I own an Indian Chief Darkhorse and I love it. I tell people to try several bikes and buy what you like and can afford. The most important thing is to just ride!

I've been riding for 51 years now, and when the current version of Indian finally hit the market I rode my softail deluxe to the local Indian dealer to test ride one as I was in the market for a new big cruiser. The Indian rode fine and seemed to be built well enough, but there was something I just didn't like about it, when I got on my old Harley to ride home I realized that it was the ergonomics of the Indian that I didn't like. So, about 2 weeks later, I rode the deluxe 35 miles up the freeway to the Harley dealer (the temp was 22 F that morning) and traded it in on a Road King. If I have ever loved a motorcycle, I love my Road King. I agree, I don't care who likes what bike, or even if I am the only person on the planet that likes a certain bike, when I am buying a bike, my opinion is the only opinion that matters, I lost a "friend" because of that once. Oh well, I was buying a bike for me, not him.

Jerry, you're the best! I swore an oath, put on a uniform and went into harms way (submarine veteran 83-88). I'm 5'5" with a 29 inch inseam... I ride a Suzuki Boulevard (C50T), so I ride what fits my submarine veteran size lol and what I'm comfortable on. BESIDES, there have been several flag waving Harley riders who have commented on my bike who have NEVER SERVED, NEVER TAKEN AN OATH, NEVER PUT ON A UNIFORM NOR PUT THEIR ASS ON THE LINE.... so those who like that who make negative comments, well.... the same people who don't like the free paperbags at Publix!! God bless you and keep doing what you are doing! 🇺🇸 ❤ 🚔

Haha, Jerry, I can tell you're in Florida. I couldn't help but laugh at "I think they (polaris) even make snowmobiles". That's the first thing they made and the biggest part of their business, by far. I do understand that someone from the south wouldn't know that, it's just funny to me.

The Harley assembly plant in York, PA. was an AMF Ski Doo (snow mobile) plant when Harley began operations there. It was also a Naval Ordnace plant before that making bombs and munitions during the Vietnam war. My mom was a "Rosie The Riveter" there during WW II.

At age 58 I bought a 2015 Streetglide. It was the first bike I had ridden in almost 35 years. I thought it was going to be just like riding a bike. Man was I glad I had it delivered. It was anything but riding a bike. I would have killed myself. Thanks to your videos I was able to find out what I was doing wrong with the clutch and back break. Yesterday my neighbor had his first bike delivered. It was a Harley. He just finished his motorcycle school and got his license. I strongly suggested he get your Ride Like a Pro videos before he got out on the road. I hope he takes my advice. Your videos have so much valuable info. Thanks for saving my ass.

Jerry you seem like a very level headed gentleman. I am 60 years old and bought a new Fatboy in 2018 with the 114. I had not rode for 35 years when I bought the H-D never had a Harley. Rode it for 18 months and put 18k on it. I live in Indiana so I rode a bunch. I sold it after I needed to buy a car since I didn’t owe anything on it I bought a new Cadillac but still wanted to ride so I bought a used 2012 Victory Kingpin with 12k on it. So I will ride this until I buy a new Harley. Hope to come down and take a course with you.

Well done - very nicely edited video w/supporting inserts, Jerry. This was a pleasure to view. I remember recently reading about a person touring on a motorcycle by another manufacturer who had to turn around and back track many hundreds of miles because of a need for a service interval. Maybe that person didn't plan the event with a great deal of thought but, I'm thinking a Harley dealership will never be too far away and, it's my understanding that if you're on a road tour, especially in an emergency, you'll get considerable support. Additionally, regarding Harleys, thank you for sharing your experience on their superior handling. For those choosing to ride a heavy motorcycle, they give up some of the freedom of movement that makes cycling such a wonderful experience. It's nice to know which manufacturer gives back the most for the size/weight disadvantage. Thank you for sharing the wind screen manufacture, your experience and for pointing out to others that they don't have to take the bars set for life the way they come from the dealership. Regarding the shorter screen, that makes so much sense in adjusting the motorcycle to daily riding. A taller screen makes sense on a tour. We give up something when we place a fairing in front of us. Road Kings with quickly removable shields are very popular for both the view and the cooling. But for those who plan to do some long rides, maybe like you they will want a faired bike and you show them how to make a useful adjustment. I wanted to take a moment to say how sharp and clear your video image comes across on my stream. I know you have more than just one video recorder, one of which you mentioned was considerably less expensive. If that was used in this presentation, it's a champ. Jerry, I watch your videos even though I ride much different, lighter motorcycles. I have a Husky 701 SM and a Yamaha MT-10. I'm 72 years old and always considering what bike is next. Like least Issac Stearn with the violin, I know that learning is a lifelong, rewarding experience that will never end. P.S. . . . :) Did you say you had your mask on? Did you see that guy in the mirror recording???
@motorman857

The forward view you see on my video's is from the GoPro Hero 7. I use that camera because you can add a mic adapter to it. There are many other camera's that offer just as good picture quality for half the price and are much more reliable but have no way to add a mic set up. The SJCAM is one of those.

ut1004bp I’m extremely happy with my Chieftain the primary factors for me were the technology and being an American company. A friend of mine was a died in wool the Harley-Davidson rider. In May I was shocked to see him trade in his Roadglide for a Chieftain. Every time we ride now he talks about how much better the Chieftain is over the Harley especially the ride. About the low center of gravity, I’ve laid mine over twice in the last year. Something I’d never done before. I suppose it’s probably age (64) but I never came close on the Roadstar.

