Lol Guilty Gear is certainly a different speed from what you usually do, but I like that you're exploring it because the music is VERY important to the game, and it's 90% character themes. To me that's always been one of your strongest points on this channel: being able to listen to a song and understand what that character is like, as you've done with Genshin, Monster Hunter, and so many other series! Why is the music "more important" in this game, you ask? Well that would be because the composer is Daisuke Ishiwatari, the CREATOR AND DIRECTOR OF GUILTY GEAR

The Midnight Carnival is the boss theme for Guilty Gear X2's main antagonist I-No, a time-travelling witch with a guitar whose motive is as enigmatic as her origin. You face her in any characters' Arcade Mode as the final opponent. She's arrogant, cruel, dismissive, and fond of sexual innuendos - except when she's pissed, then she tends to explode into a foul-mouthed tirade at the slightest annoyance. In later entries to the Guilty Gear series, she gets mellowed out a lot, but here, she's literally an alpha bitch, and she owns that title with pride.

If you want to do more Guilty Gear music I recomand Requem, Mirror of the World and Drift from Strive, they are amazing and pretty unique. Edit: And also Iron-clad Faith

GG is a very interesting franchise. Writhe in Pain is my favorite theme, it features harpsichord combined with rock music. The character's name is Millia Rage, her hair is cursed and she can change its form during fights.

I'm surprised it took this long for Marco to react to a GG song, it's some of the best video game sound tracks out there Guilty Gear has a REALLY strong story with music, since Daisuke Ishiwatari, the guy who made the original game, also wrote the songs and designed the characters, who are all inspired after vocalists and guitarrists, like the main character Sol Badguy, named after Freddy Mercury.

I would love to hear a reaction to the entire Guilty Gear Strive OST. It's insanely diverse and fun with some real hitters.

The entire franchise has awesome music, but you need to hear the characters' themes in the GG: Strive, they literally tell the story and personality of each one of them with every word. They tailor made lyrics and melodies to each one. And if you are interested in I-no you need to hear her theme first.

Guilty gear and Blazblue both are music disk with a free fighting game, Blazblue have some "opera" tracks. Blazblue ost: 100/10 -Awakening the chaos -Plastic Night -God of War -Imperial Order All the tracks are in sync with the lore of the characters.

A whole bunch of people have made comments about the Guilty Gear Strive soundtrack so I might get lost in the noise BUT! I have an interesting request to make if you decide to do more of these. Each of the Strive themes for returning characters actually take the leitmotifs from their previous themes. For example, I-no's "Requiem" actually has the core riff from "Blacklight Babe", her original theme. It's like they all were written a melody that was theirs, and then later that melody became their I Want song. If you do more GG songs, I'd love to see a series where you'd listen to the original XX theme, then use that to do an impromptu analysis of the Strive remix.

GGXrd and Strive have ***absolutely incredible*** soundtracks; Strive's is like a whole album that just celebrates rock and metal and many of it's sub-genres.

Proving once again that the Guilty Gear series is a bunch of banger OSTs that each come with a game. And I-No fighting with a guitar (and speakers) is tame conpared to characters like Bedman. Hope to see more fighting game music in the near future, especially classic ones.

FINALLY.... Guilty Gears have INSANE character music with various genre of metal/rock music. You can try Guilty Gears Strive next because it has vocals and I love to see your reaction on them. My recommendations are: Love the Subhuman Self Carve Your Way Armor Clad Faith Necessary Discrepancy (this one has insane time signature change) Drift Requiem Trigger Mirror of the World (basically any of GGS music because they're all fire 🔥🔥🔥)

Diva of Despair is one hell of the trip. It's not a song, but a soundtrack. It tells a story. Speaks of the struggle that Ramlethal Valentine went through. Explains her misunderstandings and leads to an end where she can finally be around and love a puppy that once was a part of the world she tried to destroy That one can actually be good for a video

Thank you for covering Midnight Carnival! I've been listening to the XX soundtrack for over twenty years and Midnight Carnival is my favourite track. There's an anger to this song that is so affecting me. I-no as a character (at this stage) loves tormenting people. But there's a rage underneath her teasing persona that this song really communicates.

