Literally my favorite GTA game. I played them all as a kid I was 12 and Vice City came out. Of course GTA III change the whole world but Vice City was just that much better
I love Vice City because they have more freedom than GTA3 and also you can buy property to have easier home access and business for earning side money after completing tasks. Other games who implement this system even cant beat Vice City due it lack soul and effort to making such good game. GTA 3 is just a bland game that revolutionized the Open-World game but it barely had anything onve you finished the game.
yeah 3 felt bare bones but when this game came out i was shitting bricks i remember i used to play the demo disc on ps2 cuz i didn’t have the whole game
Ah, my favorite. Best soundtrack by far but SA comes damn close, my personal favorite protagonist and great voice work by Ray Liotta. The funniest game too in my opinion, I always crack up during the final Kaufman Cabs mission. Beautiful world set in my favorite aesthetic, 80s Miami drug fueled action with fast cars, neon lights, and awesome sounding machine guns ripping down crowds of gangsters. The finale mission being straight out of Scarface was icing on the cake. Spawned the better of the two stories games in my opinion as well. Perfect 10/10! My only critique is that it made GTA 3 bad to me just cause of him much better it was in every way that I never wanted to go back.
One of the best things Vice City added was the ability to exit moving vehicles which is very useful if the vehicle you're driving is about to explode on you as stopping to get out just takes too much time and can easily result in your own death especially if the vehicle drives at a high speed which takes it longer to stop
It's always been a dream of mine to play Vice City with all the cut content fully implemented. From pastor Richard's to the extra missions from Avery, Gator keys, you name it.
Just like us! It's such a relief that some great people on GTAForums managed to make a GTA VC Beta Edition Mod 😃 What is sad on the opposite is that the modification stopped being upgraded recently.. But, well let's hope it will be resurrected!
VC is my all time FAVORITE GTA! Tommy rules!! His monologues are the BEST!! Love when he says "I need the money", or "Sorry but i need that!", etc..TOMMY IS THE BEST!!
Ill break it down. 1. The plot of the story, the people you meet along the way. Your Rosenbergs, Kent Pauls and that bastard Lance Vance. They all fit the story and the era of the times so well. The revenge feel to it and as it states from the glits to the glamour to the swamps and the ghetto, had that little bit of everything. The actors who play them are top notch. If it was a movie script and you saw the names, youd be imterested. Liotta, Guzman, Hopper, Fischer and even Danny Dyer…Hell even Jenna Jamison. 2. Tommy Vercetti. Cold blooded, ruthless and business means business but he has that little just ever so little bit of softness you welcome here and there, he looks after those who look after him, sometimes its his down fall but hes a bad ass motherfucker to deal with it none the less. Ray Liotta fit it perfect, his second greatest role from Goodfellas. 3. The perfect catching of the era that is the 80’s in Miami, the sun light effect to the darkened swampy rain, it really feels like you are in that timeline in that place. The graphics as bad as they are really bring onto that gritty type underworld theme, all the while cruising around listening to some classic 80’s music. It has everything that fits the 80’s miami. Money, Drugs and power, revenge and retribution. A story that is always exciting. 4. It reminds me of a time when the world wasnt so advanced but you got a clue on what was coming. GTA 3 set alot of highs but Vice City topped it by a long shot, and it seemed unreal to how it did in that short period of time they both got released. You knew the next one was going to be even better, which is was to most but to me not even close because Carl Johnsons story was far fetched, cliche and over bearing. You someone how go from looking for revenge for your “moms” to working with people that didnt fit his story, he had no business dealing with. Fuck that zero mission, and fuck following the dam tracks. Because it was a story i always wanted to rush through. Vice city i loved watching pan out. Whats gonna happen next. He had no personality, he said everything youd expect a gangbanger to say. While i enjoyed the game play. Urban early 90’s LA hasnt a scratch on early 80’s miami. Vice City forever.
