As someone who tried to qualify for F1 Esports back in 2021 and risked nearly failing grade 8 because of how much time i had put into it, i spent most of my days driving and probably drove for more than 30 hours a week just to qualify, but after in 2022 we could already see the cracks forming with Esports and irl. I want to count myself lucky for not being old enough to qualify, but at the same time the amount of time the drivers in F1 Esports have put in to even get within a tenth of the wr times consistantly is mind blowing and then on top of that the teams and development drivers as well who - as you've said, have sacrificed their livelihoods and education to even be in this position. F1 has been a joke and disgrace of a sport ever since the pandemic, like Max said, it's 99% entertainment 1% sport. Same with F1 Esports although be it 99.99% "profit on what we already make 105% more than" 0.01% racing or care for the fans as the drivers are basically doing all the promoting now.

The biggest issue right now for F1 esports is there isn’t an ambassador for it. The biggest reason the Coca Cola nascar iracing series exist is because of dale Earnhardt jr. He is a huge ambassador for it and that really helps. I don’t think F1 understands how many people got into f1 simply because of people like Jarno and aarava and even you.

Agreed on the loss of passion with F1. I still enjoy playing on good F1 games, especially working through a career mode and well run leagues, but I find myself increasingly less and less interested in real life F1. And this latest fiasco with eSports just shows the calibre of the people in charge of F1/FOM

Is it too unrealistic to suggest that f1 esports be integrated into the actual f1 calendar? For example every third or fourth irl race an esports event is hosted during the weekend in the city in which the Grand Prix is hosted. This means the esports drivers can possibly travel with their respective teams and maybe even help the irl teams. Also the attraction from the actual event might increase the viewership for esports and hence a higher return of investment.

I feel like the F1 teams should step in. They have much more power than the drivers. Each driver has contacts and contracts with each team. Idk I just want them to revive F1 esports. Pissing me off that they are treating it only as a means of profit rather than another way to create large amount of sentiment for the F1 brand in the online section.

There is already a great blueprint on how to build your brand and ensure long term returns, Red Bull. There is no way they make profit on every event they have put on. Crashed Ice, Air Racing and even more fringe stuff like Soapbox Races. They put their name on anything cool and focus on building a brand culture with a very wide scope, even if they take some small losses in the short term. It's a problem with the entire worldwide corporate landscape, not just F1 and Esports. Everything is about making maximum profit as quickly as possible, no matter how much it damages the long term image. I don't know where things go from here but, It cant be anywhere good.

there is no ROI on simracing esports, barely anyone watches it. Event if its fun to watch sometimes, it just hasn't got the same appeal as those games engineered for fun like MOBAs or real motorsports. Even the not quite as known real motorsports series have so little viewership compared to F1

I use to love F1 the game, then i tried Iracing for a month, wil NEVER go back to F1. F1 is not real enough, real racer want proper sim platforms in my opinion... In my country 90% of the real car racers at our local racetrack would also rather choose iracing over F1..... Some people prefer close to real life experience over good Graphics

F1 keep pushing me away since I’ve been a fan(circa drive to survive in the USA) love the sport but this is just more drama on the pile. Andretti, e-sports, Vegas, it’s going to fall apart for them. I own a pizzeria and occasionally we give pizza away to help, redeem and promote. I’m surprised they find it that hard to make a little less than they would like to continue the great path they started.

I do feel that there is a reality here that is being ignored. Maybe not intentionally but it's being ignored. That is that for a multi billion dollar empire like F1, the Esports sector is just not big enough. Like the actual F1 series, the Esports world is for rich kids. Most of the gear used by the drivers is completely inaccessible to the regular kid who wants to get into this. It's not like the real cars where there's actual races to go to and 4 day, massive events. The most appealing factor about Esports is the fact that it's a video game and that appeals to a massive generation. The problem with that, is those kids that are watching it, can't even begin to afford what Ronhaar and the like use. Most can't afford a Logitech entry level wheel. So they're losing interest. Which means less viewership, less money and less incentive for F1 to put anything towards it. End of the day F1 esports is the same as the real F1. It's a game for the rich kids. Just without the cars, tracks and drivers and with tens of thousands of dollars worth of similar gear. Also one more thing, if you're giving up jobs, university and other things that provide a secure future in the name of chasing a dream, you deal with the outcome of that decision. That's the risk behind throwing everything into doing what you love. I know this from experience.

