brain is truly amazing... i will totally do more valk songs, i just have to figure out which to do next 👍
Okay, but imagine the same video with crazy roulette So in this part, they are saying crazy roulette mawase roulette while ALSO doing cowboy lasso movement. Clearly, it is a deep metaphor about society.
"In conclusion, Crazy Roulette is a malicious subliminal messaging directed at the players of the hit game Ensemble Stars to spend their money on in game currency. Perchance"
11:58 omg I feel the exact same way about the official eng translation SPECIFICALLY bc they butchered my boy Hiiro's line in You're Speculation!! (minor rant incoming) ok so at 2 : 40 in the full length song we have a pretty iconic Hiiro solo line, right before the closing bridge, where he says "That's speculation, right?" (this translation is backed by the two most viewed fan translations on yt). "Speculation" is said in English, so the full line is pronounced like "Supekeurashion, daro?". HOWEVER. the official translation? it's "Your special Ace?". like, at least it fits thematically, but the title of the song is literally You're SPECULATION, and the word doesn't come up anywhere else in the song!!! i know it's such a minor thing but it irritates me to no end because number one, this is a really important line in the song, and two, this is my son and my boy Hiiro Amagi, you simply cannot mess his lines up come on >:( anyway incredible video, shumika lore is real and scary, powerpoint is an incredibly powerful medium of video format, and i love your unhinged laughter. subscribed 👍
I UNDERSTAND YOU COMPLETELY like the mistake may be small but it's your special guy's line!! how dare they mess it up!! shumika lore is real and scary should be the thesis of this video honestly. thanks for enjoying 👍
I HAVE THOUGHTS ABOUT 5:56 So, Mika can sing this line because I think Mika is not the only Marionette being referred to in the song. "Marionette" is anyone who could be bewitched by the king of darkness, anyone who would see this as a siren song and make a deal with the devil ect. Mika as a Marionette is taking ownership of the actions of the king of darkness because he is the ultimate example of someone controlled by that king. His identity is so intertwined with the King of Darkness that any action he takes they both take together. Ultimate in erased identity and autonomy. It's so sinister, I love it ❤
OH YES that's such a good point!! especially combined with mika's obsession with being shu's "one and only doll" back then. and their identities literally intertwining?? you can't even tell where one starts and the other ends?? what a horrific idea i love it so much
For “let us touch your heart and awaken you Marionette” in Japanese there aren’t pronouns on this part, so the marionette Mika’s talking about could be himself. He’s suggesting someone touch his heart to awaken him. I clicked on this video expecting a five minute gag and got way too into this.
watching this video was one of the best decisions made this day. ...also, yeah you definitely got my attention at 9:32 honestly tho, this is such a great analysis, i hope you make more of these because i absolutely love just analyzing lyrics of the songs and linking it to the story or making connections between different songs. it's always nice to see someone else's interpretation on stuff like this. by the way! i don't know how fair it is to compare ! and !! era songs in terms of trying to find the common themes (you'll see what i mean), but i really liked your interpretation of darkness and fear being synonymous. before i heard it though, i kinda tried to analyze this song myself and the lines about darkness (The wings of a king dressed in black, // Who controls even darkness) really reminded me of the eternal weaving spoken part, where mika is being referred to as a shadow. in fact, i'm pretty sure i can remember a few instanses of shu saying that mika is his shadow in ! era stories. so, what im trying to say is: can it also be interpreted as him controlling mika too? i mean, it's not like this song is all about controlling anyone, surely it isn't haha... yeah... it kinda breaks tho when you read the line "a king dressed in black" (that is if we make the connection between "black" and "darkness"), but maybe i'm missing something here. anyway, valkyrie insanity is real, pls do more
THAT'S SUCH A GOOD INTERPRETATION!! I think it's totally fair to compare ! and !! era songs, especially Valkyrie ones, since they seem to always share the same underlying themes/messages. I especially like your interpretation because it's such an understated display of power. If Shu controls darkness and Mika is a shadow, then of course Shu controls him too!! That's totally how that should work and you shouldn't think about The Implications at all!! It's so sinister, I love it. I will be analyzing more songs in the future, so stay tuned for that 👍
Honestly don’t pay any mind to this, but I always viewed the marionette line that Mika sings as a partial reference to ex-valk Nazuna. As far as I’m aware, compared to other Valkyrie songs, we really don’t have a specific point in time where we know Shu wrote the song. Obviously it’s in the era where Mika didn’t have any say in the songs and performances, but I always suspected that Shu may have wrote the song before Nazuna left, but made revisions to it after to better reflect his grand return. If I remember correctly (which I might not) I’m pretty sure Miwaku Geki is the song that the anime used during tanabata, which was decently close timeline wise to ex-valk. I also think there might be some translation mishaps with the line worst case scenario, because sometimes with the fancy japanese Valkyrie likes to use it can be somewhat difficult to accurately portray the exact meaning of certain phrases and words into English. Anyways hit video yam shoutout to the best youtuber ever
I know you said don't pay mind, but I am paying mind anyways: these are all very interesting points! I know from other song translations that Valkyrie lyrics are as convoluted in Japanese as they are in English, but I didn't consider it could be like that in this song, too! It's a really cool thing to consider. The idea of Shu rewriting the song is especially neat to me because Miwaku Geki and Sacred Youths' Game are the only Valkyrie songs written, composed, and arranged by Ali Project, but they sound incredibly different musically. Maybe Miwaku Geki was supposed to be similar to Sacred Youths' Game and Nazuna's departure is why the tone and vibe had to shift so drastically? It's an interesting theory!
