Fantastic result!!! There were no failures, simply design attempts that didn’t work as originally planned. The final result is absolutely beautiful!!! Love the interlocking joint with the accent piece!! That was a wonderful touch. Great job!!

Nice design, and it works better without the veneer.

Sometimes what seems a mistake turns out to be that blessing in disguise. Made a very nice small table/bench. Nice video.

Great table and It's important to show your mistakes and trial and error. Most YT woodworkers make it look like they get everything perfect all the time, which we all know is BS! One piece of advise I would give is when/if you can afford it, get a good sander (Festool or Mirka), it makes such a difference!

Completely agree, the new Mirka has been a godsend! Thank you for watching!! 🙌

Great video and nice story about the design evolves during the built. The best pieces I had created has the same story. Looking for more content from you.

When building your finish, always use high gloss even if you want the final look to be matte or satin. The coats should be fairly thin and sanded out a bit each time. The gloss will "build up" and create a lot of depth, so that your last two coats of matte or satin still have a lot of depth under them. I suggest to make yourself some sample boards with various finishes that you can show the customer the end result while in the design stage. write the steps on the back of each sample. I do this with joinery too to show things like mortise & tenon or sliding dovetails, etc. Doing veneer like that as a beginner is really tough- I have been doing this 40+ yrs and never try to use raw veneer like that. I will buy paper backed or it I cannot I will veneer super thin plywood and then use those panels as my now thicker and flatter veneered panels- you are edgebanding anyway so the extra thickness does not matter. The other way we can "fix" a bad veneer joint is by making that a "feature" and cut it out and inlay an accent strip. Stick with it, you'll get there.

Brilliant advice! Thank you so much, I will be sure to take this all on board next time!

very nice design, what's your background ?

Thank you! I’m actually an architect by trade- but woodworking allows me to be more hands-on with design!

@@_cmyk_ not surprised :D I think it lacks a bit on the woodworking youtube game, most channels are mostly about technique but not enough on the designing and styling, I guess if you lean towards these aspects that could be a very interesting channel

That's a great result, and done with simple tools most of us have, not a domino to be seen! :-) Where do you buy the wood?
@_cmyk_
@_cmyk_ Месяц назад
I did break out the ‘dowel-mino’ ;) I’m mostly hunting for wood online but sometimes will be donated pieces from local showrooms etc. Thanks for watching!

Also, I am interested to know what the part was that connected your router to the track. Could you provide info on it please? Thank you.
@_cmyk_
@_cmyk_ Месяц назад
The specific part is a Makita 194579-2 Router Guide Rail Adaptor, which seemed to work perfectly with my router plunge base!
@blainerobinson5389
@blainerobinson5389 Месяц назад
The base's design is excellent. Did you consider the fluted edge, grooved design detail for your offset top? I very much liked the idea of the offset detail, but I think it may have blended more than you would have liked. Keep building.
@_cmyk_
@_cmyk_ Месяц назад
I definitely considered it! In the end I decided a groove on the top wouldn't be practical, so if it doesn't serve a purpose I would rather keep it simple there. Thank you for picking up on the details!

veneering is all about learning how to do it, using a burl is something I wouldn't suggest for a first attempt, also use veneer tape not masking tape, and you put on way too much glue
