Sometimes you need to set goals that are bigger than you can achieve. By choosing something audacious or ambitious, you stretch and grow better than if you had set an easily achievable one instead.
I've learned over the past few years, that setting myself up for a significant challenge will force me to learn how to actually overcome it. I end up learning more just by failing or struggling, than I do by succeeding.
As an entrepreneur, I have to be both grounded in reality as well as hold a vision larger than my current capabilities. This combination has helped me achieve more than I used to think was possible, while also allowing for sustainability in self-employment.
It's important to note that there's a difference between setting audacious goals, and setting impossible ones. For example, I can set a goal of being an elephant seal, but I'll never actually become one. That being said, I know I can set a goal of building a media company from the ground up -- and have an actual chance of it happening.
