This is my final entry for my series on House of Dragon. I think this season was not criticized enough. People are too willing to let its flaws go, but not me. I am here to watch and point my finger at the ugly face of bad writing!
Season 2 would have been much better if Rhaenyra and Alicent had waged war out of revenge for deaths of Luke and Jaehaerys. Instead, we have them driven by a desire for peace. It's doesn't make sense. Can you imagine if Catelyn Stark want to make peace with Lannisters after Jaime paralyzed her son?
I completley agree, there is such an obvious emotional lead into the deeper conflict here idk why they didn't use it. Peace is impractical at this point, the fact that nobody seems to understand this is annoying.
Nah, who wants a budgeted fantasy show about psychopaths on dragons, when we can get one about feminists mucking about doing anything to avoid waging the war that's already being waged. I count myself blessed for having the foresight to not pay to watch this long-winded DEI slop.
You can tell the writers are hired based on political reliability and “networking” rather than talent. Imagine spending tens of millions of dollars on this toilet tissue scriptwriting
Reahneyra introducing all the bastards at once to the dragon, was the stupidest thing I've seen in a game of thrones story since Arya unalived the knight king.
I much prefered season 1. And I agree with you, Season 2 has its flaws. For instance, I'm critical of how women characters were written in this season. But I don't think season 2 was shitty television. It remains an entertaining piece of media. I really enjoyed seeing how the war between the Greens and the Blacks affect the realm in different ways. I love the place given to the smallfolk in this season. It gave us an important glimpse into the politics of war. I like how geopolitics starts to play a greater role in the story. Equally, I liked seeing how the Greens conquered the coast to cut off Rhaenyra on Dragonstone. I also enjoyed seeing Jace on his diplomatic missions to the north and to the Twins. I also think it's a stretch to say Season 2 of HOTD undermines George RR Martin's legacy as a writer. He sold over 90 million books in 45 different languages. That's the legacy. Loved your videos and sense of humour! You earned my subscription!
Thats a fair take man I can see where you're coming from. Jace was one of the better characters this season I agree. To clarify I wasn't saying that these shows undermine George's legacy so much as his time devoted to them. Never completing the books will be the thing that tarnishes his reputation. I appreciate the feedback though, glad you enjoyed it even though you don't fully agree. You helped get me to 500 subs, something that made my day so thanks a ton! Made my day
Hollywood has a long (long) *long* history of ruining great television by stretching stories out way past the point of good taste. The Boys, HOTD, etc are just the latest victims in this decades long campaign to milk properties until nothing but dust comes out. That isn't to say the only problem with HOTD is the terrible pacing, but I have a theory that a well paced show with mediocre plot or characters or action etc will always be better received than a show with terrible pacing if for no other reason than people won't feel like they wasted nearly as much time on something they didn't like. I wish we'd have series that were planned out A to Z from the start and weren't meant to be milked for as long as possible. Imagine that world (because it will never exist).
George will never finish the book series, because I don't think he has an idea on how to do it in a satisfying way. That is why he's stalling. I know it goes against the persona, but I think it'd be rather nice if you made a video on a show you enjoyed. I'm willing to be your couch buddy for binging purposes, especially if it includes the Shah of Iran.
Lol yeah if I was a gambling man I would bet on him dying before he finishes it, hopefully another author can finish it for him but apparently he doesn’t want that. I think it's funny that you guys thought this would turn out differently. Going into this they had word for word the same press tour. George literally said word for word the same things before game of thrones. And season 1 game of thrones is the Semiramis tammuz story with a few changes.
