From my experiences as a teacher in and outside of the schooling institution, Homeschooled children categorically are not only happier but they do tend to be holistically smarter

It's good when you know exactly what information is going into your childrens' heads. Most children are basically raised by the mainstream schooling system, not their parents. Our children should be learning from us more than anyone else.

Thank you for this video, I’m a 18 year old self directed learner, I would be in my final year of sixth form but I left. As a result I have become more holistically educated in; Business, Black history, Finnance, credit (and started building that) and Networking with industry professionals by actively doing it and putting myself in such situations. I thinks it’s amazing thing you are doing with your children honestly so inspiring💓 I thought it would be insightful if you children watched BBC lost kingdoms of Africa (it’s available on RU-vid) and worth a good watch

Thank you so much for making this video. It is very educational. I have a 2 year old and as black woman of African origin, I have been thinking of how to educate him when he turns 4. Can I ask you a question? Do you ever take your children to Africa for holidays? Places like Rwanda, Seychelles, Ghana are fantastic. I ask because Africa has been portrayed so horrifically in western media and given that we are all from Africa, I think it's worth us all going back and discovering that some of these African countries are even more developed than western countries. I take my son to at least 2 African countries a year for holidays - we have a fantastic experience, our money is appreciated and we are contributing to their economy, and we are not stared, made to feel uncomfortable or thrown the shade of racism when we spend my hard earned money. Thanks and keep up the good work.

You had me encouraged until “I don’t really have any challenges with homeschooling my children”. 🙈🙈 One more reason I don’t feel equipped to do this. 😓 Year one with a four and six year old (who didn’t want to have to do school at all) was not easy and honestly utterly exhausting to never have a moment to myself. Great video and rationales.... I just wish you had an honest challenge or two to share, such as being responsible for every activity/lesson/socializing opportunity your child could need, and getting them enrolled in such things, since there are no “school extracurriculars” or electives.

The uk, unbelievably so, has terrible public education. The way the school system works here is extremely primitive. Those who can afford private education are naturally ahead of those who don’t have such privilege. The public school system is so poor, so systematically oppressive, slow passed, completely and utterly low in every sense... in other European countries, public schools are just as good as private schools in terms of the curriculum and standards. It’s like there’s a system in the uk especially England, to keep the poor uneducated and the rich far ahead.

Good morning & thank you for your video .My husband and I are very concerned about today’s schools and the negative things about schools . I have been homeschooling our daughter since birth (lol) She is a very intelligent child & is a blessing . The first question I’m always asked is”what about her social skills “? UGH why don’t people keep their unintelligent comments to them selves ? Anyway I love your videos and I would love to teach my daughter more about African American culture & History & you are correct about the lack of it in regular schools. It’s very expensive & we still have to pay school taxes (which is ridicules) Why ? I look forward to watching more of your videos and Learning more with my daughter .

Hello! Fellow homeschooling mom of 4 girls. Thanks for sharing your experiences. How old are your children? What I love most about homeschooling, is being the first to experience my kids first time, rather it being the first time they read a word, or the first time they learned a math fact. I love being the first person my children learn from. I enjoy the freedom of mixing things up whenever we feel like it.

Great video! You’re ahead of the game Jamelia, as now most parents may have to consider this, with so many CoVId outbreaks and so many months off school, 6 months, this even may even be mandatory in some cases. Some Schools have already had new covid19 outbreaks with some schools closed. This may be the new normal for the masses now.

This was really insightful and inspirational Jamelia, thank you for posting. I’ve got a few questions (please answer xx) 1. Did you have any any anxieties around homeschooling your children? Like, whether you know enough stuff or perhaps you might have to learn things yourself first? 2. How important is it for you to prepare your daughters for the traditional working world? Starting school at 11 sounds great but how will that prepare them for having to be up early in later life? 3. Do parents get benefits for homeschooling? Just thinking how it would work for the average parent... 4. Do you have similar views when it comes to further and higher education (college and uni)? I’d be reaaaaaally pleased if you responded with your thoughts as I’m a mum to be and I need all the advice I can get! Xxxx

I'm so happy to see this. You are absolutely amazing and you definitely deserve more credit than your given. I'm really considering homeschooling my children again as I did this until my oldest was 7. The reason I decided to send them to school was because there was no support and they had no social life. They have recently moved to a new school due to us moving house and they really hate it. They have suffered racial abuse, been told to go back to africa, my daughter has had her hair cut and has been assaulted. She is only 8. My son is 11 and he keeps getting bullied and called names everyday. I'm just afraid of finances as I wouldn't be able to do my job from home and I'm a single parent. Any advice?

Thank you for sharing your experience home schooling. I understand that here in the US, children who are home schooled perform better on standardized tests and at university. Given the level of quality education that homeschooled children receive for the the people who care about them best, it is no surprise as to their level of academic achievement, especially when they are protected from relational aggression from classmates, faculty and administrators, an d systemic racism covertly reflected in history books. Of course, this is not to suggest that that is true for all stakeholders in education, however, one bad apple could have a long term negative impact on a child. Kudos to you!

We’re a black homeschooling family. Our children have never attended a school. We love learning and hope to be raising lifelong learners. We have family meetings to discuss challenges, learning objectives and celebrate successes. The children have their extra curriculum activities and friendship groups. Home Schooling has been an all round enriching experience and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Ps we also get to present history and the sciences from an Afrocentric perspective. Win win.

