The single strand knots is why I switched over. I invested and a nice blow dryer and high end straightener and couldn’t be any happier! I’ve save so much money no longer a product junkie I pay $15-20 for a trim when I need it. Life is easier too!
Girrlll. Say it isn't so. Which straightener did you get? I can use a new one. It was all of the costly Hair Products and the crazy Do's and Don'ts that did me in. My hair broke off badly even cutting the ends. When i switched back to being a straight natural my hair said "Thank You girl you knew better" 🤣 🤣. My hair was heat trained for 10 years no damage. Then i went natural and damn near went bald headed at the same time 😢 😢. My hair was about bra length. After my hair tragedy it's at my neck now. I bought so many hair products i could've had a garage sale and a Black Friday sale 🤣 🤣. In January 2022 i switched back and started my 1 year hair growth journey and my hair is back thriving again and my hair like me again 🤣 🤣. STAY SAFE EVERYONE. GOD BLESS.
I am sick to death of wigs and destroying my natural kinky 4c hair. Im always tearing it apart trying to manage detangling. Straight natural seems like the next best thing. Thank you.
I've been a straight natural my whole life. Yet we've all been sucked into the phase of believing straightening your hair is bad. No, it's better and easier to manage and I love it here. 😂
@@altheadawn2531 how did you come to that conclusion? Because from what I’m hearing her hair is doing quite well otherwise she wouldn’t have much left.
@@uyiomere1114 yes it used to be before I knew about heat protects BUT my hair is very strong even during that time it was still in the middle of my back find what works for your hair because what I do might not work for you. I can bleach my hair and it will still be long. But that's my hair. Being a blow dry natural I feel is better so most then silk pressing often. If I only do one or two passes and wash weekly I won't get heat damage but that's my hair. I also mostly use salon products.
Girl I am all for a good blow out, silk press. I do that for 2 weeks a month and then I do minitwists for 1 week and take it out and wear it in the twist out it creates for a week. My life is changed forever, no more wet hair, extreme shrinkage and excessive products build up….
I watch of video by Ms Rachel Adina who did a wash and go. Instead of letting her hair shrink up while air drying, she blew dried her hair. The result was amazing. I personally prefer that look as opposed to air drying and banding to elongate the hair. Most naturals go for one method of doing their wash and Go's. But the reason why people get knots and tangles in the first place is due to letting the hair shrink up during their wash and go air drying time. If you're going to use heat in your hair anyway why not just blow dry your wash and go. It keeps your curls elongated giving you the length you want and you have less tangles and knots. You'll still need to use a heat protectant though.
I’m a blow dried natural. Those single strand knots use to be crazy so now I keep my hair in a blow dried state and so blow dried styles, it’s been the best thing for my hair !
I'm a straight hair natural and I don't care who knows.😊 The pulling and tugging was ridiculous. Too much breakage. When its straight or blown out, it thrives.
I’m officially becoming a straight natural. I no longer have the time or energy to keep doing braidouts every night or ending up with a bun for weeks and I’m over wigs and braids rn.. thank you for educating us through your channel ❤
Here I am watching this video again because I’m OVER IT! It’s been 6yrs since being natural and wash n go’s ain’t it for long hair. The fact that I can get up, have a cute style, and save sooooo much time and energy with straight hair. Today, I’m officially on the straight hair natural train!! 🙌🏽💃🏽
You just literally told my story! I am a straight haired natural for all of the reasons that you mentioned in this video! My hair in its curly state just doesn’t work for me! Thank you queen!!!
Watching this while mentally preparing to straighten my hair later today. I love my wash and gos, but I'm sooo bored. I've felt that guilt your talking about, and I'm over it. I just wanna play in my hair and let it do whatever it is gonna do. Whether it gets heat damage or not, I'm gonna style accordingly and its gonna be cute when I'm done 😌
It’s something in the air! All of us are starting to feel like this. I love my naturally curly hair but it’s too much maintenance. I just prefer to put my hair away. Over manipulation causes my hair to break.
Exactly how I’m feeling these days. Straight hair is just easier to manage and I don’t feel guilty saying that. I also don’t feel like it’s self hate to say I like my hair in a straight style - it’s still my hair lol.
Yessss! Finally someone speaking my truth! Thank you for that. It needed to be said. I stopped the nonsense 6 months ago and my hair is thriving when straightened. I believe in treating my body well from the inside out. So I use organic products for washing, conditioning, moisturizing and sealing. I absolutely love the freedom of being a straight hair natural❤
Glad you are covering this. I am considering being a straight natural after 18 years curly and loc’ed. The only reason I’m actually considering it is because my gray curls are just disrespectful limp bizkits!😒 They don’t curl they just lay there like I owe them money.
I love it. I’m going to be a straight natural/braid the whole fall and winter. I can wear my natural and braids in the summer and spring, if I so choose. It’s great to be so versatile. My hair can do anything and I can do anything I like to my hair.
After all the tangles and fairy knots I’ve become a straight natural. They need to stop with the criticism. No chemicals means no chemicals, hence the state of naturalness is present. By the way, I don’t care if I get heat damage either.
My goal was to be a straight natural four years ago. I final started straightening it on a regular since August and I am happy. I actually have less shed hairs and my hair feels moisturized and softer.
