Cavill should just play the entire Alpha Legion. It would give a great reason for him to pop up anywhere at any time. He would then be able to play two primarchs as well

This was a reply in another comment, but I thought it was worth putting out there: Regarding a recurring cameo role, this could actually be really cool if they do make him Big E - sure, his body is rotting on the throne, but a part of his mind is constantly experiencing the lives of his devout. They don't actually look like Cavill, it just looks that way to the audience so we can tell. They could establish the character briefly w/ another actor, then switch to him. Regarding Siege of Terra, certainly not right off the bat. We should probably get some flashbacks early on, but it would be a good spinoff a few seasons in.

That is a cool take! Hadn’t thought of putting him as a villain. But once you said “guardsman POV movie”, I couldn’t stop thinking that it’d be great to have big ol’ Chad Cavill as just a protein-filled guardsman, and then put him up against a chaos marine or a tyranid who’s 1.5x his size. Just Henry Cavill running for his life around battlefields, wide-eyed and sweating, an inch away from a grisly end at any time.

I absolutely agree with you, they need to go with something that people will understand without any prior knowledge of the whole universe and Astartes was exactly that - visually pleasing and easy to understand

Yea I completely agree I think the best way to approach it is from a nobody guardsmen on the front lines simple story just trying not to die, show the monsters, show the aliens show the scale show the grim dark. He should play a nobody guardsmen who dies in the first episode. And next season it could be an anthology n they could tell a completely different short story about some space marine chapter.

Honestly I think a Knight film would work really well. You could use a lot of modern-day props and locations thanks to feudal worlds being what they're like, and save all the big and expensive CG for the battles and whatnot. Transformers already exists so we know it's possible to an insane level of detail, then just have the big robots fighting Tyranids or something and boom, print money. Or Tau, so you can have big robots fight other big robots.

Think the key to success for them is to go for Space Marines in some way initially. They are the poster boys of the franchise and are easily recognisable with a lot of diversity meaning that any new comers could find something they like, and with Space Marine 2 coming out it would tie in well. In terms of roles for Henry Cavill I think a role like Valdor or a Primarch would be good, a character that doesn’t need to constantly be in the series, but can turn up at more varied opportunities without being the star while still bringing a lot of impact, meaning he could focus more on the producing and directing elements using his knowledge of the lore and setting to make it brilliant.

I thought he already went out and said he was planning on playing Roboute Guilliman with a Yvraine love story as a side story.

If anything, do a generic Guardsmen vs Necron/Tau/Nid feature and throw in a few Marines every now and then. The Marines never remove their helmets, are all voiced by Henry Cavill (with slight tonal differences) and the Guardsmen keep getting their names wrong, but keep it focussed around the Guard exploits.

Would be cool to have him as an Inquisitor, as for the show, would be cool to have the first season set on a human world that agree to join the Tau. Set from the view of a young human "resistance" fighter that is fighting against the Tau, mostly peacefully and towards the end manage to contact the "great Imperium" and have this idea built up by the rebels that the Imperium is this vast, enlightened and amazing human empire. The first one off the ship at end of the last episode of the season is Cavil as an Inquisitor that shots the planetery governor in the head and tells his people to purge the heretics.

the biggest problem is there is SO MUCH STUFF to cover in 40k. The obvious one is Horus Heresy but i think you're right. it would be too overwhelming for an average non-40k fan, as much as i want to see it. They have *cough* 18 Legions to think about. An original story set in the 41st would be easiest to do and they could have one-off episodes linked into the main plot sort of like Band of Brothers where one episode was following the Medic. An episode following a single guardsman on a planet with a Chaos Cult happening, daemons show up and start effing their s apart and then BOOM the Ultramarines drop in and you really see the difference between "just normal men" and these super soldiers. oooh maybe instead of that, the Guardsman is on Cadia? and maybe the main story is set during 13th Black Crusade. As other commenters have said a spinoff/flashback to the Heresy could work after a season or two, might not be the best comparison, but like how Star Wars episode 1-2-3 was "how Anakin became Vader" "how Abaddon became the Despoiler"

I would attribute my 40K interest very much so to Astartes. I would’ve never left Total War: Warhammer 3 and joined the actual table top side if not for that animation. Glad it gets the recognition it deserves time and time again!

I actually love the idea of Abaddon as you could have Henry drop into both 40k and 30k stories, but not be a huge amount of screen-time. Like a member of the main cast for the Heresy TV show but the main BIG Bad for season 1 of the 40k show. If Henry is going the be the MAIN character (Witcher style) I think it's be cool to cast him as the Emperor, but I'd want the show to be about the great crusade. You could have a younger, scrapper war general big E, the creation of the Primarchs and making "deals" with Chaos God's, the creasing of Terra and the Thunder Warriors and then the start off the Astartes. Then Henry could play the Emps in Heresy and 40K stories as cameos and flash backs etc

I think they should learn from the failures/successes of video game show adaptations with their fanbases, on how to tell a well loved story to new audiences. For me, they could do so much more storytelling with an animated series. The scale of war, psychic abilities, the sheer scale of everything, without CGI/CGI funding limits. 40k anime of the fall of terra would be dope. 10/10 would consume that. but tau only would be pretty... on the nose for an anime lol. like i would enjoy a farsight anime but i think if they followed farsight as a xenos, someone from chaos and someone from the imperium that all end up in some battle fighting over the same object/planet and then BOOM tomb world or nids show up or a WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!! rides through and its just a battle of the five armies kind of ending i would be to the moon forever with it.

Desolation of Baal TV show would be cool. Blood Angels vs Tyranids. Somewhat generic storyline, with some extra blood angel spice added in. Epic fight and a good way to build into the world too

Henry Cavill is stoo cool to be wasted on Failbaddon the Armless. Primarch, a Custodes, Big E or Inquisitor Eisenthorn are acceptable roles.

Honestly I said I would like to see Cavill play Abaddon aswell. As you said he can play a villain very well, it would fit for his scheduling better, he would be a recurring, influential and focal character for a long time keeping him an active part of the universe, and he would do the best in terms of redeeming the character. Everyone hates on Abaddon because his 13 crusades are thought to be a retcon-into-badass move by GW but the liber daemonica I believe in 2003 mentions his black crusades and the goals of each, so the plan was always there, but despite that he's still hated. I think Cavill is the best shot at making Abaddon a good villain

I'd like to see him, play a Rogue Trader, captaining a small vessel with a plucky, intrepid crew. They could literally end up anywhere, meeting anyone (or any THING) and getting up to all manner of shenanigans. I would NOT want to see a show about Custodes, because Custards as booooring.

Ok, hear me out on this one... Do a Band of Brothers style Imperial Guard defending an Imperial world, with a renegade/chaos Guard enemy. Then introduce a new threat late season 1/beginning of season 2 as the Drukhari start raiding.. then: BOOM! Cavill as Lelith Hesperax!
