And...this game also seriously needs AI for land-based carnivores. As it is, when the server population drops during off hours, the carnivores just starve. It's effen annoying.
I use to design maps long ago. I did mostly FPS and strategy games. Have not done so in years, but i would make a map for this game if the tools are there and somewhat easy to use. Wouldn't even want any money for it. I can totally see myself spending a thousand hours to make the perfect map for this game just for fun. Would probably do a better job than them. Maybe that's what they fear the most. It would highlight how bad they themselves are at map design if someone would make a better map just for fun and totally for free, than they do spending a couple million dollars for the so called "experts designers". It's like the new generation of map designers don't even understand the basics anymore. It's not just this game. It's with most games these days. Map design has taken a nosedive the last 15 years or so. I doubt they even really play video games themselves sometimes. It's like game play has become an afterthought.
@@benanders4412 I mean gateway is already a perfect, I don't see how there would be any flaws with it. It isn't extremely massive like spiro where we aren't people a portion of the map, so fps dies. Also Jace is working on gateway, and he's actually a really good map designer, Dondi was the one who made Spiro, which is why they had to hire Jace to make a whole new one since Spiro was really bad.

@@iAzwrath Calling Spiro bad is a understatement. It's absolutely horrible map design. As for gateway, it's too soon for me to have a final judgement. I have not seen enough to write it off. Some things I've seen look good. But looking good or bad isn't the biggest issue with map design. You can always fix the cosmetics of a map without much trouble. Problems with the layout are far harder to correct, because you have to redesign the whole map or a large portion of it. A map being large can be a good thing, but it doesn't have to be. People like large maps because they like to explore. And because it gives the player the feeling of freedom. This will however give problems when there are not enough players to fill the space. Walking around for an hour without interaction can get boring. So as you increase map size, so should the player count in games like these. And with size and player count come performance issues. This can somewhat be solved by forcing people into choke points. But that would defeat the purpose of having a large map, because all the action will be concentrated anyway. The only bad thing about gateway that I've already seen is dead map space. Parts that have to be loaded in but are not used. This will be bad for performance. But my biggest concern is that i have not seen anything great yet. Things do really look much better already. I think navigating this map will be a far better experience. But nothing strikes me as "great". I,m sure it will be fun to explore. But that doesn't keep people entertained long term. If you want to see great map designing, i advice you to look at the map "Dust 2" from counter strike. It wasn't a large map. It wasn't a great looking map. It wasn't a really complicated map. But people spend thousands of hours on that map without it getting boring. And it was balanced and fair for both sides. That's what makes a great map. When people keep coming back no matter how many times they played it. And every time feels like a unique and different experience. I think the new generation of map designers is too focused on how it looks. This will help sell it to the public. Helps them make money. But it says very little about the design itself. The sense of awe and wonder will wear off pretty fast. Game play is what makes people come back.
Don’t forget they didn’t give you guys the full map earlier this year when y’all got to play gateway. Also they are reworking gateway to work without migrations, so it will be interesting to see how hotspots work at first.
I do think humans would ruin the game, at least in a way that it would transform the game into something else completely than it is now. I'm sure there is a market for a game like that. But i think most people who play the game now will not enjoy it. They will probably lose most of the player base they have right now. But they will attract new people looking for a different type of game. Witch might be their plan from the beginning. It's like they can recycle the game and sell it twice to two totally different audiences. Maybe they can keep most players if they allow servers to disable everything human connected, and they give some map making tools so that people can design maps without human infrastructure that uses up most processing power. Because peoples computers are going to have a hard time loading all that stuff in. I would focus on limiting assets to make the game run better. But because humans use tools and interact with stuff, the number of complicated assets is going to explode. Causing all sorts of new troubles. While they have not even fixed most of the bugs that exist now. Each his own, but i wouldn't want to play this game with humans in it. I would play a totally different game if i was looking for that type of game play. And i personally think the game could have been almost twice as far in development if they didn't waste so much time and money prepping for humans. It's far more work and time consuming to ad humans and all the assets they interact with, than let say ad another 50 different dinosaurs. And you could have twice as many players on one server without all those assets sucking up the processing power. So yes. I think it will ruin it for most of "the isle" players. It might be a goldmine or a total flop for the developers depending on how smooth it runs and how they market this new version of the game. They might be able to attract mostly young boys and men who just like to shoot dinosaurs and want to see people be bitten in two. But those type of players don't normally stick around long. So it's probably an explosion of new players, and then it dies a couple months later.

