Why I chose the Sony A7iv over the A7Siii 

I chose the a7iv for same reasons, more versatile as a stills camera and I don’t do much slow mo if any at all. Plus breathing comp, photo/video dial.

Sony a7iv is great for a pro photography camera not reliable as a pro video camera because of overheating. I had two Sony a7iv cameras. I sold one a7iv for the Sony a7siii and I do not regret it one bit. I do weddings and commercial work regardless of fps bit rate the Sony a7iv will over heat in 4k in any setting on average after 18+ minutes of continuous shooting in 75 degree + weather. That's with the sony a7iv update, high temp on, all doors open including battery door and screen flipped open. Great camera for a casual video user who films short clips not continuous in 4k.

I will keep my s3 because I shoot video and have advantages over the 4iv like hdmi output. I can do 12, 14, 16 bit raw video with external recording, better in low light, no rolling shutter problem, 4k 120fps, 1080p 240fps, the only way I will suggest th IV over the s3 is if you will be doing photo professionally. For social media 12mp of s3 still fine.

I came to similar decision and I now shoot with the A7R3 and A74, A7R3 for portrait and landscape usually mated with a 20mm 1.8 or 85 Gmaster and is great for video as a second camera, A74 for video and fast action stills on a 24-70 or 200-600 and main video camera usually with my 20mm 1.8 or another lens. I avoided the A7R4 as the huge file still size was not a selling point and Sony did not implement a Small/medium/large RAW size like Nikon did on their D850 3 years ago. The 74 increased grip size, improved button ergonomics and input doors with better menu system rounded out my purchase decision. Easily the best 35mm mirrorless digital camera for $2500 on earth bar none. I can see professionally using this for 8-10 years as I really don’t see anything else I could want improved. As for upgrading my R3 if the R5 in the future has the same body, flippy screen and hopefully selectable RAW sizes that would be great. My R3 is another camera I can have professionally for the long haul another 6-7 years for sure if not more.

Hi there. As you have both A7IV and A7SIII could you tell the difference in color science? I watched a lot of YT videos and it's clear that A7SIII has much better colors than A7IV, let's say more filmic (more vibrant colors in A7SIII and green is bluish or smth in A7IV) - Sony A7SIII colors are more pleasant straight out of the camera. So I'm curious if it's too hard or even possible to get that pleasant colors as A7SIII has in A7IV?

Good comparison. It’s the 4K, 60fps, in full frame that’s the deal breaker for me. For real estate and Weddings that crop in makes a 14mm not wide enough. If I had to get a second camera it would be the a74 though.
