Also worth mentioning, removing Alastor wouldn't just deprive us of the most entertaining character, it would also break the story. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Alastor is the deuteragonist of Hazbin Hotel. It's all on the backburner for this season, but Alastor's admittedly minimal involvement in Season One is clearly setting up very important story beats for future seasons, namely his servitude to Lillith. For god's sake, he appears in the thumbnail of the pilot along with Charlie, a treatment neither Moxxie nor Stolas, the deuteragonists of Helluva Boss, received. If that's not an indication that he's important I don't know what is.

Alastor is a fun character. If the season was written to focus on him more, rather than others, I would be just as happy. To me, just having the characters explored more because of the space added from removing other characters who don't say much is the point. Whether it was Alastor or not, to me, isn't the biggest deal because eventually most (if not all) characters will be explored in some way, shape or form, so the order of how we receive them is not the biggest of deals.

I mean honestly the fact "critics" resort to constant nitpicks when the issue is addressed by the majority. Honestly, what happened to straightforward criticism? There's absolutely insane haters as well, and not just for Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss gets the same treatment, it depends on where you go since I'm in one community that just adores both shows, but at the same time, some places I mention the show I'll have to deal with people just essentially complaining about it or going out of their way to hate on it, I don't deal with the crazy fans as much as the crazy haters, but I have dealt with someone saying the show isn't for me just because I don't like the singing as much, I mean I don't mind the singing anymore really, I just felt like in a couple episodes the songs were kinda not the best

Set up can be good, saying "it's just set up" doesn't excuse it for being rushed, they could've cut stuff out or just slow the story. Everything feels weak, Vaggie and Charlie, the main protagonist have no time to breathe, stuff just happens and move on. Ep 6 could've easly been ep 8, giving a cliffhanger while leaving more eps to make a solid story. And again, even Alastor felt weird.

Setup for season 2 is no excuse. If some plot element won't matter until season 2, then it shouldn't be focused on until season 2. I walked away from the finale wondering why the V's were in this show at all because they barely did anything. If felt like the show was setting them up as a big threat, and then nothing happened. Yes, I can guess they'll be important later, but right now, it just feels like the show wasted a lot of time developing characters who have nothing to do with this story. Meanwhile, almost everybody else was in desperate need of more screen time. You lose very little story-wise if you remove Vox and Velvet entirely and save their intros for season 2. They need to balance setting things up for the future, and writing a season arc that has a sense of closure. By way of comparison, Avatar didn't introduce Azula until the very end of the first season, and her existence was only acknowledged in passing a couple times before that. The V's should have gotten a similar treatment.

Yeah, the pacing is bad and not much is done with the hotel actually redeeming sinners. You basically get the broad strokes. It's impressive the show is received as well as it is

The best character is even rushed, like bruh, people thinking this is peak is beyond me. I thought i was going to love this show (I didn't even have high hopes, no overhyped for me), i liked the ideas, but the execution was rushed as heck, still decent, but nowhere near amazing.

He does change quite quickly lol. That's why I would've preferred to focus on one Vee.

