Lived in Jax for 23 years and moved 2 years ago. Jacksonville, the murder capital of Fl, crime is out of control, public schools are literally falling apart, lots of litter everywhere, traffic is terrible, lots of homeless people, etc. The city has rapidly gone downhill despite numerous tax increases!
There are certainly parts of Jacksonville that have been hit harder than others. Downtown and and NW Jax has had a tough time.. We have seen a big influx of people into South Jax and North St Johns county.
@@thegoober8797 I love Jacksonville and the surrounding area. I have had plenty of chances to move, but this is home.. Not quite sure what you mean by "hate keeping" the area. 😎
Florida is not for the weak, I have been living here for over 12 years. Rent has increased 50% in 10 years. If your income increased 50% in 10 years, then you are fine. If you cannot tolerate a tropical climate, stay up north. I love it here. 😊. No snow, no ice.
I grew up in Jacksonville and lived there from 2001 to 2016 then 2019 to 2022. The place is not how it used to be and a lot of people I know are trying to leave. It’s getting too crowded and the taxes are getting higher. The cost of living went up my aunt house went from $390 to $1000 and the city already started to take some of her yard a way. For years she had the biggest yard and now her yard is smaller.
Things have changed here quite a bit.. I have been in the area since 1994. There have been some good changes (better roads, more shopping, etc) and some that people don't like (more people, housing price increases, insurance increases).
The problem is the cost of auto insurance, property taxes, Medicare costs supplemental plans etc, as compared to other states. No state income tax doesn’t equal out for all the extra taxes period.
@@JoeVinson I am looking at my policy right now and increasing my deductible to try and offset some of the expense.. I think help is on the way over the next year or 2 as more companies come back into Florida.
@@kagg.1381 I look at my costs of a property that I own in Vermont and what the costs are for everything in that area and most of the Northeast still prices out higher than Jacksonville FL.. Other areas of FL are more expensive than here, so those will look similar in overall costs
Jax Native here: I left Jax in 2007 then moved to Orlando and then up to Seattle. Can’t speak for everyone, but I left Jax for several reasons. 1. The heat. Hated it since birth. There’s a saying, you can always bundle up to get warm, but you can be butt naked and still be burning hot. The humidity makes it worse too. On the West Coast, the heat just doesn’t get that humid, and in WA it barely gets above 80 degrees in the summer except for like a “3 day dry heat Heatwave” in August. Seasons aren’t bad either. That 1st color change in leaves or that 1st snowflake of winter is something special and bummed I didn’t experience that growing up in FL. 2. The jobs. Jax pay is so low and the diversity of jobs is meh. Logistics, Banking, Navy, Healthcare…that’s it. If you’re not in one of these industries you’re SOL. And if you’re in retail or hospitality? You better have at least 2 jobs to just be able to rent. Mortgage? Forget about it. 3. Lack of Things to do. If you’re coming from a place like upstate NY or Michigan or rural GA or Kansas and you want beach culture then you’ll find Jax to be great. But if you’re coming one of the big Northeast cities or from the outdoorsy/urban Westcoast cities where mountains and ocean and city are within an hour or two from each other, Jax can seem dull. Unless you live at the beach, you’re not going to the beach every day. Jags games are cool, and so are the Jumbo Shrimp & Giants games but it’s not a true major sports town like Atlanta or NYC or Seattle or LA etc. There’s monthly events & Riverside has the Arts Market but overall I suggest Orlando, Tampa or Miami for endless things to do in FL. 4. Violent Crime. Jax is the Murder Capital of FL. Turn on the local news and you’ll see who gets shot every night. Property Theft ain’t low either. There’s not a single major city on the Westcoast that has violent crime as high as Jax. Something to think about if you’re moving to avoid higher cost of living. Yes, a good suburb or gated community can shield you from the realities of trigger happy Duval, but it still sucks how you can’t access every area of the city you live in. 5. Southern Fakeness. The “Southern Hospitality charm” seems friendly & welcoming on the surface but it’s really superficial if you take it a step further. It’s just an excuse for locals to be in your business & be nosy, not an actual attempt at wanting to be your real friend. And that southern hospitality is only extended to people who are perceived to be friendly looking. Definitely expect behind your back words once you leave an area if you don’t pass the “vibe check”. That’s why I like the bluntness of the Northeast: tell me straight up how you feel or keep it moving. Or just do as they do on the Westcoast & say nothing at all unless you really need something. No one got time for small talk. 6. Jacksonville is in the Bible Belt. So that means liquor stores and churches on every corner. But if you want a mosque or synagogue or Temple outside of Mandarin then good luck. And don't mention you're agnostic or atheist people outside of Riverside will look at you weird. Oh & weed is illegal in FL & pretty much most of the South minus Virginia. So find your open minded purple neighborhoods in a sea of red. 7. Public Transit. Unless you live in Downtown Miami…that don’t exist in FL. 8. In WA you may encounter some fruit flies or spiders in the summer…but thats it. FL has every bug on the planet that bites, sucks & scratches you year round. Overall, move to Jacksonville at your own risk. I got out, liked my decision, but I'm biased. Who knows you might like it, try it in the summer if you do take that plunge.