I know games took far less time to make in those days, but it's still remarkable that Rockstar were able to create and release Vice City in just 12 months. It's a masterpiece.
whats always annoyed me is the inability to swim in vice city, the game is a beach themed game and yet you cant swim. rockstar's excuse for not being able to swim is "graphical limitations" but san andreas and vice city are both on the same console and same type of engine. its also possible to swim in vice city with simple modifications on pc so i dont get why it was so hard for them to put in swimming as a feature. i know there is also the fact that it would ruin the concept of unlocking the other islands but then they could have made it so you can swim only after you complete a certain percentage or make it to a specific point in the game. vice city is a master piece and if it wasnt rushed i bet it would be possibly even more loved then san andreas, (not that san andreas wasnt a good game, it was amazing but vice city feels more special) Edit: Vice city Stories WAS NOT made on the same engine as San Andreas, vice city was. I learned that a while ago but came across my comment again.
I'd say it was due to time constraint. VC released just one year after 3. They probably had to cut some things out. San Andreas released 2 years after VC, so they had more time.
@@greggski3710 yes I mentioned that in my comment, it was made in 9 months and was suppose to have more missions and a bigger map, one whole section of the story was cut and the vice city gator Keyes (part of the map) got cut out
The island part you mentioned isn't even an excuse, cause in VCS you could swim, yet couldn't get to the other island by swimming, a wave would prevent you from going further.
Why? The setting the story the music it had tommy had a perfect balance between comedy and badassery. And they had ray voicing him. Everything about the game felt right and was a game that showed what the ps2 could do. 3 VC SA and scarface on Xbox were if not 4 of the best games ever made in their respective genre.
Vice city was my intro to the franchise. My favorite game to this day. After that I loved San Andreas for the story that honestly caught me off guard at times lol. GTA 5 is a great game, but it lacks the ability to continue to do heists after the main game is over, and I do not include online because at this point, u can start a millionaire and really there's no need to be a rise to fame criminal if u start rich as hell. Bit that's me. That's why I love vice city and San Andreas. Ur nothing. U become something.
I vividly remember this Christmas gift. I was 12 and BEGGING to open a present early while tons of family was over partying. I grabbed the gift that was clearly a game, opened it, and it was Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance. I was suuuuuper stoked. I opened it immediately AND THERE WAS NO DISC!!! It was still relatively early so my dad ran to Walmart to see if he can get an exchange. It was closed however the manager was still closing up and let him exchange the game. Unfortunately MK was sold out so I asked for Vice City and it was there. I remember hearing the manager ask,”how old is your son” I didn’t hesitate “dad there’s prostitutes, drugs, killing and all sorts of stuff I know not to do, it’s no big deal” he came home with that game and the rest is history! Ended up being one of my all time favorite games and gave me a great taste in music!
Big fan of VC, spend countless hours, running from the cops, AI was so incredible fun. Coud get lost hours and hours in VC. Finally achieved 100% after 14 years. Never though that some things are there. Always reminds me of simpler day...
GTA Vice City was the best. I enjoyed it even more than Vice City Stories. I’ve met the voice actor for Ricardo Diaz, Luis Guzman is a very sweet and awesome guy.
GTA vice City is best After 23 years i still play it that's the power of game colourful environment & Miami aesthetic ocen drive road & sunsets love it i still play this thnx to Old R* Games & developer R* North
If the original vice city had the buisness venture aspect to it like vice city stories it would probaly be my favourite game bar San Andrea's, same applies to that also
Every GTA is it’s own masterpiece, I personally have this one as my favourite. SA was awesome too, but Vice City was the one for me. When I got the newest remastered editions I done VC, then SA then 3 🥰
honestly vice city was such a master piece that even after 20 years of it's release , it's still played and loved by fans the retro vibes hit so hard man the nostalgia is real!!
I just tested the gang members that you can only recruit after 100% completion. So first I went in Little Haiti and some Hatian gang members attacked me. 1. If they shoot me, the my gang members shoot back at them. 2. If they punch me, my gang members don't do anything. 3. If the Hatians punch my gang, they don't do anything. Then I got a wanted level and they shot back at a cop that was shooting me but it took a while so it's very inconsistent. Most of the time they just ignored the cops. The final thing that I did, I went to the army base and shot at some soldiers, the soldiers shot back at me, my gang shot back at them but they stood no chance since the soldiers carry M4s and my guys have some sub machine guns. So yeah, pointless recruiting gang member sistem in GTA Vice City, at least in San Andreas you could take them with you for a drive by or to fight in the gang wars for territory.
