Very nice lines. I love Henriksen amps for Jazz. At the time I wanted to buy a small Jazz amp, the Bud was not out yet, so I went with a Quilter-which I also love. Great Playing man!
I've been buying different Amplifiers and I have discovered that the tone of your Amps is golden if you pick the right one for sounds you desire. That being said, buying a Amplifier for that is designed for the Genre you are playing is important to get the tone and sound you want to dig out the music that in your heart and soul. I just bought a Henriksen 112 er and a polytone mini brute sonic bass. Both Amplifiers are Jazz Amps and after watching your RU-vid video I think I do want a two channel Jazz Amplifier also. Still jumping in the rabbit hole!
Hey Man , great playing ! i just wanted to ask you a question cos i finally got a bud six and its sound is incredible but it makes a bit of noise when i turn the bluetooth on, i just wanted to know if you also have this noise on bluetooth?!
Very nice overview & great playing. I’ve been using a Bud for a few years now & it’s served me beautifully. It takes pedals really well & is great throughout an extended sonic range (I use an EHX Pitchfork, so I cover 5-6 octaves). I just purchased a Blu to use as a practice/backup/smaller gig alternate amp after I became concerned about the amount of miles I’ve been putting on the Bud during extended self-quarantine :) Gonna give the Bud some down time. As a violinist I have different requirements, somewhat. I don’t need the bright switch so I won’t miss it. I need a warm accurate sound & the Bud & Blu both deliver! Thanks again for such a thorough assessment.
Great perspective and playing, thx. I got the Blu and mostly play a tele through it and am completely happy with the sound (and size, weight and overall quality). Haven't tried the Bud but don't need two channels. Cannot detect a bit of difference between tweeter on or off. I'm thinking it's mostly for acoustics(?)
I bought the blu initially and it's a great amp. I had it for about 4 days and absolutely loved it. I kept going back to Mr. Music (great guitar store for you gtr geeks in Massachusetts) and kept plugging into the Bud and really felt the $300 different was worth it. The 2 channels and the tweeter sold me on it. The tweeter really helps me not only on my acoustics but on my 175 as well. Sometimes the PAF sounds darker than I want it and the tweeter gives it a nice top end clarity closer to my D'angelico which has a floating pickup and has greater clarity...great amps either way.
I have a Bud. Have had since 2015. Has been out for around 1000 gigs and jam sessions. I have had a mic plugged in occasionally. I don’t notice a volume change, but seems to have an effect on my tone. I don’t think I would allow a bass player to plug in. I have an upright bass. I called the factory and they wouldn’t make any commitment on my trying to play bass through the amp. Have had Peavy, Yamaha, Fender, Polytone and JazzKat. My Bud has had the best sound with no headaches.
Nice video. Does it sound like your Jazz 10? How is it different? I have a Jazz 12 and was considering the Bud. If weight wasn't an issue, would you still prefer the Bud over the 10? Thanks
I would have to say that although I enjoy both sounds I prefer flatwounds even on a tele. Flats sound better and have a warmer dark brown tone. Also if you play a lot of fingerstyle guitar you hear less noise
Great playing. Does it have the blutooth aux input to jam over backing tracks ? did you try it with pedals (tubescreamer , modulations, ...) very good review
great review. could you briefly compare these(bud and blu) with original(?) Henriksen jazz amp 110 please?? where i came from its hard to compare all of those :(
The original Jazzamp 110 which I had for over 6 or 7 years was and is a perfect amp. There is really no sonic difference between that amp, the Bud, or the Blu. The latter two just come in smaller packages. Having said that the 110 (which I guess now is a 310) I used to use as a bass amp as well yes even with a small speaker which was 10 inch. But the speaker on the Blu and Bud are 6' and it still sounds fat and holds the bottom.
Gotta disagree. It’s flawless. Great tone, power, portability and reliability. I’ve had it on about 1000 gigs and jam sessions, including organ trios, in some pretty noisy venues. Has always sounded great.
I thought that too, until I actually played through one. They are incredible amps. You can find some used ones at a decent price. I just bought a bud 10 for $800 on reverb.
I have tried half wounds I think it was D'addario and for some reason wasn't terribly impressed with them. The reason is I like flat wounds is they feel real smooth and have very little noise. Round wounds have a certain sparkle and top end that is beautiful but tends to make more string noise. For fingerstyle jazz playing I prefer flatwounds. I do like round wounds for blues, bending and rock playing. You would think you would get the best of both worlds in half rounds but for some reason that has not been my experience.