Jax southern hospitality don't seem as in your face as other places in the south from my experience living in the area for a few years. I would say that working in retail would make life harder if you plan on getting an apartment.
Born here, kinda gone downhill the developers have turned it into a parking lot. Rents have increased six fold. A mayor that wants to revitalize down town, why it's not going to attract business. They want to build s new super stadium. Why? Believe it's going to be with more taxes on already hurting middle class. Increased traffic jams, mean people bad drivers.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Downtown.. I am hoping that a revitalized downtown will bring more people into the city center and make it a much more vibrant area.
Ive lived in Jacksonville for over 4 decades. This place has literally been transformed from mostly quiet, mostly quaint place to be. Now? It’s murderville. It’s landlords and rental agencies completely lawless and out of control. Mark my words: you will be screwed over. Go anywhere else, you’ll be better off. I look forward to the day I can leave.
Goodness gracious man, it's that bad? I came to visit and enjoyed the weather and the town. I have a headline app and it was a little scary, but the area I saw looked nice, especially the Jacksonville beach area.
@@BlueBalledMedia I love it here in Jacksonville. I have had many chances to move away from the area, but it is Home. I just try to give people an honest look at what it is like to live here. Many people love it but some choose to move away. We would love for you to come back and maybe call Jacksonville home.
Most of these reasons is why when we move to Jacksonville we will be renting a luxury apartment. We have no desire to "own" another house. Gonna take full advantage of apartment amenities and not have to worry about real estate problems. Live every day on vacation
Living in Rhode Island right now. Moving to Jacksonville because I hate the snow! So it’s funny that the first reason you gave was how bad the heat is. I am ready for it! Also being a single female it’s incredibly hard to find a studio apartment here for $1000 or less
Rhode Island is beautiful.. I lived in Vermont for a few years and have a 2nd home there. We are here to get you into the heat and sunshine :). The rental market here has gone up..
God I love how Americans can just do that. I don't like the snow in toronto and -25C but guess what, there's nothing I can do about it unless I move to another country lol
I was born & raised in Jacksonville. We moved out of Jacksonville this year. Between the crime & huge rent increases, it was time to move & buy a home.
Sick of everything being about Downtown. The majority of people live on the perimeter, not downtown. Then there is the continual incentive giveaway for private businesses that often doesn't work out. We get stuck with the bill, The Landing was a financial disaster.
Thank you for honest input . Seemed genuine! Thinking of moving out of California because of housing affordability. Especially with interest rates so high it’s very hard to afford a home I want even with %40 down payment. I’m a therapist and could work remotely and continue seeing my clients in California. My husband and I love beaches. But I’m not sure about high humidity and heat 😅.Even if we don’t last there, it may be a good investment to buy a house there?!
Well,,,,,, if you come to the area this time of year until about June, the humidity will not be an issue 🤪. We have some great vacation rental/short term rental homes in the area.. If you want to chat, give us a call at 904.637.7537. We would love to show you around to see if this is a place you could call home!
@@kagg.1381 I would disagree with this statement.. If a seller wants to sell in our area, there are plenty of people buying. We are selling over 2300 homes every month.
@@floridacoastalteam-lptrealty Correction: it’s misery here unless it’s late October thru Mid March. After that it’s humidity central. And mosquitoes. Lots and lots of them.
People in Jacksonville cant drive. They love to drive slow in the passing lane and block traffic, refuse to use turn signals and speed up to just cut you off and then proceed to drive 10 to 15 miles and hour under the clearly posted speed limit. It's a wonder there's not a lot of road rage incidents.
California real estate tax is lower than Florida. It’s typically 1%-1.3% of the transaction price of the home. Plus, Seniors who purchased their home decades ago can transfer their tax base to their replacement property.
Thanks so much for the comment.. We have some really good property tax protections for owner occupied homes.. Our homestead exemption caps off the maximum amount of increase to 3% and we do have a "portability" savings when someone moves from one property to the next.. This helps our seniors who are down sizing.
I'm a native, Two years ago I moved to jacksonville and I absolutely love everything that it offers. One thing I can say is not to live in the city proper.Go South near the St. John's county line, which is where a lot of new development is happening and it's beautiful, well maintained and I love the area.
