I like using mixers for the flexibility. I'm an AV tech so I'm used to using one. I like the feel of touching knobs.

Nothing can beat a Mackie Mixer for the bang for bucks. Have a 1604cr and 24 8bus mixer from that brand and 2 pairs of HR824.

I've used mixers with my MPCs and other drum machines for years. I don't have the amount of physical space that I use to so I now run everything straight into a multichannel audio interface on separate channels just like I would run everything into a mixing console. The interface has a built-in digital DSP mixer that can be accessed from a computer. Also, I can use my DAW software as a virtual mixer with input monitoring armed for every channel. I can process each channel with plugins in realtime with very minimal latency. In fact, I don't even hear any audible latency in most cases unless I'm running a CPU intensive plugin (such as a pitch shifter or a linear-phase eq for example). I can control the virtual DAW mixer with a mouse or the touchscreen monitor. So yes, it's the best of both worlds. A few years ago, I used to run my gear through a Tascam DM4800 console, which was a big upgrade from the previous Tascam M3700 all-analog console I had before it. Relocating to a smaller space forced me to streamline my setup. As a result, I had to sell the Tascam DM4800. Great choice on buying a mixer. There is simply nothing like being able to separate your drums and other instruments to eq and process them individually. IT NAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!!!!!! One thing to keep in mind is if/when you start buying more keyboards and synths, you will eventually run out of channels. At that point, you're "gonna need a bigger boat".....I mean mixer.

Space is definitely a thing to consider nowadays. I more than likely won't be moving to anything bigger as this suits my needs now and the foreseeable future. I also used to run my devices through the software mixer console method (UAD Apollo) and that is really good but I wanted to control the sound outside of a computer so decided to go back to tracking my music the way I used to. Thanks for watching.

I arrived here pretty quickly. I remember my workflow from the late 90's, early and mid 2000's and so I knew the pieces I needed to get back to that. Music should be fun and less technical but my concern is that because it is more technical now, less people actually know what sounds good and what doesn't pre-mix and master but that's just my opinion. Thanks for watching.

No doubt! Been on the 4000 since 2002 when it dropped. Been tracking through an analog mixer the whole time. You can't replicate that sound in the box. 👍🏾
@SoundstarMusic
@SoundstarMusic Год назад
Right on! yeah, I've completely gone back out of the box for most of my production now because of the way the hardware sounds. There are a few tools I use ITB plug-in wise but that's just to add flare for certain things. 💯🔥

A mixer is very fun to use and can be quite helpful. I purchased an Audient 4816SE and a SSL Big Six. I do like them - including for the reasons that you discuss in your video.

Was that intro beat sent through that mixer? If so that's probably proof enough, that beat had real nice dynamics, which is more then just a good mix.

I got the ssl 6 but I need another mixer 1 with more inputs so I can do more. The way I use it is to output channels on my X to do what you’re gonna do with yours but the 6 doesn’t have enough faders to have total control the way I want. However it’ll get the job done. My goal is to get at least 10-12 channels so I can crank up this asr x pro I’ve been dying to learn how to use
@SoundstarMusic
@SoundstarMusic Год назад
Yeah I should've bought a 24 channel one with 16 outputs instead of 8. That way I could hook up both my MPC's and still have inputs for my other gear and track both devices instead of just one ... 👍🏾

A Placebo but if that's the sound u like then 👍, fr it's achievable Wether on that or in a DAW the listeners don't kno or care..
@vickbooz
@vickbooz Год назад
Maybe you can’t hear the difference but for those of us who can tell, the inspiration comes when creating, better sounds leads to better inspiration. The listeners will come & go but this beat making culture has standards & it’s cool if you choose or can’t meet certain sound standards. The choice is yours & some listeners care

Maschine user here I’m saving up for a mixer now to use as an interface as well. Trying to figure out if I want a digital or st8 analogue version, so this is great research 4 me. If you have any thoughts or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated…
@SoundstarMusic
@SoundstarMusic Год назад
I'd say since you are using maschine and you want the mixer to be used as an interface for you system, then a digital one makes more sense. Digital ones still have 1/4' ins and outs on them but they also give yo a ton of other features like effects and various other routing options to control different things so look into those. 👍🏾

What mixer did you buy? I want a mixer for my Dawless setup. But most mixers have mostly mono channels. Which is good for individual instruments, but not for stereo synths
@SoundstarMusic
@SoundstarMusic Год назад
I purchased the Mackie 1604VLZ4. Stereo synths can be connected to mixers. Just take the outputs of the synth and plug them directly into two available inputs on the mixer and adjust the faders to match accordingly. In the case with mine once I set the faders and parameters I want, I can then send that pair to a stereo subgroup and just control one fader instead of two. 👍🏾💯