Another connection to the grand guignol with valk could be how mika canonically draws art described as "eroguro" (miking erotic ideals and grotesque into art) so I think it could also add to maybe mikas ideals of art(?) and how since he was pushed to be this marionnette that now he's trying to discover some more parts like you said that "feel more human" So it really is Mika Kagehira-coded like you said!
excellent point!! mika's enjoyment of eroguro is so apparent in everything he does, it's so neat. and i will be talking about mika's solo songs at some point so look forward to that 🙏
im so fucking mad i was typing up a damn essay of a comment while i watched the video and then i accidentally clicked on the watch next pop up and it deleted all of it so here’s what i can remember
youtube is so evil it won't even let you be insane about valkyrie anymore. literally 1984. i will respond to every detail of your comment because i'm a good friend
banger video i wish music was real ☹️ i feel like a lot of enstars song lyrics to me are a bunch of ideas swirling in a nebulous melting pot but seeing a video like this putting together a song like enthralling theatre into a coherent narrative makes me think… wow…. maybe that’s possible !!! (yikes run-on). ude no naka 💕
i wish music was real too 😔 i can't believe valkyrie invented it for one song and then never did it again... i think valkyrie songs are neat in how they almost always directly tie back to their story and character development, so it's much easier to piece together a narrative. this analysis thing is MUCH harder for a song like dance in the apocalypse or something 😭 ude no naka 🔥
I dont usually comment on videos but I genuinely must commend u for how fucking entertaining u are. Im currently hyperfixated on Valkyrie and seeing u get so excited over analyzing the song and how amazing and wonderful Shu and Mika are JUST U MADE ME LAUGH SO MUCH URE AMAZING
I've seen this video a lot of times since the past month that I lost count on how many times I watched it already😭I love this analysis, Valkyrie truly invented love
6:34 honestly I think this line makes sense for Mika bc Shu is the victim of his own creativity (if that makes any goddamn sense), he’s a slave to his own mind and Mika has always wanted to be the best he can for Shu so Mika saying ‘let me touch your heart/Oh awakened marionette’ could be abt that (I’m not caught up on Valkyrie story so correct me if I’m wrong…) but also I could just be absolutely insane
LOOSING MY MIND AS SOON AS I SAW THE VIDEO IM SO INSANE ABT MIWAKUGEKI AND THEN I SEE THIS WTF k hold on im actually going insane lemme watch the video now are you secretly mika i didnt know ppl other than me that breaks apart valkyrie songs this much existed wow
Thank you for the lecture professor. Lol seriously loved this video! A lot of food for thought but also hilarious with the editing (pausing for the text you wrote took me out lmao). The video really got me sitting here pausing then talking to myself. For example, the whole aspect of Shu letting go of the marionette could just be a metaphor to how entrapped/enthralled? the marionette really is (kind of like being caught in a spider web). It reminds me of the whole mental trap of someone being trapped for so long that the door could be unlocked hell even open, and they won't leave. Like physically bro is free but won't leave because of his own mind. Kinda like a tease that he is really not free, and it brings Shu enjoyment??? That is the only thing I could come up with. Anyways great video! Fun fact, I have both of my Shu and Mika omanjuus sitting on my desk staring at me while I watch this video. What secrets do their cute eyes hide? Fun times lol
I was gonna keep scrolling when i found this video but when i saw 24 MINUTES AND 44 SECONDS LONG? I wonder what are you yapping abt and since im a valkP so yeah im in lets hear your thoughts
The reason that the official translation is so weird is because the English version of the game translates everything in jp->cn->eng which is why a lot of stories and such will be very weirdly translated