House of the dragon neglects alot of things that happens in fire and blood the fact that there was battles, more alliances that daemon has made also jacaerys i mean their could have been 5-6 seasons if they told the story right they overlook their own storylines that they created... they skip and minimize, take away and add things that doesnt move the story at all and makesno sense,like why would rhaenys burst through the dragonpit to kill innocents and not burn the ones she would fight later.. because it wasnt her war to start? But then it becomes unimpactful it was just to stir the pot, to rile up the viewers of whats to come, but it is ineffectful instead the thing is WHY the whole thing is COMPLETELY UNNECCESSARY especially when rhaenys was never in kingslanding and if she did that would have burned them down not to embolden them it was just bad writing and they never again mention it, they doing the same with rhaenyra in making her desperate and calling her ruthless.. rhaenyra is desperate to put all them people in one place just for vermithor to burn them all and accept only one rider, that ran thru budget with unnecessary scenes of the dragons as DAEMON SAID " THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO USE THE DRAGONS.. BETTER WAYS" when i review the story its weak, the characters are weak therefore so is the story.. they minimize daemon just name him lord protector and his motivations is for his family, the realm, and the war he never stayed in harrenhall for a remainder of his time in the riverlands he actually did more than just sit there.. but they want him to be just dark instead of light and dark... they are weakening and minimizing the story and the characters they are mentioning how war is horriboe and bad and the war will be bloody and unlike any other that they have given it to the dragons i mean stating the bloody obvious they did it with all of them with rhaenyra considering to give up her claim to rule and whatsbeen hers since she was a little girl before aegon because she the oldest and more of targaryen blood than her half siblings and rhaenyra fears kingslaying she wouldnt kill them or give an order of their death THIS IS WHY THE GREENS FEAR DAEMON TARGARYEN AND LORD PROTECTOR OF THE REALM BECAUSE HE IS RHAENYRA GREATEST WEAPON sackings of duskendale by king aegon II before going to rooks rest i think they neglected this because they want to show aegon as a fool and ignorant of his council what because he wasnt taught? They doing the same with rhaenyra because she was taught to know castles and names she isnt been taught right despite having the most powerful people on her side being strategic and cunning and has the most dangerous and vile member in their house as her husband.. they making it seem as without daemon rhaenyra would have faltered i admit daemon is an great advantage but she also had alot of advantages to her daemon was neccessary and fit for this war him and rhaenys and corlys lived one last time for this war.. aegon has the most brilliant minds on his side and daemon takes stone hedge from the greens ... i also dislike that i didnt get famous dialogue from the characters.. like otto saying " you only lost the one eye. How could you be so blind". The fact that aemond thought he would be (thanked for delivering first blood) which is why otto was angry because he wanted to make rhaenyra and daemon to be seen as the OFFENDERS INSTEAD OF DEFENDERS of their claim GREAT THING ABOUT THE BOOK THEY DON'T HAVE FAVORTISM OR MAKE US CHOOSE THEY LET US COME TO OUR OWN CONCLUSION.. Daemon also wanted the greens to have the first act.. the books also make things clear that the show minimizes like when heirs are killed and innocent boys and also the greens are at fault for rhaenyra miscarriage "they killed my only daughter and they will pay for it" "only one would rule, a childs death could cause the world to burn".. i understand George criticism on the show about maelor because his death does unravel a load of events.. like haelenas suicide..
I agree on everything... except for the first argument. I never understood the logic of "it doesn't matter/it's irrelevant because it all leads to a disaster (Arya killing the NK and so on)". House of the Dragon can be its own thing, its own characters, its own story. What they should've done is distance themselves from the original show (basically the opposite to what they went with).
Thats a good point, i address it in the video that some people can separate the two shows which is fair. I have a hard time with it myself, and yeah had they not tried to steer towards GoT then it would have been easier.
Nothing can compare to ROP thats for sure ahaha, it brings a tear to all our eyes. I made a video on the orcs recently it was horrible watching what they have done to the lore
I have to disagree on the point of Rheanys' death, I interpreted as a suicide. Reasons: she found out Corlys had bastards, her children are dead, she was very worried about a dragon war happening she knew that she just started it by taking out Aegon so she thought (either I end it now or I die here and wont have to suffer anymore).
Take away the dragons and war is WEAK THE CHARACTERS ARE WEAK and of couse isnt at their full potential as their book counterpart, take away the dragons and the story is unimpactful and minimizing forget about fire and blood for a moment, hbo story doesnt make much sense...
This season had both great moments and both terrible moments, the battle at rooks rest is just outstanding, best dragon battle ever put to screen, the ost, the camera shots, the sowing of seeds is masterfully done, but the ending and blood and cheese are the lows, still i have faith in this show
