Small business owners have a lot on their plate, the days and weeks fly by so fast it is hard to keep up with the constantly rising prices.
But YOU should!
Many tradesman are stuck in a rut charging the same old prices they were charging years ago, seemingly unaware that the rest of the country has been raising the cost of living.
Their REAL INCOME is falling year by year, they moan that everything is getting more expensive yet fail to raise their own prices.
This video shows just how low the wages of the average handyman is getting and if things do not change soon it will not be too long before they are earning less than the National Living Wage!
But this is just my take on the situation please let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Up here in the north there’s no way a handyman could make £300 a day I wish it was possible. I tried I didn’t last no more then 4 months I’m back working for a local authority now doing social houses. I can’t give up the 32 days holiday, 6 months sick pay great pension fully stocked van etc etc the benefits are endless I don’t make a massive amount but my salary is 38k. I still do jobs for friend etc to top it up. I still wish I was my own boss I just can’t justify the hassle for such little reward for what i already have.

Crazy isn't it... In a few more years unskilled Labourers on minimum wage will be on the same wage as a skilled and experienced tradesman. They say that in the UK we have a huge shortage of tradesman, supply and demand! Yet I know many customers only want to pay peanuts 😬

Supply and demand... south west I charge £260 a day as a sparky. You could get £300 a day doing multiple small jobs but it never works out that way... These videos of people that are charging more but getting likely annoyed that customers are rejecting them because of price then come online telling everyone to increase their prices... £320 a day for 48 weeks of the year is over £76k a year, I know as trades we have overheads but that is up there with a GP.. If you can charge that rate and still get the work then good on you but most people we rely on our good name and reasonably priced, people are struggling these days and that reflects what they can pay a trades person, unfortunately with materials going up so fast a lot of trades people wages are taking a hit..

Also doesn't help that the commercial sector is flooded with Improvers and very few qualified and experienced tradesman like Sparks. Most of the Improvers haven't even done lvl 3... but that's what supervisors want as they pay them £150ish a day while charging the contractor a lot more, usually for a full sparks. London is terrible for it. I'm actually planning to move from London to Wales, the money will be less but not much difference and the overheads and bills will be far less and then there is the quality of life... no comparison.