How do I explain I don’t want my child to be involved in this? I'm not a big believer in exams, although this isn't a dictatorship, so when my eldest wanted to get hers, she went and got them, and passed with flying colours. You can pass exams at any age, my mum got her GCSE's AT 45, when she wanted to go into a particular career. If Tiani wants to get any formal qualifications, I'll happily facilitate that when the time comes xx

@@OfficialJamelia Loved this video. As a qualified primary school teacher I completely support and understand why you would choose to homeschool your children. I was wandering about GCSE's as well and was going to ask this question, I completely forgot that when I wanted to train to be a teacher I taught myself maths and passed the GCSE exam (same for GCSE science). Something I couldn't do in traditional schooling. I really love your whole philosophy on letting your children wake up when they are ready to learn, when a child comes into my classroom and I know they are tired and have't had breakfast they're not going to be as productive. I'm going to have a serious conversation with my partner about possibly homeschooling our children when we have them. Of course not everyone who wishes to do this is afforded the ability due to needing to be in full time work, but it's definitely something to consider and not something widely spoken about, especially in the black community. Great video as always Jamelia and what a fantastic job you're doing as a mother! So inspirational!

(Typing from my phone in a hurry, spelling errors & oopes below-dnt judge me) ..lol Is It a bad thing that I wld like my 13yr old son to be homeschooled but I dnt want to do it? I want him to be apart of a HS ing group, community & not go to traditional schools anymore. Hes been on a IEP since he was in the3rd grade & Ive always didnt like or understand why he has to be on a IEP. His reading, math & science scores arent any better..pretty much the same if at all verryy small changes. I asked him if he wanted to try HS & he was up in the air about it bc mainly socializing. He would mostly miss his friends. Is it too late since he will be 14 nxt yr? Or should I still peruse it!??..The reason why I dont want to actually be the HS teacher for him is mainly bc I work & also bc I was a terrible student in school. I struggled bc I figured that I learn differently & the schools I went to didnt have the time or patience to help me like that..back in mid 2000s. But I hate how the school systems are ran these days. Kids DNT get to go outside and or take a much needed break in or from class..sitting still all day. My son loves science & history but i feel like traditional schooling has lost the FUN in learning & teaching education. We live in a state to where all of the teachers are white young inexperienced females who dont really like let alone love kids or teaching & they pass the blk/brwn kids off to be on a IEP. Among being forced to vaxx your child & force children to learn about inappropriate sexual behaviors & choices, lifestyles at a very young age...i could go onnn...any tips!? P.s Im not entirely opposed to being his HS teacher..i just feel like i have to have experience & at leasr be able to help him in his subjects..which i ONLY enjoyed Reading/Writing. The others I completely failed in. I just want him to have a different opportunities than I had growing up. Its just him that I have..so it seems visible??

You can do it. There are many resources available to you. Pay attention to your child, watch how he learns. Get the confidence you need through resources that build you up and supply you with the tools you need. Yes, you can!

I'm making the decision to withdraw from the school system, and I was just wondering, will your daughters still sit GCSE exams or have you decided against it? Many thanks

Hey Hun, I am planning of homeschooling due to systematic racism my twins are currently going through, I have reached a point where I don’t see any other options. My son has been called the N-word and was also physically attacked...I know it’s the best thing for my children, my son is nervous about this new chapter as he is worried about losing his school friends. Are there any melanated support group where homeschooling family meet up so that kids can socialise?

I am thinking about homeschooling my child for same reason, we live in a predominantly white area and I dread the idea that my children could get bullied. I grew up in a very racist country and received unfair and negligent treatments in schools. Now we’re in the UK but I really do not want them to go through same, it messed up with my self esteem.

And the school lost my son 3 times when he was between the ages of 4 and 5 so that as well made me think homeschooling is for me ... and I had to also replace his stuff like every month they would go missing at school ... and the icing on the cake when a little girl ( she don’t know what she saying because she was only 5 years old so not blaming the baby at all because she still say my son is her best friend ) but she told him at 5 years old that having black skin is dirty and smelly I never had to deal with racism so young and I don’t want that for him

Hi, Thanks for the video. I am thinking of homeschooling my daughter for multiple reasons. Since lockdown she has thrived! Her teacher has also said this. My daughter is really quiet at school so I think she gets over looked alot of the time and she values 1-2-1 interaction she gets at home. The curriculum does not cater for many black/brown children. I am concerned though because I'm a single parent and live away from family so the financial aspect scares me, how would I work? How do you stay motivated?

I finally did it! My daughter is now home educated and she is doing really well. I've been doing it for a year now and she is thriving. I'm super proud of her (and myself 😅).Take the leap, it will be worth it 😊

Angela Hay I guess you would have to get a tutor and nanny to watch your kids and coordinate their activities if you work full time.

There are homeschooling groups around UK, usually in more built up areas. Most are run like a forest school. Otherwise a home tutor can work.

How does it work when it comes to exams?

Good Question!

Do you worry if they don't reach milestones inline with their age?
@OfficialJamelia
@OfficialJamelia 5 лет назад
Never, they are doing and achieving exactly what they should be. I treat each child as an individual, and their goals, milestones are as unique as they are. As lonng as they are challenged, improving and heading in the right direction, i am hppay - and more importantly, so are they xx