HELL YEAH!! Okay I would heartily recommend looking into the Guilty Gear -STRIVE- OST if you want more vocal tracks to analyze, there's a ton of different genres within there as well! I particularly would love to see your thoughts on "Let Me Carve Your Way" and "The Town Inside Me". Two ENTIRELY different tracks about two entirely different characters but they're so damn good.

Guilty Gear is the type of series that the music comes first then the fighting. I've always been of the idea Daisuke thinks of the OST first lol. His love for music and how they're referenced in the game makes these themes even better. If you want a laugh go read some of the titles to character themes and you'll see what I mean. Hopefully Midnight Carnival is the entry point for you into this series which is constantly filled with some of the best music in gaming. Please give a listen to Freesia from GG Xrd, it's so damn good.

Oh boy, he's found another series of bangers! So, from Guilty Gear up until Xrd, the soundtrack remains the same with it's more classic metal feel for the most part, as the lore has a much darker tone to its over-arcing story, and the plot that drives most of the cast of characters. Xrd and Strive work to bring in a little more life and personality to each character by giving them personal soundtracks that include lyrics, and is beautifully tailored to them in their own ways. I will state, however, that the Korean soundtrack of Guilty Gear XX: Reload specifically, holds a much more... I want to say, industrialized metal tone to each character, but despite it being an album of instrumental tracks(just like most of the series), it gives a much more darker undertone that just kinda fits everyone in their own way without the need for words. Save for select few. In short, Guilty Gear is one of the few lore-heavy fighters I truly enjoy where the music absolutely makes it, and I hope to be able to see you take a peek at the soundtracks in the future.

I love this series to death and I am very excited to see you react to all kinds of guilty gear music! The creator of the game, Daisuke Ishiwatari also writes the music and character stories. He somehow manages to put soul into many of the character’s themes while blasting your ears with some incredibly creative guitar riffs and experimental musicality especially in the two recent titles to the series.

If I may suggest, it would be interesting to see Marco react first to 'Holy Orders' (Ky Kiske song) and then to 'Holy Orders?' (Robo-Ky song) and see his reaction. Holy Order is not my personal favorite, but the genius of the distorted version, which uses out of tune instruments that 'somehow' are trying to make the right sounds is astonishing. It reminds me of 'Elio e le Storie Tese' (as an Italian Marco should know them) when they do not follow the beat... following the beat.

How have i not seen this reaction untill now, Guilty Gear music goes fucking NUTS!!! Guilty Gears entire, Style, Atmosphere, Aesthetic and all the Charakters are completely themed arround Metal and Rock music, Metal is this series lifeblood. May i recommend listening to any of the Songs on the Guilty Gear Strive Ost, all the charakter themes tell the story of the associated charakter... they are simply amazing and lend themselves very well to your format and aproach to analyzing Songs.

YES! MARCO! GUILTY GEAR!!! AAAAHHHHHH! For real though the music is the REASON I just bought Strive. Every theme has so much depth and emotion to the sound and the lyrics. Heaven or Hell, LETS ROCK

Okay, Marco doing reviews of vanilla GG. This must be a fever dream. On a serious note, every track is a banger, and every character has a theme song since the first game back in the psx era. 99% of the songs were purely instrumental whilst there were a few of vocal songs on the side (live in NA, live in JPN) and some on Xrd sign/rev. On the recent version, called Strive, all songs have lyrics (imo, an acquired taste) but memorable in their own way. I remember Midnight Carnival fondly, because this damn I-no boss cost me so many damn coins in the arcade. Raging while listening to one of the best boss themes of the series (Meet Again, oh boy).