Jacksonville isn't as nice as it used to be when the population was much lower but I don't it is as bad as places like Atlanta or Denver when it comes to traffic. While I am not as used to the heat and humidity as I used to be, the hot and humid months have their breaks, whether it be a breeze in the shade or a break from overcast in the afternoons. The trade off is a smile on my face wearing shorts and a tee shirt during winter as I think of our neighbors in brutally cold areas of our country. While there are parts of the country that have a balance of the 4 seasons, I think I am fine with 3 seasons and skipping winter. Fall is my favorite, followed by Spring, but even Summer can be nice.
I was one of those people who moved to FL during covid and remote work. I’m living in North Miami and am considering Jacksonville because of more affordable housing and being closer to the rest of the country versus being down in the south.
@@JoeVinson It has gone up quite a bit over the last 3 years.. We are seeing some flattening out of prices in certain parts of Jacksonville.. If you want to find a home for $250,000, they still exist.. Just may not be in the exact area you want to be in.
I live in chatt tn and was considering moving to jax, but after hearing about that racist mass shooting that happened down there im having second thoughts now
I understand your concerns. It was a tragic and deeply unsettling event. I have been in this area since 1994 and I can truly say it was an isolated incident and not a reflection of the entire Jax community. Many of us were shocked and heartbroken as it's not something we've experienced before. If you have any other questions or concerns about Jax, I'd be happy to help. Stay safe and take care.
American Homes 4Rent in Saint Augustine raised my rent from $2,395 to $2,630. After I complained they cut it by $80.00 to $2,550 but that's still too expensive so I offered to stay if they lowered the rent to $2,500 but they refused my offer and unbelievably also absolutely refused to allow me to transfer into a less expensive AMH home anywhere in Jacksonville telling me all transfers are on hold until April 2024 so I have to be out by the end of January. I think there are less expensive rental units in Saint Augustine. I reminded them that I was never a problem and not once was I late making my rent payment on line but it seems like they couldn't care less, greedy bastards ...........
I hate when the BIg Wall Street Hedgee funds pull this type of thing. That is why we are trying to get everyone we can into ownership so they no longer have to be at the mercy of the big corporate landlords.
Thanks for the neat video. I live in Traverse City, Michigan and am considering moving here. I'd like to be in a bigger city and take up surfing. It seems more affordable than some places with a lot to offer. When I was looking at rents it seems like there's a lot of options in the 900-1200 range for 2 bedrooms. Do you agree? Do you think it'll keep climbing and get out of control? Are snakes a big problem in regards to getting inside houses? I have bunnies. Also, I am a tattooed child-free 30-something...will I fit in? :)
I think you will love it here.. We have a very diverse population. The further away from the beach you move, the more affordable the rent. Snakes can be an issue if you are surrounded by a lot of green space or water/retention areas. Rents have stabilized over the last 12 months and we have more apartments being built. This will help create more competition for the rental market and bring prices down a little more.
Hubby and I visited Jax back in February and loved it! We live in Albuquerque, NM and can't wait to move. We are considering Jax because of the people and beaches. It was beautiful and the people were so super nice everywhere we went. We hate NM! Both of us have lived here our entire lives basically and for us, we sadly have experienced so much racism and horrible jobs. Its a beautiful state to visit or live if you are rich and dont need to make a living wage. Also if you are employed with the labs, you'll get good pay but basically its just poverty level. Bad schools. High crime per capita and the homelessness is starting to boom! When we say we've experienced racism, we are not native, Hispanic or Mexican. So, we get treated with disrespect for simply being "white". No matter how hard you ignore it, it gets frustrating to just 'fit in' no matter what. I know others may say its all perspective but our perspective has been bad experience after bad experience. Nepotism is huge in the employment here too. So yeah, visit NM but dont move here. Liberal rich love it here...that speaks for itself. 🤷♀️

The one thing I dislike about JAX is the gloomy weather, always cloudy and very little sunshine. All other aspects are very nice, but this is the Seattle of Florida.
In the summer my water bill is approx $150 and during the winter around $90.. As my kids get older and take longer showers, that bill is creeping up 😎😎😎..
Using the "weather" as an excuse to leave Jacksonville seems pretty lame. The vast majority of human beings worldwide live in the SAME conditions found in Jacksonville, Florida. Heat, storms, wind. Big deal. Grow a spine.
My Dad's whole family is from the Northeast and many have tried to move down here but they really struggled with the humidity here. The one's who came and stayed did it over about 5 years, going back and forth as snowbirds.