I find it disturbing no matter how bad it is that liberty are that uncaring and cold about their sports esport... Las Vegas IRL and this esports thing show maybe a dark future for the whole F1 thing...not just esports but the sport...it can die out super fast,liberty media aren't some super serious company like people think, actually Bernie was more of a safe pair of hands

People need to stop playing this game. Stop pre-ordering the copied and pasted BS they shell out every year. Stop financially coughing up for piss poor content and developer support. eSports drivers should look to greener pastures of actual sims out there and flood that player pool with their fast twitch talents in GT3 cars or something. ACC or iRacing. Codemasters, EA, and F1 all do not give a fuck about you. Just dollar signs. It's been blatant for years but people are dumb now and keep buying this nonsense. How do these teams and drivers not have a contact they can even reach out to in order to get some answers? Are they just not publicly tweeting at them asking? Why not? It's funny that you said FOM don't think they'll get enough of a return on investment.. It doesn't seem like they do anything or spend any money on anything other than the Venue they keep trying to postpone or cancel (side note, if they reserved a space for something like this at a convention center and they cancel the day prior they are certainly getting charged for the space regardless of if they use it at that point). With the effort they're putting in, of course they're going to lose money on it.

My passion for playing F1 has dwindled significantly due to the unfortunate approach taken in the game's development. It has been rather disheartening, much like FOM's excessive focus on profit. As one of the individuals who organized two consecutive Polish Championship Finals on LAN, the experience was truly exceptional. FOM has yet to grasp the immense opportunity they are overlooking.

100% agree with your thoughts, the game is where the rot starts. I have been playing F1 games since back in the day on the ZX Spectrum (LOL yes i'm that old) and ever since the last great F1 game (2018) it has gone down and down and down. Judging by just the play hours i've done, F12023 is the least i've played. Considering how much money these games cost, it's sad that Codemasters still have the licence, they shouldn't. Love watching your content mate, keep it coming.

Cool 2 of my teammates representing X_ESports in X_Finlay and Luca_Ripassa. Let's Goooooo. But yeah I started watching F1 eSports when David Tonizza won the title. And it seems it was good for a few years and has gone downhill from there. This has been a big part of my life bc it helps with my depression and has become a passion to race ppl. But I'm fearing it's getting close to the end. And that hurts.

For me the biggest issue is online experience for some one who doesn’t stream, the connectivity is very very bad i cant even play a normal race, so I decided to not buy any f1 game, the problems are getting bigger and the company don’t care about it, by the way my internet is good, and the problem is in the game, they see people purchase the game and thats it, sorry my English is bad 😊

I might comment further but all I can say now is the writing was pretty much on the wall the moment there was a lack of announcement or, worse still, a lack of a calendar. I know you published one but I understand it was unofficial. Also, during these past weeks the f1esports Instagram account got the "blue checkmark" and now it doesn't feature it. That tells a lot, IMHO.

Considering there was some kind of issue about drivers getting money, If F1 can show that nobody is watching it, then they can have evidence as to why they shouldn't pay these esports teams and drivers. At least not as much. F1 will artificially lower viewing numbers just to show everyone theat these teams and drivers aren't "worth" as much.

I've been playing for 3 years now. I'm not elite but I'm top 3%-5% in all track time trials. The esports aspect of this aside, what's disheartening is we keep getting essentially the same game every year with very minor changes. I'm considering moving to AC or IR next year because it's getting dull. All this recent stuff just adds to the dullness of it.

I don't think F1 should have a eSports scenario, the game rotten since this F1 eSports push started We lost so much game mechanics in the last 3 years so the tryhards can have a playground, just let the game be what it was in 2019-2020 fun simple stable I think we reached the crossover point where it will never be a nice simple game, it will go the Fortnite FIFA route, more and more complex, more hardcore, more sweaty until is inaccessible for us who play league racing once a week

Im really bad at games at general but Im F1 fan since 1998 and enjoyed watching the e-sport series. But its like rral F1 more and more entertainment and money than the competitive sport. Hope the E-sport drivers can find a way to get their bills payed and show off their talent once again in the future

The game is fine. But in terms of interest, the new WRC game seems more popular right now. That will never go anywhere in terms of online competition either. The real WRC is in dire straits right now as well. So playing on a PC has no chance

In my opinion, the f1 game should be only 1 game, that would make things much easier to do such as developing a better physics of the game, improving graphics and stuff. Launching it yearly just make the game much of the same, like from f1 22 to f1 23 there is not much of a difference. Of course if you compare f1 23 to f1 2018 for example there will be a lot of a difference because its 5 years of developing between the 2 games. Also you would hit the free to play public, like trackmania 2020 where you have some free content but to have online competitions for example you have to pay it yearly.