@@benanders4412 Fair but small nitpicks, Even if they were to never spent resources on humans it would do nothing to speed up development; nor impact budget as one: they are worked on by a separate team (very small at that) and two: Dondi is loaded in cash. And remember how people thought organs would make the game unplayable before release? Yea same thing with guns and ammunition placements; it's not gonna be doing much. Anyway to each their own, I wouldn't want to sound like a cunt by trying to persuade you into liking the addition of humans so I won't bore you with that, just know that I like many others are looking forward to the absolute suffering that is human gameplay in The Isle. Im pretty sure spiro was just a placeholder map they made it to get ppl playing the game and trying the dinos they add thats why its not really thought out, more of a map that was made for the beta evrima until gateway comes out witch will make evrima the primary server and makes legacy the "old" "beta" server of the isle not the main server anymore
Can't wait to see how Gateway feels and plays in game, especially once we get other playables in the future like rugops and sauropods (those specifically because I'm prob going to play them a lot, mostly sauropods).
Yep, while gondwa has a lot of biome, it doesnt give you the feelings that you can feel on gateway, like for ex in pot you are like: oh im in great plains, nice now i have to pick up nuts, wow im in a burnes forest, very nice coal i see over there. While in gateway you feel like if you are there, the lighting is amazing btw and thats a great factor
Gateway is the only thing the isle devs have done well so far in Evrima (assuming it comes out) Spiro is the most assfart map that’s ever existed in the survival genre. But that’s what happens when you don’t have a map dev. Fortunately they hired a new one a while ago and they do good work so gateway W

Agreed with a lot said here and also, for me personally it feels like Spiro is very under detailed and it doesn't look very well when the current model of dinosaurs walk through the world. Our models look so amazing and detailed and they're immersive, while the world isnt and feels like a box to run around in. Gateway feels and looks so in tune with the models. It looks like it's from a dinosaur documentary and sure there are some areas to clean up but all the efforts are going to gateway for map corrections, which makes me hopeful that Gateway will be helping the Isle's future quite a lot!
I'm extremely excited for Gateway, it's going to keep players busy for at least a month, minimum, bc everyone is going to be learning the map again and trying to figure out how to survive
Gateway will definetly have a big impact, and that along with migration will definetly spice things up in terms of gameplay. Nesting for example, that mechanic not only is fun but it also can make you keep playing the game as it gives you something to do instead of just killing stuff everytime. And activities to do in the game is definetly needed, and i would think migration is gonna play a role in this aswell. Maybe not as big as nesting did, but certainly a lot as it gives an incentive to move around the map: exploring, which gives you something to do whilst moving to the migration location. Not only that, but doing that will also always lead you to the location you had to go to anyways to get a perfect diet. Perhaps with migration, you also gotta keep a keen eye out on when exactly you want to nest as the migration switches always happen. For utah for example if the migration switch switches to a biome next to you, if you go there inmediatly you can nest and know for sure you will not run out on food oppertunities as your diet prey's will move there aswell. I would think if you try to nest by some plains biome and the migration location is swamp, you will not see your diet prey's around your spot.

I hate how long night is in the isle now so i have stopped playing it its longer than daytime i timed it and night lasts 45 mins i cant play it like this.

Higher server player limit and consistent performance are necessary for Gateway to accomplish anything. Client side and server side performance remains abysmal on official servers.
Game needs more than a map. This is going to be huge space for 150-200 players. What happens when you have less than 100 players? This is going to be a beautiful walking simulator in between hotspots. Game needs weather, anti mixpacking and overpacking mechanics, and a proper dino roster so everything has its niche with some cross competition. I guess the game is just feeling a bit dry these days. It wants to be the serious survival game but there’s just nothing to do and you get the typical gameplay of bored people in hotspots with half of the limited dino roster barely being played. Rant over fingers crossed.
@@dinnersam2121 when did I say they should rush gateway? Seriously, read what I said because I never said they should release it before its in a good spot and even still the devs have already been spending a ton of time on the map so it shouldnt be that buggy atm anyways.
In my experience in gateway it was honesty the most fun ive had in the isle. Seeing all the different areas in the map and the attention to detail was all so overwhelming. Im my opinion this map is better than any other dino maps our there. Also amazing video! Loved that fight qe had qith those tenos even tho I broke my leg lol
Really excited for gateway myself, just hoping that it's not too mountainous. Because fighting on sloped terrain or getting stuck on rocks and stuff kinda sux.
One thing I think as a human aspect wich would be amazing would be if a human rather than get a gun for killing Dino’s they should get a tranq gun wich allows them to tranq Dino’s and place a tracker on them. It would be kinda cool if you could use a gps/phone like in hunter call of the wild and see where the Dino you Tages is currently running around in. Also with the human strucktures I think a kinda looting aspect would be way more interesting where you can loot for resources such as a gun and maybe ammo this would also reduce the chances of some one who is salty to spawn as a human and directly kill you with their gun. Tbh I don’t know how I feel about guns that could kill Dino’s make me feel but I do love the idea of having tranq guns and trackers.
I just hope there's more NPC/Ai things running around for new players to try and eat. My first two hours in game on a 100 player server, i didn't see ANYTHING. Nothing. No players, no Ai. I didn't even know fish were a thing until i fell off a cliff and came back as a deino. It's just a big empty world.
for sure it would be nice ^^ but when ?? and did the little players with bad PC will be able to play ? right now it's horrible, ping and all is broken as fuc***, so with this gorgeous map it will be unplayable....... badly for us.... really hope devs will fix the ping and fps issues, so many bugs for a game like that..... not good at all .... let's hope i'm wrong, and gateway will be easy to play.