Just give us a call at (904) 637-7537 and we can find you something great! BTW, it is Feb 24th right now and the weather is 70 degrees :)
Jacksonville wages are notoriously low and strip clubs are insanely cheap (supply and demand for labor) most of the jobs are Navy, and their take home pay is very low because food and housing is included
Want to move for the better weather and doctors. I also miss living near the beach. We have been in Biloxi for about two months after leaving Fort Hood, Texas. Cant deal with the Texas heat anymore and thought it would be better to relocate closer to the Atlantic side. Also, my oldest grandsons has autism and i have read that there are many options for services there for autistic children.
I do not know why someone would take time to make a negative video about Jacksonville, Florida. People have reasons to move somewhere, job related or they do not like the snow or something. I have been living in Florida since 2004, I do not have a reason to move right now. I would say this: let people decide where they want to go.
Edna, I have been here for close to 30 years. I love it here. But we have a lot of people who are considering moving to Jacksonville or other parts of the Florida. I just want to give someone the pros and cons so they know what to expect.. Not sure if you finished the video, but the main reason why people leave is not because they want to, but they are getting relocated for work. The ones that leave Jax for non work related issues, normally stay in the area and move south to St Johns county..
Lived Jax beach most of my life. It was decent value / lifestyle up to 7-10 years ago. There are many better places to live in and out of FL for the money -with much nicer ocean water and better surf.

Thanks for watching.. Hope you were enjoyed it. Do you currently live in Jacksonville, considering moving to Jacksonville, or did you move from the area?
The main reason why people are leaving is because of the high crime rates. The people have lost in the honesty of JSO. Depending on which poll you choose between 48% to 54% of the residents of Duvall County don't trust the police. I have been calling Jacksonville as my home post since the early 50s. Leaving occasionally due to military orders. I can remember " Rex Sweat" and the Duvall County Road Patrol. In the early 70s there was an improvement, that has deteriorated. People are afraid to confide in the police because of the mistreatment that they have been subjected to!
@@floridacoastalteam-lptrealty its very true. They are voting in the next 24 hours to raise property taxes 40%. The Govenor wants Colorado to be just like CA. And we know CA is expensive everywhere.
What you said about California is just wrong. We have low property tax rates on avg. Our rates are half what you mentioned for Jacksonville and much of Florida (over 2%). Ours is just around 1%. The reason we pay a lot is because of higher property values. The actual percent is low.
Thanks for the comment and helping clarify. When we ask people about why they are moving to our area and they mention high property taxes, we don't normally see how expensive the home they are leaving is. What really helps our property taxes here is our homestead exemptions. This lowers the tax base by $50k or more. The other thing is that our taxes are normally based off the sales price x 85%. This gives the first "just valuation" that future taxes are based on vs just the straight purchase price.
I lived in Vermont for a few years and have a 2nd home there. Nice folks. I do find they are a little closed off compared to down here.. Just let us know when you are ready to make the jump :)
I moved to Jacksonville three years ago from Chicago for work. Jacksonville had potential but it’s a complete dump of a place. Downtown Jacksonville has less life than Detroit.
Income tax and the weather would be the reason since I’m originally from Brazil and I’m used to the same heat . Besides that the beach of course would be the reason to move there
Planning to move from Southern Indiana to Jax because of a job transfer, but the weather here is freeking hot in the summer and freezing in the winter, weather here suks year round and there is nothing to do here. I literally work 7 days a week and would rather do that then just be bored sitting at home.

Traffic is a nightmare, streets are cover with litter, public schools are in shambles. Homeless are everywhere. Starbucks even closed periodically to make the homeless move else where. I lived in San Marco, one of the better parts of town, 3 streets away from the mayor in fact. Lots of panhandling at every intersection. There is a liquor store or smoke shop on every corner. When I dropped my daughter off at middle school and a passing car backfired, every kid hit the ground that was outside covering their head. In my opinion, Jacksonville has dedicated their money towards the Jaguar’s team while neglecting the city. Please do you research online with crime statistics in Jacksonville! I moved to a city an hour away and was amazed of the difference in the quality of life! If you walk on Jax beach at night you will be robbed or worse. Beautiful historic churches are being leveled for affordable housing! on Friday and Saturday nights you can hear the gunshots downtown, that’s why the city installed gun shot detection devices throughout the city! Trust me, you will not miss the sticks if you move to this town!
