Stability is boring, but people don't appreciate the stability of a country unless they've lived in one that isn't. One can have peace of mind to think about what they want to achieve in life without worrying about the safety and reliability of environmental factors such as infrastructure/crime/etc.

Of course, Singapore is having its own challenges at the global level, facing climate change, political insecurity… but yes down at our level, we can just focus on making the better choices!

Hi Amandine, Yes now a day is not easy to land a job in Singapore.

Yes, I’ve been monitoring the job market and only high skilled jobs are available but the competition is fierce!

I love Singapore, but unfortunately, Singapore doesn’t want to give PR if you are not Chinese. So, I applied to Australia and got PR. I’m planning to move soon.

Getting PR in Singapore is hard because they have to make a choice based on the availability which is limited! Glad you get to start a new journey in Australia!

Hi Amandine I have been living in Europe for 45 years... Singapore is a great place to live..... safe clean and foodie...... Europe is fading....not safe drug users and dealers are everywhere and lots of crime....😢😢😢😢😢

Yes, Europe is not going in a good direction - many conflicts! Hope it gets resolved somehow! Still wanna be proud of being French!

That's a mischaracterisation and gross over-generalisation. Europe is much, much better than you describe.

Don't really understand why Amandine would apply for Singapore PR. At the end of the day, France is a better country to work, raise a family, retire. There really is no contest between the two....
@NewtoSingapore
@NewtoSingapore Месяц назад
That's not my point of view - everyone likes different things and looks forward to other things in life! For example, I find working in Singapore more interesting and challenging!

@@NewtoSingapore When you get older you will understand what I'm talking about. I grew up in Singapore and love it to bits. In fact I would love to move back for a while. Are there industries/companies where Singapore is at the cutting edge like France? France has quite a few multinationals that have cutting edge technology. I can't think of any in Singapore....That's why most STEM graduates in Singapore end up in finance. As a French citizen, if you don't like France you can easily move to other EU countries. I have a French friend who moved to Denmark, and is doing R & D in offshore wind. With a Singapore passport or PR status you cannot easily move to say Korea or Japan....

Singapore is only a bank, otherwise, the government boards. Those are the two job options there.
@lunazero433

I think that the main reason foreigners are having to leave is that too many foreigners are trying to get in so the all those who are seen as less desirable by the government are forced out.
@NewtoSingapore
@NewtoSingapore Месяц назад
From my experience, it's more because of personal reasons: family, and cost of living... than "government is forcing them out"

Singapore is a wonderful country but I dislike : 1) high car prices 2) stressful place to work. Many citizens probably need to work till death because of high cost of living

This is something i disagree with the government of Singapore. For all the great things the Singapore government have accomplished, the hard decisions and correct decisions they have made with foresight thus far, this is one they got wrong. Very wrong. Limiting foreign talents into Singapore to pander to the locals smacks of populist decision, an easy way out which will eventually backfire on the entire nation. No great country thrives on protectionist policies especially one with such a small population and with declining birthrates. Its almost putting a nail in their own coffin. What you will end up with is a population that is pampered, weak and unable to compete at a global stage while struggling with declining population, making it a turn off for foreign investors. Increasingly many MNC have decided to relocate out of Singapore and many have decided to drop Singapore as a destination of their expansion plans. With nothing rely on, it will ultimately, in a worse case scenario, lead to the demise of Singapore. Sad but these are hard turths.

I think Singapore is resilient, hope they will foresee any politics that are going against the well-being of its population and growth 👐

Not every foreigner is a foreign talents so limiting foreigners isn't limiting foreign talent. Real foreign talents are able to easily get pr and citizenship and live comfortably. The reason most foreigners are finding it difficult to stay is that they aren't valuable enough for the government to want to keep them, and there are a lot more others who can take their place if they decide to leave. Those that are valuable won't have any trouble staying forever.

@@lunazero433 beggars can't be choosers. You are describing the cream of the crop. Those have choices and they would have gone to US or UK to expand their horizon. Singapore on the other hand is faced with talent crunch and declining population. If the government do not take active steps to address it Singapore will fade into oblivion.

Many foreign talents are overrated and overpaid. They should accept local terms, no special treatment.

SG needs to bring in workers as the locals don't want to think. Ironically it's because the locals were raised in a nanny-state - the government has planned their citizens lives out for them already.