**I'VE GOT THEORIES I MUST SHARE!!!!** 1) A theory about Alastor's shadow and his backstory and his demon deal 2) A theory about Alastor's 7 year disappearance 3) Theories about Alastor's motives and plans 4) A theory why Alastor rose to power quickly 5) A Nifty backstory theory Anyone got any theories about Alastor's shadow and it's involvement in his background? I've noticed that his shadow seems to have a mind of its own and is a separate personality from Alastor. I have two theories as to why this is: A) It's the demon/entity that owns his soul and/or just keeps an eye on him on behalf of his master or B) In life Alastor had DID from a traumatic upbringing and had a Jeckle and Hyde sort of personalities and the shadow is one of his Alters. Alters are separate personalities but cannot exist without the host and body kinda like how your shadow cannot exist without you. I think B) is the most likely if they've put actual thought into it vs it just being a little quirky. My theories about his history as a human: He was raised by his creole mother who did the majority of the raising essentially as a single mother and he and his mother were badly abused by a POS deadbeat narcissist father/husband... perhaps even sexually abused if the writers want to get that dark. It might be a reason why he's Ace (not saying ace people are only ace as a trauma response, just fyi) and why he had such a low opinion of Charlie's dad because he knew he was absent and only called his daughter if he needed something. Perhaps his mother was murdered by his father but he was powerless to stop him or get revenge because he was physically smaller and skinny. He turned to voodoo/hoodoo whatever and summoned a demon to make a deal selling his soul to give him power to kill his father and others like him. After taking revenge and murdering his father he became a serial killer and went after abusers and bullies but not necessarily in a vigilante sort of more moral way. He had little empathy for the victims of the abuse and did what he did to the abusers not for their victims but simply because he was fueled by hate and was addicted to the feeling of being powerful. He'd mercilessly kill victims of abuse too if they lied for the abusers and/or kept going back to them and making excuses. He's a sociopath/ Psychopath/ BPD or at least one of his Alters is and he's definitely a narcissist, even a vunerable narcissist and perhaps before his deal he was a covert narcissist without power. He'd often fish for future victims at the club where Mimzie preformed and he struggled with alcoholism and fighting his own personal demons (his Alters and mental illness, PTSD etc) as well as having to deal with the actual demon that owns his soul demanding more and more victims with the deal being that he won't collect Alastor's soul so long as he continued to work for him and kill. He worked as a radio station host or a related role and he struggled to keep his work life and serial killing balance. He died as a result of him not keeping up the demands of the demon, or by complete accident by a deer hunter as he was hiding a body or by running away from a police search party that was hunting him down in the woods after his secret gets 'outted'. ... I can't get behind the theory that Lilith is forcing him to protect Charlie... he's not exactly someone a parent would want around their child given he's a former...SERIAL KILLER. My theory is he only went missing for 7 years because Lilith went missing and he was desperately trying to find her...not because he cared for her but because he couldn't find a way to wiggle out of the deal through loopholes or blackmail or whatever if he can't even find her and/or communicate with her. For all he knew she was dead or being held captive by somebody who's one more powerful person in between him and his freedom. He only "returned" because he witnessed Lilith's daughter on TV looking extremely vulnerable, naive, pathetic and thought to himself, "Here's a young emotionally vunerable person who's potentially more powerful than either of her parents or almost their equal...I could totally manipulate and gaslight her for my own agenda." Perhaps he hopes to gain Charlie's trust to "guide her" (as he mentioned to Rosie and he also mentioned how powerful she likely is) and manipulate her in order to manipulate Lilith, have leverage etc. Perhaps he thinks she'd be powerful enough to break his deal if he asked...which is likely what he sorta hinted at when he made a deal with Charlie "Ask one little favor that'll hurt no one...." because it technically wouldn't immediately hurt anyone to break his deal but I suspect once he's free it will backfire tremendously and he'll need to be stopped. I don't think he really feels much for the inhabitants of the hotel and he wasn't risking himself to protect his "friends" because he cares... its because he's become that desperate for freedom and more power. His panic after the battle is not because he realizes he cares for people or because he's being forced to protect them....its because he's realizing just how desperate he is and how vulnerable he truly is having fought with and witnessed infinitely more powerful people. His vulnerable narcissism is causing him a crisis after being defeated. He's a powerful overlord and probably is used to winning but hasn't fought other more physically/ politically/ powerful demons of higher class before and he's like the embodiment of self confidence and narcissism. I could totally see him being power hungry enough and bloodthirsty and ruthless enough to want to rule all of Hell. ... I have no theories as to whom owns his soul if it's not Lilith, but perhaps one explanation as to why he rose quickly in power was because he amassed such a body count that his master became very powerful in he'll as a result and they're not willing to give up controlling Alastor even after his death. Or if you've killed a lot of people in life you'd be more powerful as a demon? But I don't like that idea as much because then Hitler would be a big deal in Hell or something. ... Just a thought...what if.... Nifty was Alastor's much younger and equally traumatized/damaged sister (Nikki, Nevaeh, Nadine or Naomi)? "Nifty" could simply be her nick-name. Her OCD could be a trauma response because their father would beat them if the house wasn't spotless and perhaps their mother was physically disabled, depressed or too exhausted from multiple jobs for spotless housecleaning. What if she "lost it" when her older brother (whom she was dependent on after both parents died and he's all she had left) started killing people and she obsessively cleaned away the bloody evidence in fear of her brother being caught and "taken away" or even killed (He apparently was mixed race Creole after all, during a time of frequent lynching... so he'd more likely be just killed rather than arrested and face a trial)...or worse, he made her clean up after him and perpetuated the cycle of abuse just like his father? And even more tragic... what if Nifty killed herself or starved to death or was killed after Alastor died? One thought though, would Nifty canonically be half Japanese because Kimiko Glenn (the voice actor) is? In this day in age of cancel culture would that matter, especially in regards to voice acting demon characters? Because, that would make this little theory less plausible unless Alastor's father married a Japanese woman after getting away with murder of Alastor's mother and Nifty would be a step sister. Apparently there was at least 17 Japanese people in Louisiana around the 1900s according to a quick Google search so it's not impossibly far fetched... it also would explain why Nifty is so much younger than her big brother. Perhaps Mimzie "baby sat" Nifty at the club from time to time while Alastor was out murdering people. What if he justified killing to little Nifty by saying his victims were no different than bugs in need of extermination? ...that's dark... Also Nifty "likes the leash" because she's always been dependent and controlled by Alastor so she feels no different about him than she did in life. What if Nifty is able to restore some humanity to Alastor because he realizes how important she is to him and that he does care for at least one other person than himself?

