The 6505 is, to me, the sound of NWOAHM in the mid 00s. EMGs into a boosted 6505 thru v30s is just iconic. It's been done to death now, but damn it sounds great. Rob Arnold, a longtime Peavey guy, recently made a video about his love of the EMG 81 and it really is a case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Great video, thanks Jon! Edit: love that clean tone section! Surprisingly smooth tone from this fire breather!
I wish I had a place to jam these huge amps I will have to settle for the 6505 MH. Ive got the Invective MH and Stealth 5150 15watt and love both of them. 6505 is next up.
Would you say it's better boosted? I'm currently using precision drive clones for the stealth and the built in boost for the Invective. My Engl Ironball needs no boost lol.
Oh man, i really admire your work. You put a lot of passion and dedication into your videos, and you are also f***ing serious at riffing, my best wishes to you and your channel.
When I say that this demo sonically buttered my aurical bread, I am sincere! This is one of my favorite videos you've ever done! I also really enjoy hearing these amps in the room during your dialing in segments at the end. Bravo, buddy!
My first ever tube amp is EVH 5150 stealth, I feel like 5150/6505, whether Peavey or EVH, are some of the most iconic amps ever made, and they’re just very close to my heart, I’d buy a hundred of them if I could haha
I've been hunting for a head for about a year, and nothing that I have tried has really been what I want. But the stealth is by far the closest. To me, the stealth has a much more 80s thing going on, more mid-range. The 6505 and the 5150 iconic are more thrashy and percussive and tight, which isn't what I'm going for. Too scooped
@@jamesmoses4066 I feel like Stealth can do it all tbh. Although I’m using it mostly for high gain metal, I’m also in love with the green channel. Got an EQ pedal to tweak the amp even further and it’s just the complete all-rounder for me, but I also have a modded jcm800 studio that I mostly use for the 80s stuff
@@llnkv_ have you compared it to any of the other 5150 variants? I know everyone says these all sound the same, but I swear the stealth sounds completely different from other 5150s
@@jamesmoses4066I have the 100 watt el34stealth and I’ve recorded the old school 5150. I can say they sound extremely similar. The old school is a bit more unhinged sounding. Maybe Rae would be a better word for it. Pissed off maybe? Where the el34 stealth just sounds super polished in comparison. Even if I were to just pick a random mic placement on the cab and just record my evh it’s gonna have this focus that a peavey won’t have. Not saying better or worse. They both have their very important uses. For me in most cases I would probably prefer a peavey over my evh. I prefer my evh tone over a peavey but I find myself mixing music that would call for an old school peavey before it would call for a modern evh. And yes I like to reamp. So I miss out on using my evh rig a lot. I have however recently found a way to get my evh to sound a little more old school. I just use my boss eq200 and lower the volume to the input of my amp. This makes the amp behave and sound (to my ears) much more like an old peavey than an evh. I do this for mixing. But for jamming out by myself I just let it rip full bore because why wouldn’t I?! With all that gain on tap it’s easy to have fun jamming alone.
Damn dude , your content is straight 🔥 . Bought my first Schecter 2 months ago and was blown away . I see why you have so many. Just ordered my 2nd today . A Jake Pitts E-1. Can’t wait . Thanks Jon 🤘🏻🤘🏻 Love the Red Reign Apocalypse.
How much I love this amp! The value for money is impressive, you can hardly get a lead channel so good at this price. Good job as always, btw. If I may suggest something: I would be interesting in a more detailed demo with a real cab, maybe with a couple of different mics, to get a richer and more similar to recordings sound. Cheers! Keep on doin'it 🫡
I have one, it's great. I've owned the 5150 2x12 combo, several 6505+ and the evh 5153 6L6 stealth, this one is my favorite. The cleans are great, especially for live, a pure clean tone doesn't cut as well as something with a little bit of saturation
Nice video as always! About the presence knob James Brown (the designer of the 5150) explained that it was an error of "tape" and before noon it has no action as you said. I Like to krank the presence knob between 8 and 9 and lower the horrible trebles...the 5150 2 is tighter because Eddie really liked the voicing of the 2x12 combo and asked James Brown to keep the mod on the new version.
I was looking down at my phone(passively watching your video) and then I heard your metal demo 2 come on and my eyes went up instantly to see what you were playing. Sounding good, my man! Yeah, doing a comparison between the 1992 and the 6505+ would be great. I don't have any of the "5150" family of amps, but I really should get one. That UA Anti pedal sounded good, as well. If a person wants that 5150 sound, they got some many options to choose from.
Wow this amp sounds fantastic! I've always liked the 5150s but the 6505 II few under my radar. I know it's the same lineage and your example sounds particularly good. I was using my 6505 mini head until I sprung for my Astro-20
Great demo and that amp for the price is a killer. It can hold its own and then some against amps double or triple the cost. They should make a 50 watt version of that and trim it down.
The 5150 & 6505 are interesting in that from an EQ perspective I find them plenty tight, but the lead channel is so saturated that it makes them feel less tight. A tube screamer style mid boost in front or an EQ in the loop for added mids is nice.
Love the amp demo! Sure sounds like fans of the amp would want. Out of curiosity, how is the neck profile of the Schecter Solo guitar versus some of your Les Paul’s?
Definitely it's more tight and polished amp tone, it can still get pretty gnarly with a boost. Even though it's crazy, there are those that still boost a 5150/6505 😂😂😂
Guessing the mic'd section was at the lowest volume possible? As in when the power section actually starts doing its thing? Loved my old 6505 when I could open the taps but things seemed muffled at TV volumes. Then again, same thing with my old 5150III. Mark v 25 was a little better, but ultimately that's the reason I went to modelers. Sounds right at any volume. And yeah, still need to tweak things for loud/quiet play but that's no different than a real amp. Still miss the amp in the room sound. Not sure I miss the "I should be wearing earplugs in my living room with the amp on 1" tho! Got so loud, so quick. Great riffs/songlets and the amp sounded awesome :)
The Amp sounded great. All the guitars were sounding very good until you got to the Schecter at the end. It was sounding muffled, and lacked articulation, until you pressed the "Bright" button on the Amp, and that saved the day. 👍
Between the green channel clean, the green channel with Crunch, and the Red Channel with and without Crunch, you have 4 distinct tones right out of the box that responds incredibly to whatever guitar you choose to run through it.
@@crucifixgym I'm confused. The 6505 II is just a newer version of the 6505+. You're telling me you can hear a difference on the lead channel when you hit the crunch button?
@@SonicDriveStudio Yeah. To me they sound unbalanced in the low end. Wouldn't be my first choice in the studio, but don't get me wrong, they're still totally usable.
bro are you taking lessons or something? Your playing is improved as fuck and its much more melodic and notes / chords makes sense together ( Dont get me wrong but before it was all chug with notes didnt make sense with each other tbh )