Prices have gotten so out of control. Rent, Groceries, Auto Insurance, Auto Care, JEA bills are all insanely overpriced here for it to be Florida. The average person has no money left over for quality of life activities, or savings after paying those mandatory bills every month. No one's doing anything to help bring costs down for the residents, it's very sad. There's also a lot more fraud against residents going on here that there didn't use to be. The culture has changed alot. Do your research, create a cost analysis budget with what you're paying in your current city before you decide to move here to make sure it's going to be a good move for you. Prices are only going up. Jacksonville is huge, so factor in daily commuting, traffic, gas, mileage expenses also. Good luck.
Great comment Christa.. Research is the key. We are hoping that inflationary prices will bring back down the overall cost of living. Unless we get a huge influx of inventory, home prices will continue to increase.. Last year, in a down year for transactions, prices went up by almost 4%.

Mr Snow, I just discovered your channel and I want to let you know I appreciate that you are willing to address reasons people might leave the area you sell property in. Most realtors try to portray their local area as a utopia and it is always 'the time to buy'. Thank you for the straightforward assessment as I believe it is valuable for someone who is considering a move to the Jax area. There was only one thing I noticed and that was at 5:05 in the video there was a clip of palm trees in the wind. The trees were Royal Palms and they do not grow in Jacksonville. Still, nice job and thank you for being so up front.

Re water bills, mine more than doubles if I have to run sprinklers and I’m very conservative in how long I run.
Don't agree with you. It's actually really nice at night in this area. Very pleasant to be outdoors. Everyone here runs their sprinklers TOO MUCH and inefficiently and that's why their water bills are high. I take cold showers and wash in cold water most of the year because there is NO NEED to use hot water here most of the year.
I grew up in North Central Florida and it is much hotter there than here in Jax/St Augustine. The people who move here from outside of the Southeast and then move out of the area, they always comment on how hard it was to acclimate to the humidity.
@@floridacoastalteam-lptrealty Anywhere on east coast is humid although I lived in Tampa too and I could swear that although Jax is not as hot, it’s more humid. Yes, water is very expensive here. Getting worse. Everyone is paying the higher prices for the hurricanes since Irma or before. Taxes are going up. Sales tax is very high. Homelessness is a thing now. Affordable housing used to exist for seniors. Not really anymore. I came back after several years. Florida is a land of water, building homes is poorly managed. Flooding has become way more extreme. I never used to see floods years ago. Lighting can be frightening. Florida is the lighting and tornado capitol of US. I have to teach this in science as I am a teacher. Sometimes you read of people struck dead in broad daylight from lightning. Weather can be dangerous.
Most of your assessment is right but friendliness you’re wrong jacksonville has some of the rudest people in the country and medical is hands down one of the worst. There’s another big one but I rather not to open that door
Thank you for mentioning safety and lower wages, those are important points. My concern with Orlando is that its job market is mostly hospitals, schools and hospitality industry, which highly depend on tourists. I work in finance, so I was thinking of Tampa or Jacksonville, as businesses have been moving to these 2 cities recently.
Thanks so much for the comment. We try to be transparent about the good and the bad of living here. Many people start their search in Jacksonville and end up in the surrounding areas like St Augustine, Orange Park/Fleming Island, or a little further south like Palm Coast. The greater Jacksonville area does have a great big/small town feel. We are not congested like the Tampa Area.. If you need some more guidance, give us a Call/Text: 904.637.7537.
Sorry for any confusion. I was giving some reasons from past customers who moved back North. But a majority of the people who are moving from Jax are going about 10 miles south into St Johns County.
I moved here to Jax FL for a pro poker career years ago, lost everything, and have been trying ever since to get enough money to move back home or to Vegas. I cant stand Florida.
We moved from Rochester NY mainly due to crime and bail reform. There's multiple other reasons like housing and corrupt landlords but unfortunately a lot of the same down here. I can definitely say Jacksonville is a much better community then Rochester I'd also rather have a republican conservative governor who also focuses governing on protecting our youth. Governor Desantis isn't perfect nobody is but he's done a fine job governing for the people of Florida.
Thanks for sharing why you moved. We have worked with many customers who have moved for the same reason.. Unfortunately, there is no perfect place to live, so we have to take the good with the bad. I have lived all but 2 years of my life in Florida. I have had many chances to move away, but this is home.. And I love the Jacksonville and St Augustine area. Not too big, not too small..
Nice.. Correct. The people that are leaving Jacksonville are staying in the area and moving to St Johns County. The other folks moving are the military who are changing duty stations.
Sometimes the media will take a number and not give you any context to that number. We do have people moving, but most are staying in the local area. The majority of those moving are military, not people who don't like the area..
thanks for the honest feedback. I have done in office and in the field videos. To date, the office videos have had the most engagement from my audience, so I try to make more of what people are consuming. I will be doing more neighborhood tours this year but will continue to mix in the office videos.
