Why I’m not a feminist 

Men and women compliment each other. That's the point. Making them compete against each other is one of the great evils of modernity.

I think modern day feminism has distorted “true” feminism. 100% men & women are created equal! There are obvious differences between men & women. Important to recognize this amazing difference & not try to fuse the two

Something to think on: do you think that feminism would have reached the extremes you’ve observed (defensiveness, hyper- individualism etc) if women felt safe and valued in their individuality, and empowered by men (and for Christians, by the institution of the church) to be whatever they wanted to be- whether that be a stay at home mother or a business woman? There’s never smoke without fire- people generally only rebel against structures that are oppressive and unhealthy and that does tend to be a pendulum swing to the opposite of what they have experienced. I find it really interesting (and frustrating!) that in these conversations, it’s only ever the genesis “helper” verse that’s examined in hebrew but rarely is the same thing done for the Corinthians “submission” verse, which can also be read very differently in its context, making it much more likely to be a metaphor of military-like support than submission. There’s also extensive research suggesting that the word we’ve translated as “head” didn’t mean authority or leader until long after the letters were written, but rather “origin”, as in, created first. It's also frustrating that these messages are always directed at women, challenging them to change behaviour that is birthed in pain and oppression, without speaking first to men about their behaviour. Even if you do hold to the interpretation that men have authority over women, it is absolutely vital then that men are constantly challenged and held accountable about how they are living that out to avoid the abuse that has historically been excused under the guise of 'biblical' instruction. I can totally appreciate your point that women who want to focus on motherhood and hold to more traditional family values should absolutely be championed in that, but the desire to be a mother (and to love and support your husband well) isn’t synonymous with submission, or the opposite of what it means to be a feminist, and to imply that the healthiest marriages are ones where women accept a position of “second in command” is unhelpful

This is an interesting perspective as I am a non-believer and disagree with much of what you said about Christianity. However, I definitely agree that feminism has made wanting to be a wife and mother seen as less 'valuable' than wanting to have a career, and there's nothing wrong with women caring for their husbands, cooking, cleaning etc. This is a good thing and it doesn't make women 'oppressed'. A relationship is give-and-take and should involve both parties taking care of each other in different ways. And yes, men asking women out, paying on dates, holding open doors etc is a very good thing and in my experience most men do still behave like this. There's a few who don't but the majority do.

From the description only, this seems a privileged and Western view... In some places in the world, women don't have equal access to healthcare and education. Armed conflict affect men and women differently. Climate change affects women disproportionately. Just because one believes in feminism doesn't mean one hates men! That's a common misconception. While no movement is perfect, feminism has done a lot of good for society. For example, UN-Women advocates for equality and non-iscrimination directed to men also. Without feminism, many laws discriminating men would not have been found or countered (think RBG). As one brother on Salt told me, feminism is the radical belief that women are people too! It is just about giving a "real choice" to all genders in all spheres of life, whether to stay at home or work, or over their bodies (to honour God), or to get an equal wage at work, etc. Giving choice is what God gave us and taking it away or limiting it is doing more than God did. Some men want to stay at home, too. A lot of people don't see mere equality as threatening. While I understand this is just one person's view, and a valid one I'm looking forward to, if polarising views are to be discussed, and many have biblical basis on both sides, both sides (or more) should be discussed!