Im new to F1 as a whole but very much a long time of esports thru many titles. The issue with esports is it doesnt bring in money. The teams individually normally barely make money to survive while participating in month long seasons of certain titles. In NA specifically many orgs have closed down or downsized since they just dont sell product or produce revenue to keep the lights on. Those issues im assuming apply quite a bit to the F1 esports scene but also the FOM copywriting videos and also taking revenue and shutting down tournaments doesnt make sense thats just scummy as a whole since they arent making any money (which makes sense why they cancel events and such). IDK how any issues can really be based off the devs unless the development company is the one that is pushing for the esport and setting up events that are setup to fail. That would just be give the ip to someone else who can build an esport around a title

Codemasters made the game too fast and basicly copied the last years game with some track changes very minimal and reworked physics i think but i think they make the game just to catch the esport season like leave enough space so the driver can prepare themselfs and if esport where to get deleted and we will have good game again then it should at the end of the day we all want gaming overall not just the f1 game who has esports to be good

Absolutely disapoointed and angry! I am a new fan of F1. In fact a self confessed DTS victim :) who fell in love with F1 after the 2021 season. Since then I have watched every qualifier every race and sometimes even the practice sessions. I installed the F1 22 game in Oct 2022 and have played a lot since then. I introduced myself to the F1 esports series this year and have watched a lot of streams. It has been absolutely a trip!! All the close races and the entertainment especially with all the cheating scandals and all. I was really looking forward to this year's series and it promised a lot after the first event especially with Ronhaar's 'In your face' performance. and then this happens. Fuck those assholes in FOM!! They havent raced a day in their lives. They are just there with their fancy MBA degrees and ruining the sport for us! But love your content mate, I am a big follower. Keep it coming!

What a shame. I bet it’s all because of some junior manager at FOM trying to impress his bosses to get promoted or something. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case. Because I would find it surprising if the top management at FOM are involved at all in esports questions. It’s probably not prioritised that high in their organisation unfortunately. But high enough to make the junior employees squeezing out as much money as possible. Nevertheless, sad story. Regarding the F1 game license needing to go to another developer, I mean hey, they don’t develop the game for the esports leagues primarily. It’s primarily a game for the wider audience. If it’s not good enough for F1 league racing, which indeed I would agree with, then F1 league racing could just jump to another sim I guess? What I’m trying to say, it’s a bit too much to ask that a game development should be driven primarily from the needs of league racing, which is 0.001% of the user group in the end, or something tiny like that.

maybe if it was treated😂 like a sim championship instead of an arcade game then the powers that be might take it more seriously. When so called drivers are driving around sitting on top of the airbox instead of in the cockpit, how can this be taken seriously as a sim championship. Tighten up the rules during races, have proper monetary and points penalties and fines for bad driving, force cockpit view in every session. Follow the real F1 season with race tracks and dates. FOM are a joke and maybe it is all about profit but at least get it looking and feeling like a genuine simulation with high skill sim racers instead of a bunch of arcade players sitting on top of airboxes with unrealistic views while driving. Then the real sim drivers with the real talent will rise to the top and be worthy champions.

Idk why this is even an eSports title? Its a game and not a good one. They really just have to do it for the license I guess? Imagine they would do that in iRacing. Everyone in the W13. 10x better racing and its really a simulator.

Honesty they just need to give the F1 license to iRacing already. People might care about F1 esports if it was an actual simulation that replicates real life. F1 has a way bigger fan base than all types of esports combined. F1 is the esport that can most closely resemble the real thing. We should let it be a showcase for just how incredibly good sim racing has become!!! The drivers should use VR and be on full motion rigs. F1 esports just looks like someone playing an old cartoony video game from an unrealistic POV, with unrealistic physics that make real F1 drivers literally find the game unplayable. Real F1 fans will never care about it as long as it remains just a video game.

Thats the problem. People quit school, people stop working. Just to play 10 hours of f1 a day. When did the world became such a dumb place to be. Het a real job instead of putting fate in a video game. Pretty sure if i put in 10 hours a day i can become a driver aswell. But i choose to stay focused in school and work. So why do i have to feel sorry for them now? Playing and qualifying for e sports is at your own risk. Nobody saying you have to give up all your life just to have a change at price money. But i guess you RU-vidrs already got money way to easy, so now when its made harder you start crying.

It doesn't have the most potential out of all the eSports because it's 1:1 with the real thing. If you are using the 'real thing' as your basis for credibility then you'll always be overshadowed by the real thing. Growth will be limited, as evidenced by this mess. This isn't like CS:GO where that exists in its own 'fantasy' world. This has always been the fundamental weakness of sim racing eSports.

FOM they don’t even advertise and post anything of f1 esport in F1 IG, suddenly changed its name to F1simracing event and f1 esport official website not longer update anymore . They just don’t give a fuck to this game and its potential, f1 game just got more good reviews in steam this year , game is making process slowly tho but FOM do shit and handed the game to ESL held the event ?IDK but it’s a joke f1 esport is drifting away more like now ,If they don’t wanna held the event in LAN due cost , just hand it to PSGL and improve PSGL stewards. I’m very sadly for the drivers they been practicing on this game and league racing very long time but maybe now they’re gonna face to jobless 😢