Vice City Stories did this the best. I still remember taking the enemies property with the gang with thier Ak's it was fun. Hopefully this mechanic can be brought up to thier future titles.
Sounds like as a gameplay mechanic it was still in beta. That's why they relegated it to post-100%. Apparently by the time of SA they worked it all out.
@@gaminginvestigators Yes! Kinda curious to see how they would approach Vice City in the HD era. Its probably gonna be more true to scale with the real life Miami and all the stuff they wanted to do with the PS2 game like the Everglades and such.
Rockstar have changed thats a fact, back in the day we get couple of games in just a couple of years, then,we got gta iv and his expansions which was pretty good in my opinion and now we get the same freaking game 3 times in a row(4 incluiding pc version)and only with a couple of differences on the visual aspect none the gameplay or story, focusing only in the online wich ofcourse pay their bills, these days all these companies are the same looks like they dont care about nothing else.
Driver 3 had no chance compared to vice city and it was ultimately the end for driver as it would never make a comeback which is a shame as driver was beating gta in the early days this is what competition does for games pushes each side to do better without it games go stale dont believe me look at gta v compared to vice city alone
Gta vice city the game is masterpeace i playing this game 10 11 years from childhood characters music story map everything I can talk forever about this game when I hear songs from gta vice city any song even soundtruck ending song i got some chills...
@@gaminginvestigators I think that Rockstar only wanted to prove how much better than Claude this new protagonist was going to be, Tommy is a real psycho, he has no friends or feelings lol he is maybe the only protagonist that makes sense when you go berserk killing everyone and destroying everything in the city 😅 thank you for the videos btw 👏
I'm kinda embarrassed that I've only started to pay attention and care about this game only a couple of years ago, i didn't know why i didn't that before, because this game is awesome, the story is awesome, the characters are awesome, San andreas is my favorite but Vice City is easily on my top 2 favorite, awesomw game!
I mean, i think it's just something passed down (the files thing). GTA SA has remnants of VC Vehicles in the files, handling.cfg has VC vehicles at the very bottom
well yes I wished you could swim in GTA Vice City would have saved me all kinds of problems in the long run but other than that but I didn't really start likeing the GTA games till 3 came out cause I like having a Ground level view of things
When San Andreas was coming out, local gaming magazine made a quick overview of the previous GTA games, and Vice City was written off as a cheap copy GTA3. I hope whoever wrote that either no longer writes game journalism or found a better taste, because no GTA game before or after Vice City has made such an impression on me. Having recently replayed both VC and SA, I gotta say that VC ended up being even better than I remembered, while SA didn't quite live up to the nostlagia. Story played a big part of that. VC is full of fun memorable characters from start to finish, and SA starts good too, but then you leave Los Santos and for the 2/3 of the game you pretty much just fuck around and then get the last story mission.
I wish they would have made it to where you could swim in GTA 3 and Vice City cause we all know all too well what happens if you either fall in the water or crash in to the water you die cause you can't swim and that causes all kinds of problems we never wanted to deal with
To those too young to understand when these games first came out and you first played them on your PlayStation there's no other feeling like it for Christmas one year my parents bought me the PlayStation 2 with Vice City inside of it they didn't go by the game ratings I was a little kid and they had no clue what the hell kind of game they were getting to me they already made the mistake of buying Grand Theft Auto 2 for PS1 and they thought it was just a cute little game they didn't realize how graphic Vice City was and they had no clue
Cause Tommy Vacetti is awesome Ray Liotta voice acting was great not to mention the story and the game play where awesome i love that when Tommy Vacetti is robbing someone he yells at them am robbing you wild you beat them up
Vice City's 100% completion rewards were leaps and bounds better than III's which was practically nothing, no infinite ammo, no health increase, no nothing
