Why Having Kids and Getting Married is A Risk. 

Getting into a relationship, getting married, having kids, getting a pet are all risks. All of these situations put you at risk for heartbreak(via death, breakups etc.) Taking risks can be seen as positive and negative. I agree with Josh on the breakup convo when he mentioned that there needs to be change..If two individuals decided to split because they are going to different colleges or one had to move across the country,it's definitely because they don't wanna risk maintaining a relationship from afar..because everyone knows how hard that can be...So, if you're splitting because you don't wanna take the risk or you wanna stay on the safe side to avoid hurt or pressure that can be birthed from long distance dating and in the future you and your ex do decide to get back together then that means the two persons would have to adapt a mindset whereby they are willing to love eachother throughout any life changes that can still come their way..so their mindset would definitely have to change

first i just wanna say i love yalls podcasts so much, sometimes i won’t listen for a few weeks & then binge listen to all the ones a missed while i’m cleaning or on a walk. y’all are such an inspiration 🤍 but savannah won! i LOVE french toast & bacon lol. but i definitely see where Sav comes from with the pet & kids topic.. having pets & children can be tough. i think for me it was tough when my daughter was newborn-2 years old. but now that she’s almost 4, it’s so fun. our dog gets more attention now & now goes with us everywhere we go like exploring nature and long walks & parks. but i see Josh’s side because i do believe all pets are different. & as for getting back together successfully with an ex, i agree with Sav! me & my husband have known each other for 11 years & we dated for a bit & broke up & then got back together 2 years later, & now have even together for almost 7 years! so far so good!

My husband is a night owl, and I’m a morning person. He took night shift and I got morning. There is risk in everything. Just leaving the house there’s a risk in that. You don’t control those around you at all. Even as a parent. I wouldn’t get a dog while you are pregnant or freshly newborn. It’s too much added stress, but they add a lot of value to family. We have a 4 year old, and she’s obsessed with our cats and Pomeranian. I think Sav is just not saying it in the right way. 😂😂 my dog actually Helped me with my recovery because I had to get up and walk him and such. I agree with Josh. There has to be change to get back with an ex. That change could simply be maturity.

I get what Josh is saying about the ex thing. If you break up with someone it's for a reason, even if the reason is minor or "not bad." Something would need to be changed. Like setting boundaries with things, or with the long distance scenario you discussed, they have to move back or stay at a distance but change the way they communicate.

Definitely a tie up! Both of y’all lists are pretty close… I like waffles more than pancakes, and bacon more than sausage… love a good hash brown. On the pets topic my boyfriend and I have discussed that once we’re married we don’t want any children, but we do want a dog and my dad lives with us so that would be good for all of us. Not sure how a baby would be- we have discussed if I changed my mind he said if I wanted a baby we could have one but we do have an 11 year age gap, so I feel my window is closing since I’m 29 and he is 40 and his daughter is 18. I think all of these things are situational. I had a huge family and my dad told my mom absolutely no pets and we didn’t have any granted I’m the youngest of 5. So by the time I was 9 or so all of my siblings were out and my parents never wanted me to get an animal but now I want one more than ever especially for emotional support.

instead of “risk,” i think you’re thinking of responsibility! like in the way of where no one’s ever ready for a responsibility whether it’s marriage, kids, pets, etc. it’s more so of the stance where you take on that responsibility even if you don’t know if you’re 100% ready for it (the “risk” y’all mentioned) & then that responsibility will not only grow you as a person but also exponentially grow the range of happiness you get to experience in this wonderful God-given life! I don’t have kids or pets yet but I’ve always thought I’d get a pet after I finish having kids so that my youngest can learn the things that most older sibling learn when they get a baby sibling like being gentle or have a sense of responsibility and more.

I believe people can fall out of love....but can still love that person.(but it may sometimes depend on the reason for falling out of love) Dogs, if you plan to have kids, have them and then get a dog, after the kids are old enough and able to help with them. (trust me most kids ask for one lol ). I love your conversations and how mature you guys, answer the questions. . Also I enjoy how we the subscribers can give our opinions with no judgment being made by the other subscriber. I think anything can be a risk. Any time there’s the possibility of loss or it going badly…that’s a risk. And with marriage, you risk getting divorced, sacrifice, “losing yourself, etc (all loss)

A relationship is a risk because you can always lose that person or risk getting hurt but the rest isn’t a risk in my book but I understand what Josh is trying to say

