Downtown St. Pete is one of the most coveted areas to move to in the Tampa Bay area. So why does everyone want to move there and how much does it cost to live there?
Honestly, it's just a really cool and beautiful place to live. Downtown St. Petersburg truly does have it all - the whole bay front is lined with gorgeous parks that host different festivals and events throughout the year. It's the perfect place for a long walk with your pet, a bike ride, or just to sit and enjoy the water view. It's a walkable city with a vibrant, inclusive energy.
Art galleries such as The Salvador Dali Museum, the Chihuly Collection, home to some of the most stunning glass art, at the Morean Art Center, and the Museum of Fine Arts on Beach Drive.
If you feel like shopping, Downtown St. Pete has lots of options from national store brands to local boutiques. These stores are throughout the vicinity, but check out the Sundial area for a concentration of some of the more well-known retailers.
Restaurants could be an episode all of its own, with so many amazing choices it's hard to go wrong.
St. Pete has sports teams! The Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field and the Tampa Bay Rowdies professional soccer team.
Music lovers can catch great shows at The Mahaffey theater, or Jannus Live for smaller outdoor shows. Many bars and restaurants also boast live music - one of my picks is Ruby's Elixir.
Downtown St. Petersburg is located on the east side of Pinellas County, only about a 15-20 minute drive away from St. Pete Beach on the west side.
Because so many people want to live there, it has become pretty expensive to own or rent. If you want to live in the heart of downtown, you'll probably have to choose from a townhouse or a condominium - many are in high rises. They range from small studio to penthouses. If you're lucky, you might be able to find a few for around $200,000 - but the median price is in the $500,000 range with prices going up well over $2 million.
What about rentals? The same is true. Look to pay a minimum of $1,000 / month with most costing more than $2,000 / month.
Popular neighborhoods nearby include the Historic Old Northeast, Snell Isle, and Venetian Isles.
What about affordable areas near Downtown St. Petersburg? The short answer is, yes, of course there are. More budget-friendly neighborhoods tend to be farther away from the downtown core and the houses may need some TLC. It's possible to find a single-family home for under $300,000.
Remember that most of St. Petersburg was developed quite a while ago, so there are lots of older, traditional, Florida-style ranch homes.
In closing, Downtown St. Petersburg is as beautiful and as fun as it seems. There are always resale opportunities in the area and new condo projects to look into.

Hi Melanie- my wife and I love your vids and they were in part responsible for our recent move to "The Burg". We are so stoked about St Pete! We live on the south side on Coquina Key, an area that is undergoing its' own renaissance . Real Estate prices here are still very reasonable because we are on the leading edge of the revitalization. If you are ever in the neighborhood please give us a call. We would love to give you a quick tour! Again, awesome job on all your vids!

Sadly I had to move back to my hometown West Palm after college but I plan to move back here next year. It’s really amazing how far St. Pete has come. I lived down there for a couple years relatively recently and the night life/downtown scene is fantastic. I had the pleasure of speaking to several natives who’ve grown with the city and they all said the same thing, “it’s amazing how far the city has come.” The people as a whole are genuine, wholesome, and everyone really seems to mind their own business. Plus it’s not really a bustling city like some might consider Tampa. St. Pete really is in a class of its own considering the uniqueness that it offers

St. Pete in my opinion is a fantastic spot for someone to move to if they enjoy a relatively quiet life with still quite a bit to do. St. Pete offers a lot but you will find in a short amount of time that you’ve exercised just about all you can do that best suits your interests. The food is outstanding and nothing is ever more than a 25 minute drive. The beach and weather are always on point but it can get extremely hot and humid from late spring into fall. I loved St. Pete for the time I was there, but moving there permanently is something that I don’t necessarily recommend for someone who really enjoys the dynamics of doing different things throughout the year. St. Pete is St. Pete 24/7 365. There’s no significant weather or seasonal variables. However, most people move to Florida without having to deal with such variables. All depends where you’re at in your life!!

All restaurants and bars choked with maskless people, minimal convenient parking (you have to use a valet mostly), the bars and restaurants have been beaten to a pulp by an excess of customers (yes, that's possible), and the paver sidewalks are absolutely filthy. You'd think the merchants and restaurateurs would chip in to clean them ever couple of weeks, at least, but they don't seem interested. And the charm and distinction is disappearing fast as they demolish the buildings that gave the area charm in the first place.

Thank you Melanie for reminding me of why I left St Pete. Beautiful place downtown, but boring, and literally yuppie hell. No life at all. One lame cafe after another w/ a smattering of kitsch art galleries.

I like PH and Seminole for Pinellas. Belleair is pretty as hell too but surrounded by the Largo Clwtr garbage. I like the Hillsborough side more.

Lived in Kenwood less than 5 minutes away for 12 years. I was bored stiff. Places do not stay in business very long and the night life is dead compared to any real city. Crime was terrifying and the schools are the worst. It got old having homeless people knocking on my door asking for money or laying on my property. Every month a new drug dealer moved in and the neighbors and I ran them off but another took their place. Now they are gentrifying the area and putting people out on the streets to make way for the Californians.

@@auspicious93 That is a neat place if you have 5 to 700k to spend on a shack. Still bums asking for money and criminals riding bikes around stalking the place.

Been living in St. Pete my entire life, mostly Downtown St. Pete and honestly the area has came up tremendously. It’s almost a completely different city. With that said the people in St. Pete have also changed, but not for the better. These snobs are probably the worst people I’ve ever met in my life, and very unfriendly, unless you’re wealthy and white. A huge disappointment