Guilty Gear is all about musical references. The "Guilty Gear" character Sol Badguy is named after Freddy Mercury (Sol's real name is Frederick Bulsara which is Freddy's real last name and Bad Guy is a persona Freddy took up irl), Sol's favourite thing in the world is his Sheer Heart Attack record by Queen. The riff you heard I-No play in that clip is the guitar solo from Metallica's "One" with her entire appearance being based off Japanese musician Ringo Sheena all the way down to her face mole, her guitar, her birthday as well as her height. I think you'll have great fun listening to more Guilty Gear songs. You're just getting started with the ones you've listened to so far

If you want more, I STRONGLY recommend the soundtrack from Guilty Gear Overture. People sleep on that one because it was a weird spinoff game that wasn't very good, but MUSICALLY I think it was kind of the turning point for Daisuke Ishiwatari as a composer. Starting in that game his compositions become incredibly intricate. It also has the best version of Holy Orders. It's funny, once you see enough of Guilty Gear's character designs, I-no using a guitar as a weapon doesn't even seem all that strange

Mysterious, I’ll give you. But…uh, well. She’s called The Witch in Red for a reason, and sometimes the W’s not used. That said, there’s an entire sea of soundtracks with tracks on the level of the one you just listened to, all the product of the mind of one absolute madman (and the people associated with him) known as Daisuke Ishiwatari. He is the beating heart and soul of Guilty Gear, and by that I mean that he literally solely created more than half of its music as well as producing the games themselves. Would love to see you go on a journey through all the music he’s produced, it really is an epic amount. P.S. That Solo she did in the game clip you watched? That’s directly pulled from Ozzy Osbourne’s ‘Mr. Crowley’. There’s…no lack of musical references in the various characters, their names, their moves…

Please do more Guilty Gear music! Guilty Gear Strive (the most recent game) has many more vocal tracks than past games. I would recommend Let Me Carve Your Way, Requiem (ino’s theme in that game), and Mirror Of The World.

I'm torn because while I would love getting a full Guilty Gear Strive OST reaction from you, I also think you'd be able to make a more in-depth breakdown on pretty much every individual song on the album as well. Regardless, I am beyond hyped that this song has put Guilty Gear on your radar. Looking forward to future content on the series, whatever the form you chose to make it in!

I think if you want to check out the Strive OST (like many people are suggesting), it may be worth looking at the track "Requiem" first, which is this character's theme in that game. Midnight Carnival is basically her unique superboss music (i.e., "I'm serious mode") and not her normal theme, so it displays different parts of her character than maybe her other themes. (Requiem is not the most musically popular track in Strive's OST, but it's pretty strong character-wise). That said, if you're gonna do it like your Guess the Champion videos from LoL, prepare for some insanity. GG's story/characters are batshit ludicrous.

GGXX themes are really good but previous game GGX musics are another level. Awe of She (Dizzy's theme), Holy Orders (Ky Kiske's theme), Writhe in Pain (Millia's theme) and Momentary Life (Baiken's theme) are best ones.

Important thing to note on guilty gear music, somehow vocals some don’t and it varies from game to game. Something else to know is that there is an entire soundtrack exclusive to Korea so that’s something else to look for, fun as others have stated strive its most recent game is the most consistent with how their music connects to the characters. Also if you do plan on listening to other guilty gear songs with vocals, i highly suggest you find videos that show the lyrics, it’s always he is famous for its heavy engrish (English with a heavy Japanese accent, It’s kind of become part of the brand at this point)

Yoooooooooo guilty gear \o/ This series has a lot of bangers. Holy orders(Be just or be dead) is another banger from the older games. The current last 3 games deserve an entire listen too though. You could pick'em at random and you'd likely not choose a bad one. As fighting games go though, these songs are very aggressive and over the top, perfect for fighting games, absolutely love it.