Do you think the performance is better on gateway. Spiro ran around 30-45 fps everywhere except for spawn there my fps go down to 10 completely locking out the biggest hotspot for me. I hope that won't be a problem on gateway. Would love to get ur feedback on that and nice video kepp it up 😊
Thank goodness someone else thinks Spiro is just plain bad. I'm sure it had a purpose, like testing water dinos, but for game play, it just stinks. I have to say though, I am still a sucker for the Isle V3 map. And I miss the giant red-wood forest; that was really cool when it was a thing.
Honestly - I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not a playtester so I haven't played on the map yet - but from what I've seen from screenshots and early access footage, it's still suffering from many of the same problems Spiro has. Still too needlessly big for 200-player server, not nearly enough biome variety going on, an over-abundance of hillsides and ledges which will likely make traversal & hunts a tedious experience due to fear of legbreak, the majority of the foliage sharing similar shades of green which makes it difficult to discern the distance and scope of an area, forests and jungles still looking too dense and vision-impairing for their own good, and so on. I hope I'm proven wrong, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.
At the very least rivers and lakes look hell of a lot better. I really like how the giant lake looks surrounded by mountains. Still I hope modding for maps can be put out sometime. Would love a desert map thats very easy on performance and it would be a much different experience from the grasslands and jungles.
6:17 punch said gateway no longer needs migrations to function they made it so it could be used with and with out (so its easier to mod things in the future) im curious as to how this actually works tho i feel it must be some sort of simple system that forces players to move around and when u turn on migration it turns off that simple system
I will say it does feel a bit off that we are getting a comparison between gateway and spiro because the gateway we have now is considered outdated to the devs. Although I doubt much will change with the current gateway we know, it’s not going to be as built around the migration update as it was before. Human is just a horror experience, all I know is there giving a shotgun to human but that won't really do much to a large dinosaur so people who keep saying "humans are overpowering" those people don't know how guns work so its like 50/50 human and dinosaur[depends on Specices] the people who keep saying that humans will be overpowered act like there adding nukes for humans

while I dont subscribe to the idea of "humans would ruin the isle" I also dont like the concept of "well the game was meant to be this way so it'll be good this way" in my honest opinion Humans being a part of the core experience from the start or atleast planned doesnt mean they will be good or fit in..
spiro feels entirely AI generated. Nothing feels like it was made by hand, and it just feels like a handful of 'biomes' if you can even call them that were put into a random map maker and spat out. All spiro is, the TLDR version; jungle jungle jungle green field jungle jungle jungle cliff you can't see until you're already falling to your death jungle jungle swamp green field Spiro is entirely unfun to play and is the SOLE reason I'm waiting until it's finally gone [because i assume most servers, if not all are swapping to Gateway on release] to play isle again despite ADORING the new playables [cerato/beipi/troodon, galli exists i guess]. From the gameplay I've seen of Gateway it not only looks genuinely beautiful, but it looks DYNAMIC. It looks like this could be a real place. It looks like the roster will have actual areas they benefit from being in like when you mentioned carno being able to hunt efficiently in the new plains or cerato sticking to the new forests. Jungle maps are a gimmick at best and stupidly repetitive at worst, and Spiro falls into that category. Jungles are only cool when it's a portion of a map, not basically the entire thing. Shit, there's an entire game based off the fact that jungles are a hellscape to survive in- Green Hell! I wouldn't mind if Gateway had a section of it that was a jungle, but I'm totally ok with jungles just being completely gone to be honest. Dinosaurs in jungle biomes is getting pretty old for me, personally. I feel like the older maps, like the 2nd to last iteration of V3 [the one with the cannibal statues in the redwoods] was honestly a great formula for how a good dinosaur game map feels. A good mix of different biomes that doesn't solely rely on a single one. idk who worked on both spiro and Gateway, but if a different dude did Gateway they better keep that guy on their map design team. Once Gateway drops I'll be playing the SHIT out of isle, DOWN WITH THE WICKED WITCH THAT IS SPIRO
The new stam and health regen changes are too much... No longer feels like an adventure and survival. Just sitting around in a bush for hours between being a walking simulator.
I think it ran a lot better than spiro back when both were in unreal 4 so im sure its better. Spiro is cluttered with a much of garbage you have to render and extremely dense hotspots. I dont think gateway will be like that as much.
That and the deino nerf better make it an actually hard dino. I want people to actually have to ambush more instead of just sitting around and getting whatever they want.

@@niox1920 The nerf isn't supposed to be to stats or anything. Its getting a new move actually with its upward lunge. The nerf is supposed to be how hard it is to grow and make them not able to be everywhere. But yeah apexes where everything is small-small mid tiers was dumb lol.