I would say marriage is a risk when you enter a marriage thinking that it is a risk. If you marry to love your significant other through your both lives together, you only think about the positive and don't consider about having to divorce them one day. If both of the partnets enter the marriage with this mentality, there is no such thing as a risk. Of course, things may change as everything in life, but the more you think about the risk, the more it is likely to happen, if it makes sense. For example, when you change job, it is also a risk, but usually you don't change job thinking it will be a risk, otherwise it can go wrong. So I think I agree with Savannah in the way that "risk" may not be the correct word to define it. Living is also a risk because you may die, but you don't think about that all the time, otherwise you would not live your life. Actually, everything in life can be considered as a risk, it all comes to depend on the perspective you are choosing to see things as and from. But yeah, I don't consider marriage as a risk. Marriage is a commitment. I don't think there is risk envolved when things depend 100% on you. And a marriage depends totally on the both partners envolved. Of course, things may go wrong, but if you too truly believe in your love and your marriage, nothing bad can happen to it and usually these are the marriages that last. If you think it will in someway go wrong, I don't think you should get married, cause thinking about having a risk is a risk itself. Basically, we attract what we think and we should be the ones caring for our life/future and being careful with our words/thoughts/attitudes cause they dictate everything around us. This is life.

I have to side with josh on the dog topic. I had a dog before my daughter but he passed when she was a baby. We got a new dog who is very low energy. Then my daughters dad passed in 2020 and we got another dog to bring some happiness back in our home and get us out of the more. Mostly for me because the struggle was real but she was excited about a new dog as well. That being said I see what Sav means by having a special bond with Rue. I love the dog we have had longer obviously but our newer dog helped me through the worst years of my life. He means as much to me as my daughter does. I couldn’t imagine not having a dog kids or no kids.

I have two dogs right now and we’re planning on having a baby. I get what sav is saying it’s just EXTRA responsibilities. I won’t love my fur babies any less it will just be a challenge. So if you’re adamant about having children hold off on pets. Our younger dog is high energy and super sassy and it be SUPER frustrating and our older dog is chill that doesn’t mean we don’t love the younger dog less. Since Sav is pregnant with a toddler and added Nash she’s just tired.

Let me just say I love y’all, but I been noticing that when Josh purchase something for himself, Sav will question him down, but when Sav purchases something for herself Josh compliments her and doesn’t give her the third degree. Just sayin’

These are absolutely risks and I think Savannah is refusing to look at it as such. For some mothers there’s a risk of underlying health issues for mom or baby. There’s a risk of PPD and PPA aka Mental Health struggles. There’s a risk of financial turmoil in having kids, marriage, or a dog. These are just a few examples that came to mind as Josh was trying to explain what he meant. I think her view really came off super privileged.

This one was interesting. My husband and I have agreed that we will always have a dog unless we are not able to give it a quality life or our lifestyle changes too drastically. Even if/when we have kids, we just feel it’s helpful in teaching responsibility, compassion + a love for animals and someday, loss/ grief

I agree with Sav about not getting pets when you plan to have children or already have young children already. It’s a lot and I think it’s better to prioritize your children and family and add a pet to your family once your children are older.

I have kids and alot of pets... Could consider it a farm really!! Add a husband and running a household to that and I feel ran off my feet most days. I don't think I knew how intense all of this would be looking back now, I don't even know how I got here but somehow I did and even though it's full on I would not change it and my kids are growing up around animals! Anyone doing this too knows how wonderful that is ❤️ my kids are so compassionate and happy, they literally wake up excited to feed the animals and they even voluntarily get involved in the cleaning process! Teaches them responsibility you know. It's also usually their first experience of loss/death which while it is sad I think sheltering children from those realities until they lose a grandparent or something huge isn't such a good thing either and it is part of life. I see savs point though cause my god my dogs drove me crazy during the newborn phase 😂😂🙏

I see what Sav is saying about risks- basically when you commit to someone, there is no more “risk” because you’ve signed on to all that comes with a marriage and family. At the same time anything worth having requires risk. There are emotional risks with relationships, health risks with children, basically anything can go wrong.

With the breakup…I’ve been there we broke up because he needed to grow and change we dated again a year later he still did not change it didn’t work out again so yes I agree there does need to be change we broke up for a reason. People don’t break up just because especially if both parties want to be together. Genuinely.

Never been pregnant BUT there are a couple of healthy foods that provide energy like almonds and apples. Worth looking into if you wanna stay away from caffeine. Love your podcast btw!

When you are ready to throw up what helped me and I got like food poisoning over a strawberry was taking a raw probiotic and I literally open the capsule and dumped it in my mouth. Also I'm only telling you this because I love you I used to drink diet as well It's not only not good for the baby but it's not good for your body cuz anything that's got aspartame or artificial sweetener in it has a high chance of at some point getting cancer and it's really bad for the brain it gives dementia an Alzheimer's and they proven that it makes holes in the brain So I had to either switch to zevia which is like a water pop that tastes so good or something that was an alternative that has stevia in there but not aspartame or any of the other names that are really bad artificially. Love you guys.