Guilty Gear has a killer soundtrack. Daisuke is a mad genius. Another recent great fighting game soundtrack is Mick Gordon's OST for Killer Instinct (2014). 'I'm Back (To Rise)' is an all-timer.

It's worth looking into BlazBlue too, basically all of arcsys' catalog has awesome music. A cool thing they did for that game is put in a few battle themes of fights between two characters - like the song 'under heaven destruction II' There's two versions, I prefer the second, I know some people prefer the first.

Waiting for the day when you'll dissect the OSTs from CODE VEIN, an underrated game with a phenomenal music. Try to listen it's main menu theme song and you'll see(or hear) what i mean.

Oh yeah, GG has some great tracks, you've found yourself in another rabbit hole with this one. I don't think you really do much in the way of requests, but I will instead offer a recommendation of a practically unknown song from one of the most obscure places; Army Men: Air Combat for the Gameboy Color (not the same soundtrack as the N64 or PC versions of the game) - specifically, the main menu/theme song of the game. There was no reason for 3DO to go so incredibly hard with it, but they made one of the most ridiculously awesome pieces of chiptune music I've ever encountered, for a game that would never even be on the radar for most people on Earth. If you find the time to check it out, I cannot possibly recommend it enough. While I'd love to see a reaction, just knowing I got the song into the ears of someone who has such a deep appreciation for meticulously crafted music would be all I could ask for.

I personally recommend Touhou and Library of Ruina, both games have some really interesting tracks. The Touhou fighting game spin-offs especially have some real funky tracks.

Fun fact I-No's disign is allmost entirely based on the japanese rock star "Ringo Shiina" (barring the witch hat), she even has the exact same Guitar as Ringo. This is a theme in the series, allmost every charakter is based on a Rock band, if not one specific Artist ( fa.Sol Badguy= Freddy Mercury), every attack is named after a Song, the universal Game Mechanics are named after Bands, Songs and specific lyrics, the worlds Aesthetic is at least somewhat based on the Gothic art on many Metal Album Covers and such, this game has Rock and Metal running through every fiber of its being.

I hope you listen more to Guilty Gear music and maybe their successor BlazBlue as well. These two series have such awesome music.

THE FGC is a musical gate drug. The fighting game community houses some of the best songs out there. Too bad i suck at fighting games. Regardless though, I always follow some of the releases because you can find treasure in the strangest or familiar of places.

Altought a bit off what you usually do, the guilty gear series has greta music. My favorite being "Like a weed, naturaly, has a matter of course", it would be cool seeing you trying to guess how the character is just from that.

Makes me wonder how blown away you would get by hearing the Killer Instinct 2013 soundtrack. Composed mostly by Mick Gordon, he made a personalized theme song for almost every character in the game. The game's music is also reactive to what you do as a player, so it speeds up or slows down depending on what is happening, or what moves you are doing. The result is that it hypes you up quite a lot while playing. Even the menu plays the main theme song whith each button press you do while moving around in it.

Glad to see this! Daisuke Ishiwatari is the composer and lead guitarist for Guilty Gear's music, as well as the lead designer and voice actor for the series' protagonist Sol Badguy. Pretty much every song you'll hear is a sort of "I am" song, and most of them do have lyrical covers, including The Midnight Carnival, usually performed by Naoki Hashimoto from the band Outrage.

The Midnight Carnival is one of my favorite Guilty Gear XX tracks. It's the final boss theme for the story mode version of the game, though some hidden bosses and characters are available. Every character has their own song, and each of them are really good for the character they're portraying. There's also a few "faction" songs, where when certain characters come to fight each other, instead of their regular character theme it becomes the theme for the faction, with "Existence" being my favorite. Ky's theme "Holy Orders (Be Just or Be Dead)" is my personal favorite from XX (X2 here). Dizzy's theme, "Awe of She", and Testament's theme, "Bloodstained Lineage" are my favorites from the game before X2, Guilty Gear X, but they unfortunately cut out some bits in remaking them for X2.
