Why Everyone Loves the CESSNA 182 SKYLANE
From the iconic Cessna 172 to the multi-purpose and classic Cessna 182, the company has produced some of the friendliest and most famous aircraft that everyone loves. Talking about 182 Skylane, was introduced in 1956 and has been produced in many variants, including a version with retractable landing gear. It is the second-most popular Cessna model still in production after 172. At sports awards, there’s a trophy for “Best All-Around Performance,” signifying an individual who excelled in nothing but always finished near the top in many disciplines. If there were such a prize handed out for aircraft design, then 182 Skylane would undoubtedly win it.

The video forgets to mention that the 182 is the plane of choice for small drop zones. probably has been more skydiving done from a 182 than any other plane.

buddy had an RG none turbo, sexy as hell, but bought a t182t wich he said was actually faster than the RG at altitude not to mention the garmin g1000.

The 182 Skylane is the Honda Accord of light aircraft. It’s the best all-around light aircraft you can fly. Get the Turbo for top speed.

Van Bortle can put you in one with a written contract and remember that there are still more other options available to buy the used ones with mid time TTAF and possibly a low time SFRM engine and no damage history and complete new upgrades such as avionics or pay over $500 k for a new 2023 182 . I just signed up for flying lesson start time aug 21 so forgive me for my elementary question. At 1100 useable load does not seem 182 is a true 4 passenger plane ie: 75 gal fuel is 525lbs that gives me 575 lbs left. That would leave me with 2) 200lb male 1) 135lb female leaves me with 45lbs left. And if I want to carry a suit case I really cannot carry anything significant if I want to camp in the back country or just visit someone with my 3 passengers. So am I looking at owning an airplane of 182 size plane just for a joy ride around my home area with 3 passengers? And if I want to go for a bushcraft camping I will have to get a 206 or larger? Am I looking at formula correctly. You talk about missions on your other videos, I assume that is pilot lingo for what I am going to use the plane for.? Please respond. Thanks

@willhaynie9684 I'd say that the 182 is a real 4 passenger plane while the 172 is a 2+2 passenger plane (2 adults + 2 children).

100LL fuel only weight 6.02 lbs per gallon, so there's 75 gallons difference right there. 75 gal fuel weighs 451.5 lbs. Also, useful load is typically closer to 1200lbs. That technically gives you closer to 750 lbs of useful load with 75 gal fuel.

Half of the airplanes shown in the video are not the 182 or even Cessnas-very distracting. The “narrator” is reading from a script and may even be a computer-generated voice; as judged by odd phraseology and pronunciation “he” is likely not a pilot or even familiar with the subject. Not mentioned at all is the wide variety of aftermarket STC’d modifications that are available, including much more powerful engines. As a pilot with more than 1400 hours in the Cessna 182 I was very disappointed in this video.

Too bad the 172 has a split going down in the back windows, that doesn’t make it omnivision like the 182. This is one of many reasons why the 182 is my dream plane.

not to mention it will climb without reluctance on takeoff where the 172 needs to catch its breath after rotation before finally heading skyward.

This would be a great video if you used a human narrator instead of the cheap computer voice. You are really degrading your video and making it painful to listen to with the robo voice.
