Flexibility is one of the important factor that we chose to be in public accounting. And learning is yet another one. Very inspiring video. Keep up the good work Tanner! 👍

Thank you so much, Anamika! Appreciate the kinds words and couldn’t agree with you more 😁. You continue to be a prime example of how one can succeed and have a long (and happy) career in public accounting through your willingness to learn and grow.

"why do people stay longer than their sanity allows them to?" 😅 - "we thrive on being challenged" respect for managers and partners in public accounting firms 👐

As a 22 yrs audit staff at EY here in Brasil, what drives me the most is the challenges and opportunities that a public accounting company can offer me! That sensation that you are delivering value to the client and every single day learning something new is unpayable! Besides the crazy work hours sometimes, I think that's worthy.

I completely agree with you Mateus! That feeling of doing and providing meaningful work in the form of providing value to clients is such a valuable aspect of this profession. Like you said the hours can be crazy but the wealth of knowledge you are obtaining daily can make it all worth it.

Hi, I am a staff accountant that started in the field by doing bookkeeping for small businesses. What are the risks and rewards of moving from private to public?

Amazing question and it’s a path that is less often taken. Not sure of the scope of your current work as it relates to bookkeeping but a reward by moving to public accounting into assurance is that it would really allow you to zoom out of that role. See more than just the recording and reporting side of processes. Allow you to asses and analyze various company processing from initiation to reporting to address risks. One risk that that you’ll likely work more - will certainly learn a lot but will come at a cost of time.

What is the first year salary ? 2cd & 3rd?
@TannerCoxCPA

It certainly varies based on service line and city. In audit for example you could see $62-67k depending on the cost of living of your city. Would then say you can expect a 5-7.5% raise after first year and then likely 12.5%-20% after your second year in promotion to Senior.

Who doesn't enjoy some degree of pain that comes with being challenged? ;)
