Why does he make videos only about this workout? Is this the rowing channel?

He does make videos about other stuff, but Rowing is his specialty. I've personally benefitted a lot from his rowing tips and workouts

This type of rowing should hit your lats and rhomboids, the best way to get stronger and bigger is to load these muscles with tension and increase the time they are under tension. When you push with your legs it takes the tension off your back and onto your legs. Now your legs are moving the weights and your back is missing out on the most productive part of the actual row which would be the part where it’s under the most tension, in this case it’s the time when the cable is closest to the machine and your arms are fully extended in front of you . A much better way to isolate the back muscles would be to lock your legs and fully extend your arms in front of you then focusing on driving your elbows back as far as you can. If you want to hit your legs with this machine the way he listed above is pretty good but there are significantly better leg exercises even just using body weight if you’re working on a tight budget.

As a collegiate rower you have no idea what you're talking about.

@@ethanroberts3127 We do come from different backgrounds mine being bodybuilding yours being specifically rowing. That being said let’s be a little bit more intelligent than saying “You’re wrong!”. The most important thing in growing muscle is stressing the muscle. The best way to get the stress on the muscle is with tension and enough of it for the muscle to get close to or to a point of failure which signals the body to make that muscle larger to prepare for the next stress and make it easier. That’s a really simplified version but gets the point across. So in this case if you want to grow specifically your back then rowing the weight using your legs removes tension from your back during the point it would have the greatest impact which is the point it would have your back in the most stretched position. If you’re trying to get better at rowing as a whole the machine is great but for specific back training removing tension reduces the stress on your muscles which means they have no reason to grow.

@@baracudajr7656no you r wrong. Because the erg is not designed as a bodybuilding tool. Use the cable row for that

Gotta be honest if an exercise takes this much effort to do properly and doesn't have an incredible payoff it's not worth the headache.

Condescending and confusing. Perfect for teaching. "You can't use your legs and pull," then explains how you're supposed to use your legs and pull. The only difference from the bad example you had at the beginning and the correct form is delaying the hip swing. The pull naturally comes at the end. Also, in the weird bad example, you didn't even pull. You just used the legs and hip swing. The arms were straight the whole time you scooted back and forth. Is the hip swing the pull, or is bringing your arms back the pull?

I remember seeing a similar piece of advice for running to “push down” not “lift up” and at first I thought that was ridiculous. But I tried it and it actually worked and improved my running. So it’s actually more of a mental strategy, as we are not actually pushing anything. But it actually helps us to use different parts of our bodies. In this example, when “pulling” he uses his arms and upper body, and as you can see, it would work if the hips were in a steady position. But when he “pushes” he’s mostly pushing from his legs up so you can do it with the flexible hips. By pushing from the legs, your hips will move with the seat. And it won’t strain your upper body/back. Does that make sense? Can you start to see it. It’s such a minor difference but it helps a lot
