Just rewatched this film for the first time in ages. It takes me back that period in my life more than any other film. It’s about as close as you can get on film to the reality of that scene. I am pretty sure many of the actors were actually mashed when filming. It’s the little details that make it real. As a now 48 year old man with wide and mortgage and kids I look back on those mad times in the 90s with much nostalgia. Great times.

I am STILL waiting for a Blu-ray release... perhaps in 2024 for a 25th anniversary edition

I remember going to see a 20th anniversary screening of this at the cinema in London. Admittedly it wasn’t the best experience as the picture quality was worse than DVD and the film froze half way through. I hope this does get a blu ray release, I had read that the director lost the rights for the film though.

Very much a film of it's time but still such a fun watch, definitely agree it needs a Blu Ray release surprised it hasn't had one as it's become a cult favourite at least in the UK and Ireland. Maybe someone like Arrow can release this and give it special edition treatment. It's a shame Justin Kerrigan, the director and writer of the film has only done one film since with the underrated I Know You Know with Robert Carlyle. As Kerrigan showed a lot of talent of been a very good director with this film, some stuff doesn't quite work for me but with a excellent soundtrack and great performances from the always great John Simm, Shaun Parkes even Danny Dyer is prefect in this.

This film reverberated then because it isn't just close to how we were living then, it's a carbon copy. A weekend adventure that we knew we'd had, but couldn't remember. Apparently there has been a second instalment announced and even crowd funded but I for one hope it stays were it is with perhaps a blu-ray release. It perfectly captured a moment in time people of my age group look back as the best days of our lives.

Great review! I've always loved this movie but being from the USA I've only seen the "sanitized" version. Aside from a couple dubs (like the Jerry Springer line) what was changed?

It was like the British version of SLC punk. Felt it knocked off that film.