Alastor only became a cannibal after he died

Yeah, I think for velvet to exist, we need a enemy/relation for her. Angel has Val, alastor has vox, and I feel like velvet could either befriend charlie, and weaken the vee's, or she could beef with a new character

Yeah it surprised me as well tbh, like I know Helluva Boss has serious subjects in it as well, like how we learn that Moxie's dad is abusive, but I seriously didn't expect them to show some of the bad stuff the porn industry does sometimes, especially because in Helluva Boss they literally made Asmodeus, the sin of lust, seen as more as a good guy, so I really didn't expect them to cover a problem some people in the porn industry have to deal with

I'm glad someone understands this. A lot of people who end up in the industry come from a troubled struggling background. I gotten crap for defending people from the industry as human beings. Its unfair to judge people for making money how they can. On top of the fact we already sexualize certien groups of people and make them feel like sex is all they are good for. People need to understand that things are not always so black and white.

I definitely agree. There's practically infinite ways to write something, and you probably could've written something that included all of the characters, but I personally just like this alternative better.

I think they could have worked out the pacing issue with the episodes they have if they had just split them into two separate arcs. The first half could be specifically dedicated to the hotel, and the second could mainly be used to explore Heaven.

Agreed. Heaven should've been saved for next season.

Fionna and Cake didn't set up a lot of characters in the first two episodes.

Fiona and Cale had the benefit of being a spin off and already having most of the lore in Adventure time. Hazbin hotel had some lore in Helluva already covered but not any characters or plot elements

I agree, he serves a great dynamic with Charlie and I am interested to see where he goes with Lucifer. I just haven't been convinced that this has to happen in this season.

Even when you look at the Wiki it says it's not her name. Adam named her Vagina that's her actual name she chooses to go by Vaggie. Whatever Vivzie said prior to the show being bought is to be taken with a grain of salt and not considered canon unless confimed in the show. The characters didn't just get visual redesigns even some of their backstories were redesigned. Vaggie wasn't an angel originally either. She was a sinner. So the fact that he keeps calling her Vagetha when the Show itself had Vaggie outright say that isn't her name doesn't make any sense.

@@Yami-mugoni613 regardless of who’s the writer, it’s bad pacing. And this problem goes back as far as the pilot on RU-vid a few years ago. Sir Pentious is established as a loser antagonist. Cherri is introduced. Angel is established as the Hotel’s only guest. Alastor shows up, wanting to help. Husk and Nifty are both immediately put to work at the hotel. This is enough for material for like 3-4 episodes.

For example, Husk and Nifty should’ve been an episode 2 thing instead of cramming them in at the last few minutes. At least so there’s more time to get to know them.

Yeah, and I do want to see more of Alastor, but preferably sticking to a theme he can explore, so that we have depth with the character. How he is now, there's a lot of things that start (rivalry with Vox, ownership of Husk's soul, rivalry with Lucifer) but aren't explored, and quite frankly aren't as important as other plot points in the show

Because Lilith is who she called and she literally said during the call "Maybe Dad was right about me" because that doesnt make sense, Lucifer clearly found her Hotel and dream a joke and pointless but this is by Viv so I dont care, her writing is complete axx topped with a polished turd as whipped cream.

Exactly, in all these four years of waiting, alastor has always been the most talked about character, you say hazbin hotel, the first Character that comes to mind is Alastor.

I think a large thing people are overlooking is build up Some things you can't wait to show in season 2 because of runtime so you introduce it later and the Vees will most likely be a big part of it