I first rode a Indian which was very nice nothing really negative to say here. I did have a bit of an issue with the sales staff and their lack of attention to my needs. But after riding a HD Ultra Limited I was sold. Hard to put my finger on any one thing it was more of the whole package. Great sales staff along providing all details of what the Ultra offered. Agree completely with the main points of this video. Was looking for a Road Glide or Challenger, found both quite pricey. Still, leaned challenger for my application and was ready to buy. As it turns out, our local Indian dealer is also the Harley dealer, store is located between nudie bars and bottom tier used car lots. That's fine for me, but they acted like I was trying to buy the only Glide on the floor in '97, so I continued my search. Now own an NOS '19 BMW R1200RT, more or less the police bike for the rest of the world, for almost 10k less than Harley or Indian at similar spec. Twenty years ago I thought riding the cool bike was important, now I can't imagine caring.

I’ve been riding for close to 50 yrs. I never had a Harley and after 33,000 miles on my Yamaha FJ09 I decided to sell it because quite frankly it was crazy fast and I was getting over confident with it. It was a great bike. Time to move on. So I bought a 2018 street glide special. Put allot of stuff on it. Love the bike! Why did I get a Harley? Well besides never owning one I felt it was time. I wanted a touring bike. So…. If I’m going to go on a long trip what was most important to me was a huge dealer network and Harley is it. I’ve test rode Indians and they’re OK but sparse dealer network doesn’t make me feel confident when traveling long distances. I now have almost 45,000 miles on my Harley and it’s just great! I also have two other bikes my Old 1976 Yamaha 650 which I bought new at 17 yrs. old and a Russian Ural with a sidecar. Talk about driving a tractor that can go 60 mph! That’s fun! All in all I’m blessed to have my stable. It’s all good….

Joe- 4 years ago I sold my dream retirement bike, my beautiful fully loaded 2015 HD Street Glide, and ended up losing over 15K for what I paid for it and what I paid to have put in it. I didn't feel I could handle it safely so I stopped riding it and got nagged by the family to sell it because of that. The thought of taking lessons never occurred to me. So now, thanks to you, I am thinking about getting back into it. Like you said, to me there is no more beautiful of a bike than the Chief Vintage in that red and cream color, which they now have stopped making. I found one but I see that after market parts are limited. So thanks for this and your other videos. What I like about you is you don't preach and you don't praise yourself. Thank You.

Another great U-tube clip .You truly have a gift. Keep up the astute observations & life philosophy guidelines as well as humorous antidotes coming. Can I look forward to a Motorman HBO “One Night Stand” Comedy Special in the near future ? 😆

I have to choose Harley because the character of a Harley can’t be found nowhere else. Sure they leak and give trouble sometimes and some people say that HD should stand for hundred dollars because you can’t do anything except wash it for less than 100$. I love my 1985 HD FXRS. The best handling bike I’ve ever ridden.

I like Indian just fine but I stayed with Harley for a few reasons. Dealerships bein the biggest one. I do regular 7,000-10,000 mile rides. Harley dealers are great for getting you back on the road if you have a problem.

i like the indian chieftain better but the harley network is so much more robust. i ride a bike that not a lot of people work on and i don't have the skill to take apart an engine and replace a push rod or adjust a valve. I would go with Harley for that reason or a japanese bike with a robust dealer network

Bruce: very true. I just got back to Florida from a big western trip. I had what turned out to be a minor problem. Las Cruces HD got me back on the road in 15 mins.

@@MCAdventurerHD131 I have had several times over the years that they were able to get us in and back on the road. Last year my buddy spun a rear bearing. It was Saturday and the dealer didn't have one in stock. They asked if he minded them taking one off a bike the same as his with only about 3,000 miles on it. 2 hours later we were back on the road. Super happy with how good they are to people on the road.

Irrespective of what people might think about Harleys, you can’t go wrong by buying one. There are dealers everywhere, parts even for ancient ones are available, they hold their value, the is a huge availability or third party parts and accessories.

Ha! I started riding on a bultaco given to me then a Suzuki gs1000L in the early 80's. Took about a 20 year hiatus. Bought a vstar1100 classic great bike. Then bought my first Harley and it's not the fastest but nothing like it going down the big road. Next bike wi be a Harley too.

As always, great video Jerry. 100% of all paper bags from Publix know they are just as effective as the masks! Up here in Missouri we practice social distancing by riding our Harleys whenever we go outside. You mentioned it was 95 yesterday. It was 97 here with a 117 heat index!

Love your videos. My problem with Indian is they do not have the dealer network Harley does. I do some cross country riding and it's reassuring to know you have support from a vast network of dealerships.

Oh? My gosh, the Terminator shot was just killer. If Donna's anything like that, you still have a chance to run, Jerry: "Honey, I'm just going to the store...be right back," and disappear to Timbuktu. I think I might even run to there. Donna, have mercy on us!

😆😆 Jerry keep up the non-pc commentary! It really is refreshing in comparison to all the other pathetic pc talk coming out of the US currently. Always enjoy your chats & continue to learn from you. I am grateful. Riding is kinda like flying - you never really know it all & a mistake could be unpleasant. Keep it up & keep me smiling! 👍🏼South Africa
