@HAWKEYE Good question! In VA the answer is a solid "Yes". The property owner is liable in just the same way as in a home intrusion where the intruder gets hurt while breaking into your house. The intruder, or the family, can sue the homeowner. This concept is profoundly confusing and I'm curious how that law was ever tested in the Supreme Courts. But for today, it is what it is.
Right. At my house a bit further north, I have a 4 foot fence across the front. Just about anyone could jump it. It is not really there to keep people out. It is there so I know if I find someone inside the fence line, I already know they are up to no good without having to play 20 questions.
I'll never forget the early morning I walked out on my porch and noticed my horse staring intently at the top of the driveway. Our security light does not illuminate that far up. I shone my flashlight in that direction, expecting to see a deer. To my shock a car started and it's lights turned on! It drove up to my absent neighbor's property where it could turn around and came back down in a hurry. I contacted my neighbor that morning and told them what happened. With in 3 days they had a heavy duty security gate installed! There's been no further trouble.
I REALLY LIKE your creative MacGyver pipe extensions to raise the height of the fence. Nicely done! And, the inexpensive & free parts make it all just that much better.
A very easy way to improve the fence security is to find yourself a good thorny berry bush you can grow and clone. Plant the clones of the bush along the fence and in a few years it will take someone very determined or very drunk to even want to touch that fence as you will have a 10 to 12 foot wall of thorns on the 6 to 8 foot fence.
I got some of those seedy northern Oranges growing on the outside of my fence but my favorite is the thorny Locus that I trimmed waist high and now I'm trimming head high! Wouldn't dare go near it without a pole saw and armor!
My old house had bougainvillea bushes weaved through one side of the fence. Started out just weaving the branches randomly at times but then i realized i could have a beautiful "living" fence with 2 or 3 in thorns!! So i bought more and planted down one side of my fence
I dont comment all the time. But I always give a thumbs up. Don't stop doing what you are doing . I am watching and so are many others. Please keep the videos coming.
Look into infrared beams. They can reach a long distance, and if you don't have animals walking along your fence, they can be great for warning of intruders.
So you don't want to accidentally hurt a tall guy on the other side of the fence, maybe you should change your handle to "Ethical Prepper", I think there's someone else with that one. Good job sticking to high morals, be well.
if you're handy, electrically speaking, you can add piezo sensors to the fence along it's length to sense vibration and set off an alarm should something try to climb it. i was working on this when winter stopped me from finishing.
SP1, talk to some small companies that install those wooden privacy fences. Lots of times they come out and replace chain link fence with privacy fence and they usually charge the homeowner to dispose of the old fence of they leave it there for the homeowner to dispose of. I'm sure you can pick up some good fencing really cheap that way. Buy or just come pick up the fence that the wooden fence company has removed. Also if there are neighborhoods near you that seem to be getting upscale, neighborhood associations form in those places and many times will say you cant have chain link and those folks have to replace their back yard fence. Ride through there and see who has a chain link fence and notice when the wooden one starts to go up. Knock on the door and ask them about the old chain link.
A traditional hedgerow would be a great thing in a space like that. It's not a productive part of your property at present (from the part I can see, no criticism). Hawthorne mixed with hedge plants, Holly, blackberry, rosehip, viburnum, elderberry. Mint closer to the house in the hedge. Mix the barbed wire in the hedgerow if not something a little more modern. Productive, medicinal, encourages the critters (hunting, trapping). A deterrent, especially in the dark.
I've always used tent stakes for the bottom of the fence. They're pretty cheap and if the ground isn't too soft it'll hold pretty well. Granted I use them so my dogs don't dig under and get out.
Great video as always! If you don’t mind me asking, about how much land you you have, or about how much would you plan on securing during SHTF? Trying to get a handle on what is doable.
Being born n bred from good farm stock, I'd suggest not to fence yourself off of your own farm. Also...it is better to own both sides, and thus access' n points. Wisdom is given from above... Ask a successful farmer😁
I like it think I might do the same thing around my corner of the world but I might do the Y at the top of the fence you know the Y barbed wire LOL I can't remember what it's actually called also I don't want you to have to divulge too much but I hope you have a plan for people either using wire cutters or torch cutters if not I can tell you how to build a proximity sensor which will activate an electrical system for your fence you can set it to actually to detect humans you can do the sensor and one two different ways thermal is the best in my opinion
*Hi David, It absolutely must be the "CONSTITUTION PARTY !" Why ? Because, it reinforces the FACT that they ALL swear and MUST OBEY their oath to the Constitution and Bill of Rights. It IS NOT "Team D" or "Team R", it is TEAM CONSTITUTION !, which is THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ! ...simple.* ( Please comment “!” on this comment folks, I’m testing if I’m being throttled by YT.)
You asked for comments, so I'll give you an honest one. Your content is fine, but the bold face (don't even know how you do that) and all the upper case and exclamation marks make your post in a word, rude. That's 'shouting' and it implies that what you have to say is more important than what the others posting have to say. You wouldn't walk into a room and start yelling, if you did people would think you were a nut and avoid you. The same thing applies on the internet. Be respectful, don't demand attention, speak at the same volume as everyone else in the room. Good luck and enjoy your day!
