The film is a masterpiece. I first saw it in 2000 on VHS with a bunch of friends. When it was over we immediately went out clubbing. The film is so accurate and the characters are great and so relatable.
That movie was a blast.... saw it pretty late.... but that was my life in my mid twenties.... Love interesst, friendship, substances, family conflicts.... And the feeling of growing out of beeing young.... A movie at the puls of time!
It is a great film, i remember when it had a small release in America people coming out said they liked it but didnt understand it all and they thought it was gonna be about human trafficking. Anyway you did a good desription of this film, very enjoyable video. P,S the guy who done spliff politics was Howard Marks very famouse ex drug importer.
I'm very surprised to see a non-British person enjoy the movie. Surprised because it is massively British centric and also so true to era that I thought it was hard to get everything. I've shown this movie to my nephews who are British but just didn't get it. Much like something like the TV show The Inbetweeners, it doesn't usually travel well. The drug use in this masterpiece is very well portrayed because it gives the watcher a vision into the good and bad. It is true to life in a way most other movies cannot even get close.
I first saw it at the Portland Film Festival here in Oregon. People loved it. The audience was super into it and got all the jokes. Maybe it's British centric but I think it's pretty understandable to people outside that. I was a teen in the 90s and while my friends weren't exactly ravers they did love electronic music, particularly jungle. So all of that came across the same. As well as the molly stuff, both good and bad. I think the movie hits a really great tone that today reminds me of edgar wright or similar. I've introduced it to many friends over the years and a couple times it's had people laughing so hard they nearly passed out. Great movie.
