Wuon Odidi. You are doing just fine. I came back with my son when he was 4 years old and so he pretty much started Kindergaten in Kenya through High School though British system. He is a a sophoremore in College back in the USA and even though struggling with racism and all that, one thing I keep telling him is that he has another home and family in Kenya and has roots unlike other African Americans who have nowhere to go to. My daughter is in 8th grade and eventually will be back in the USA for college. You just have to be close with your kids and instill your own family and christian values and let them express themselves and share thibgs with you. Girls tend to be more close to fathers and boys to the mothers. You are doing just fine. The foundation you are laying right now will help them in their teenage and young adult years. There is no parenting manual. You are just fine with what you are doing so far and you spending time with the kids is invaluable. Keep up the good work. You are fine

Omera Prof, from observation you are a great dad. Traveling to Kenya and staying in the village with American kids without their mom, you deserve many accolades. Most fathers wouldn’t know what to do. You can cook, etc. Pat yourself on the back. Your children have you 💯 and are learning so much about the world. 👍🙌🙏 They’ll tell you what a great dad you were if not already. Kudos!

You are doing well bro, your kids will learn from you. What they see. but correct them ASAP when they make a mistake, above all seek wisdom from God on how you can be a better parent than your own parents. Some friends have children in the diaspora who have no idea what dala looks like, they have no interest even in meeting their grand parents. It is ok. You are not alone. I too grew up in the village and only visitd the city for university where I met my city born wife You will be surprised how resilient kids will turn out. It is ok struggling with fatherhood parenting. As long as you have a support system is wife and family. It is different for everyone

With regards to your daughter's hair, if she's in Kenya just take her to a local salon. You can get involved by helping her pick out hairstyles she likes and help her undo it from time to time. So long as she's well groomed... My little one is 2 and I have a new found respect for parents with older kids. Your doing a good job being a present father.

Thanks for Sharing you are doing fine l understand your worries but you are ON the right truck.l have struggled with Mine and they went through it Well.Expression IS good because IT helps you navigate there mind.one Thing that will make them proud IS what you have done now by providiing a Home in Africa. My son used to share more about Africa anytime we came back from Africa .And the teachers started respecting him.Because not all children do travel many spend there Long Holidays Inland .And this was a heavy plus in His side.so he couldnt allow this bullying Thing to Put him down.Diapora disciplining did with Matter as It comes and do alot of Talking.

Great subject, paired with incredible kitchen skills 😄😄👏🏾👏🏾You're doing great, JakaBlak - I've no doubt that Odidi and sister will turn out into solid African personalities. They learn more by copying and doing. Keep them involved and engaged in the activities they can tackle, and of course keep keeping it fun.

What do you mean by ‘strong Black woman?’😀You will be surprised to find that many BW in the US are rejecting that term as we speak. It has come to be seen as problematic and eroding femininity for BW. So maybe you want to evaluate if raising a SBW will be one of your goals moving forward. I doubt there will be many SBW as has been traditionally known in the near future. Thankyou for being open and honest about your struggles as father. I think you described our upbringing in Africa accurately. When it comes to sons I think you know what to do. Maybe it’s your daughter you want a bit of help with. Get rid of the idea of raising a ‘strong black woman’ 🤭Raise a woman you and a masculine man would want to marry or have stick around. Raise a woman a competent man will be attracted to. And your job would be pretty much done. Encourage her to learn some feminine trades like sewing, hair, etc when she is of age. Emphasize the importance of early marriage and marrying well. Basically do the opposite of what US culture has said a woman should be. Speak more on masculine issues from your African perspective. It’s refreshing👍🏾

That was an interesting topic but am wondering are you planning on raising your kids in Kenya and have them go back to US after high school because they will have different experiences. I can clearly see your fear, having lived in US both in east coast and west coast for 33 yrs. Raising kids in US as an immigrant is hard, its something I have been dealing with for sometime but I teach my kids to be good citizens and very strong, speak up, US is a land of opportunities and they can be anything they want to be. Great video.

@@WuonOdidi My take on raising kids in Kenya if you have the opportunity to choose has always been a NO, NO, i think, and don't take me wrong in this, it is not even a question one should have, you yourself know the gains you got with just living in the US, and i think one of the benefits you got as a jakarateng who moved to the US apart from your education is the chance to give your family(kids) the best, our parents gave us the best they could, those in US can give the best because it is there. With pros and cons in both sides, but the advantages in US just overrides the home system, that i have heard some quarters call it "selfish" to take kids to study at home however much we try to justify. Some even claim that raising your kids in the US should be one of the primary reasons why you moved there, though not clear when you moved. Sorry, the topic was "struggling with fatherhood..." i digressed.

I think you are uncecessarily anxious - if you are raising "American" kids in Kenya. They can easily assimilate. Don't try to put America into them. Let them grow as Kenyans.

First off I don’t have kids so keep that in mind. But the parenting style of the 90’s yielded better results than the soft parents out here today. When I do become a father, my word will be the end all be all. Anyone that has any questions or concerns can voice them on the way out the door. If I was you I would send them to a boarding school asap and let survival of the fittest do its thing, by the time they complete one term they will go from being Kenyan American to Kenyan Kenyan
