I’ve had my Defender for 9 months, I love it, far from perfect, I could have bought a very nice Porsche for the same price, but it’s not about speed and comfort, it’s the feeling you are driving an icon. I’ve found that a lot of people have much to say about how crap Defenders are, but they don’t seem to have ever owned one.

I went on a 4WD course in Australia. Heaps of Disco sports, Discos and a couple of Range Rover Sports. But some Aussie had a bad arse black Defender and that was the most popular car on the trail. All the Landy's were amazing off road but once Disco got a flat and one sport had some trim ripped off by the bush we drove through. The Defender was like the gang leader lol.

Love this video.. I learned how to drive for the first time when I was 12 years old (now I’m 46) in my father’s 1975 Series 3. After that one, my father had a 1980 Series 3 and a 1992 Defender 110 TDi (just like yours). So, Land Rover has been in my family blood for life. Now, I own a 1979 Series 3 (3 door wagon) and a 2014 Defender 110 (5 door wagon). Please, make another video about you and your family overlanding in your Defender..

I use mine every day (or rather, I did before lockdown) - it's my only car and has been for 11 years and about 130,000 largely trouble-free miles. Yet to find anything it can't do in real-world daily driving (so ignoring acceleration figures and top speeds over the national legal limit) that conventional modern cars can, except fit in a multi-storey car park as I have roof bars, but there aren't any of those where I live, while there are plenty of things it can do better than they can (carry 9 people, keep going when the road runs out or is hidden under snow, mud or floodwater, load up with logs etc, fit three mountain bikes, their riders and all their stuff inside, make me smile...). Mine is a slightly newer Td5 version which I find smooth, comfortable and easy to drive including longer motorway and trunk road runs between Inverness and Cornwall a couple of times a year. Land Rover changed the wiper arm fitment from the sprung push-on design on the Tdis to a threaded spindle and retaining nut on later models so they're a bit less likely to drop off. I had one drop off a Tdi once years ago during a Passplus driving test in the middle lane of the M4 during a thunderstorm. Made for an interesting few moments!

Tip from my time in the Australian Army in the 70's - soak the entire car in WD40 once a year, warm the engine spray everywhere and leave at least overnight. Never had an electrical issue no matter how many deep water crossings I did. Other benefit is a big reduction in rusted in/on bolts and fittings when you need to repair things.

Great on the farm and costs nothing to keep running. Cheap to fix. Preferred the td5, but the puma is luxury, a heater and a light clutch. Cost neutral, they hold their money better than gold and have appreciated in recent years. Suppose you wouldnt take 5 grand for that one of yours rebecca 😁.

pmailkeey no.....the circular holes in the steel wheel became elliptical as the nut worked loose - had to be replaced by a new steel wheel. Once we figured that out we could avoid it happening by cleaning mud off the wheel before we replaced the wheel nuts....there are no tarmac roads in the Falklands.

I have a 1992 200tdi 90, been my everyday car for 22 years, it was and still is my dream car. Coming up on 300,000 miles on the clock and still going strong. Looks scabby and old draws very little attention, steel wheels, no snorkel, no lift kit, no fancy spot lights, just a bog standard defender, I wouldn’t have it any other way externally. Lots of sound proofing mats on the inside. Exmoor trim tracker high back seats in the front “wolf” bench seats in the back. I still smile every time I get in and drive it.

We have fitted a Red Booster clutch to our 200 Tdi Defender 110 the clutch is now lighter than our Fiat Panda... She returns 33 mpg Driving across country from Thame to Kington and steers better than our Range Rover & Discovery the same age. Where the front points she just goes with very little steering input... I have just replaced the BFG tyres designed for serious off road use with new tyres giving a very comfortable on road ride. £240 for 4 tyres delivered in 3 days which I fitted myself then had them balanced... D110 now rides better than our other Land Rovers... I like the 200 Tdi because if she breaks down & I cant's fix it she goes home by a rescue service...

Very nice Rebecca. I'm happy to hear that you have twins. If I had my way you/others would be allowed to drive your older vehicles through London without paying road tax as you are not polluting the air given there age.

I'm glad that you love your Defender I've never driven Defender but I have driven a series 2 Land Rover and I got to tell you it was an experience possibly the worst vehicle I've ever had ... and I used to have a simca van🤣🤣🤣...Cheers Phil from Newark

When you buy a Land Rover, it hard to go back! It's personal, warts and all. Nothing really compares to a LR. Despite all the talk of breaking down, people still buy them in their thousands. Mine have been very good, no issues, what else would I have?

If and when they do break down, they are so easy and cheap to fix (at least the pre-puma ones are).

They leak oil for a reason, it lubricates the chassis from all of the rust....

The Defender like all Land Rovers before it is slow, thirsty, uncomfortable, water leaks everywhere, agricultural, less than reliable but absolutely bloody marvellous 👍🏻

Too bad. I just checked Autotrader on the prices for LRD. Most go for $50,000+. Thing is, the new Ford Bronco is coming out. Looks to be a modern version of the LRD. But it's new and modern, and comes with a warrenty...

Pretty much all of the bad points you have said can be fixed or made better. :-) Enjoy it, might see you out there one day!

I'm so jealous...Defenders run upwards of 100,000 dollars in the U.S, and they're almost impossible to find since they were limited production, luckily in florida they are quite common but when ever one goes up for sale it's about as much as a house...

Just as a GI to bring you one. They are very cheap here.

I know they are cheap overseas, but they are collector's items in the U.S. Cheapest one i seen was 17,000 and it sold like an hour after it was posted, it didn't even run