@@joeprimal2044 🤔. America is on the brink of actual civil war, city’s are burning, the DemonicRats unchained and now control the executive branch, and the legislative branch, soon to pack the SCOTUS , Patriots are being labeled as terrorists and insurrectionists, Constitutional Americans are being silenced, and losing their businesses, our rights are hanging by a thread... .....and your worried about “capital letters” and “SHOUTING ETIQUETTE” ? If you don’t like it , get over it, it’s still AMERICA JACK.
@@MrTrekFanDan I'm just trying to help you not look like a nut to people so that you can get your message out more effectively. Nobody listens to people who write messages the way you have been writing. You are wondering if YT is throttling you. They aren't, people are ignoring you because of how you write.
@@joeprimal2044 I did it deliberately 🙄 I usually DO type “normal”... and only *bold* certain words to draw attention to a particular topic, or key word. And I even go out of my way to break things up in paragraphs so it doesn’t become a word wall. Thanks for you input. Hope I didn’t offend your sensibilities and my replies to your replies.
@@MrTrekFanDan Not at all offended. We all have to work together to win, and sometimes that means saying "hey man, your fly's open." LOL. Mors tyrannis.
Not only does your fence deter trespassers, but if you end up chasing an intruder, you have them contained in that direction when they may not know about this fence. Just my thought.
I've been watching and looking for your videos for years now. I don't know you, but I look to you like a friend. Your right, a lot of channels are quite now. Yes there's too many trolls, but your messages are still getting to your audience and I enjoy seeing what your doing. It helps me figure out what I should be doing. Ignore a troll, the response is all they want. Let our frustrations temper us, sharpen us and get our work done. God bless you and your work on here, because there are still people that need to hear it.
Just an observation. If it’s for boundary it can be anything. If it’s for security, wouldn’t you want criticism so you can improve on it. Just seems poorly thought out.
Nice fence! I thought it odd that my little fenced sub-division put the barbed wire hangers inward too. Like yours, being right on the property line probably explains it.
I noticed that as well, from human trafficking training I've had, that that's a design to keep someone IN. However, as a landowner who's had boundary disputes RECENTLY, and HEATED disputes at that, I immediately knew why you did it this way, as you wouldn't want to encroach on someone else's property and end up in a legal battle. '
Any Fence is better than no fence!! But... You should look into making a Fence alarm system. Just Like a Electric fence.. But no power , but wires that if are cut you will know it.
When I was a child, my family raised AKC Dobermans. My dad put up a chainlink fence with those inward facing brackets and ran 3 strands of barbed wire down those brackets to keep those very athletic dogs inside. We lived in Decatur, a suburb of Atlanta, but he was an old farmer used to working with cattle and he didn't much care about aesthetics like most folks in the burbs, LOL.
It'll work for honest people, and maybe to keep in some critters. You could also plant some Osage orange trees (Maclura pomifera). Those are woven together and will keep things in and out. The spikes on young trees get pretty long, and they HURT. You could also grow those to coppice for firewood. It's way up there with almond and eucalyptus for BTU.
Sgt. Dave ...you have more brothers out here then you think.. dont let the haters discourage you..keep up the good work...brothers in arms...JIM FROM OHIO
My friend, I Appreciate your videos. I admire your Wisdom, however, I can’t come to grip with why you needed to answer that other guys question. Your fence looks good to me. I live in The Bronx, THAT’s in NYC. THE FAMOUS ZOO here, doesn’t even have this kind of security! Please, don’t waste your hard earned money on BARBED Wire, unless your surroundings are worst then mine. I will add, that a friend had kept geese on his property, they’re the best for sounding the alarm with trespassers.
Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee all considering constitutional carry. If you live there, write your state lawmakers to voice your strong support, and spread the word so others can do the same. End the de facto gunowner lists, and fees/taxes to enable your God given rights!
The horizontal pipe up top could be "plumbing" with spray nozzles drilled and tapped into it. That way in case of a small brush fire, water could be sprayed along the fence line from one central location. Also, using the imagination, if ammonia or bleach is kept around the house..... it would have to be pressurized, but stray pets and little green men hate ammonia.
It would be good to note, Dave doesn't make the kinda money off of RU-vid to afford to heavily fence his property all the way around. Very ambitious, and thrifty to use what he could afford. Only thing left is to clear a line of sight a bit wider from fence, good fire break as a bonus!
A former SF guy most of us are familiar with recently chimed in on the barbed wire thing. He said if the barbed wire is facing out, it can more easily be pulled down. So, it doesn’t necessarily make much of a difference. People sure have a lot of strong opinions ions about barbed wire!
Looks good. I don't have to worry about the grandchildren lol now it's the great grandchildren I would suggest to check with your local scrap recycling yards for all your fencing needs seems they always have both old and nearly new posts and partial rolls of all types of wire. Save money and a secure fence and gates at a reasonable price is the name of the game. Thanks for a great and informative video . Have a great day and keep looking for that better tomorrow