You and your hair is absolutely gorgeous no matter what you choose to do with it! 💛 I feel like people need to divest themselves from your natural hair journey as everyone is entitled to do what they wish with their hair. Keep on shining beautiful!! P.S. I love your transparency and honesty with how you felt during your natural hair journey. It's not easy and yet here you are. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏾
My natural 4c was dry, knotted and it fell out a lot, I started straightening my hair in Aug 2023 and I’m loving it. I can finger comb my hair and not a string would fall off. However with that said, how you maintain the hair overnight is extremely important. Wrapping it and knowing how your hair must be wrapped is extremely important ❤❤Loved this video cause I can relate. Thank you girl 😘
Thank you so much for your transparency. I too can relate. I've been natural since 2009. I don't like wearing my hair in this natural state. I thought that if I just kept doing it eventually I would like it because other people liked it on me but I realized I was doing it for everybody else instead of myself. And I wanted to be this natural hair motivation for other people but inside I was sad about my own hair. I felt hidden for so long in my own hair, but this video really inspired me to step outside of what I feel like I should be and become who I really want to be. Glad more naturals are speaking out because I know a lot of people can relate to this subject. Don't get me wrong. The natural hair movement was a beautiful time but sometimes I feel like I'm stuck in 2009.
I’ve cut my hair and grown it out natural a few times over the past 6 years. I’ve done the straight hair natural where I straightened by hair every 2-3 weeks, and I’ve done just fully natural where I don’t put any heat on it except every few months to trim. I have to say being a straight hair natural was the healthiest my hair had ever been. I had less split ends, almost no single strand knots, my hair was just an inch from my tailbone with full ends. Since doing the fully natural I’ve noticed more split ends, endless single strand knots, thinning and broken edges and my curls will never be uniform enough to look good in styles and my hair shrinks up sooo much it’s so frustrating. I’ve decided to go back to straightening my hair more regularly and I don’t care what people have to say about my choice because I’ve proven that this works better for me. It’s still my hair, no chemical straightening. How i choose to wear my natural hair shouldn’t matter. The point is that I am taking care of it and I am wearing it in a way that I’m comfortable with.
Once or twice a month seems like a happy medium. I think people were concerned about heat damage when they were wearing sew ins and flat ironing their hair several times a week. I definitely want to try straight natural cause I get breakage when my hair keeps tangling and I have low porosity fine hair so I think it’s a low manipulation option! I noticed when I go to salons when they detangle my hair it’s from the root and not the ends which further sheds my hair! I don’t like spending all that time on my hair either and I’m sorry but I don’t like untamed hair either and black women shouldn’t shame each other for not wanting to wear a fro. The only afros l liked are the big ones with waist length hair lmao
I am happy to have found straight natural side of RU-vid. I straightened my hair for years, went natural, loved my curls, but I'm bored of it and always worry about straightening when I really liked how I look with straight hair. My curls are also super time consuming, don't always turn out like I planned and if I don't have time I do slick buns which are damaging too. I don't want to damage my curls but life is too short to be spending so much time on my hair and it not even turning out great every time.
I’m with you! I admire all hair types. I’m 4b and a straight natural also. The only part of my hair that is a wash and go every so often is my bang when I’m wearing a bun. My hair is very dense and I love it, but it’s difficult for ME to deal with, so being a straight natural is my preference. Everybody needs to mind their own damn business. You’re beautiful sis!❤
I completely agree with you! I feel the exact same way you do. I'm not comfortable with wearing the afro all the time and the shrinkage is real 😂😂😂..I'm so glad I'm watching your video❤
I relate so heavy damn. I hate that you were told that about your natural fro. I see so many bw tear each other apart when it comes to natural hair it's no joke. I'm a type 4 TWA & I got tired of doing a WnG LOL just threw it under a wig and stopped using oils as well as stopped washing my hair weekly, surprisingly it's responding well. I'm def looking forward to your heat trained content, your hair is beautiful!
I am one months post hair transplant and I CANNOT WAIT to start my journey as a straight natural! Our hair is so beautiful, grows long, with lot of body and look full even when it’s fine ❤️ in the 8 years I have been natural and at the same time trying to regrow my edges, I have been scared away from heat by ne NHC and as a result I had my hair in constant protective styling (cornrows) and saw my hair constantly breaking, zero progress.
Your hair is gorgeous. I just started my journey from texturized to (straight) natural this past January. Really for a healthier head of hair but I had or have NO intentions on rocking a fro. If it floats someone’s boat…do you. It’s just not my thang! And YES I LOVE BEING A BLACK WOMAN!
Having long natural hair is a whole different experience 🤦🏽♀️. It’s almost torture and I’m thinking about becoming a straight hair natural. Mini braids has worked wonders for manageability, BUT taking them out is a nightmare, especially having long natural hair.
Yes! Your hair is beautiful and I’m excited to see your straight natural/heat trained content. Can’t wait to hear about your regimen, techniques and products. 😊
Thank you for this video!!!!!! I feel the EXACT same way about everything you said. It makes me feel good to know I’m not the only one. But not only that, that I’m not wrong for enjoying my stretched hair on a regular basis! We only live once. Like what you like and enjoy it.
At the end of the day do what makes you happy! There isn’t a rule book to this. Personally i enjoy being a curly natural. And my little sis was a straight natural for a long time now she went curly. Do what works best for you and your lifestyle
Your hair looks so pretty, and healthy. I have finally decided to become a straight natural, because deling with my natural hair all of these years has been a literal job. I'm ready for maneable hair that will thrive, because unlike now i will be motivated to do it, New subbie here thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
Loved the video and happy to know you had a successful hair transplant. I never had a relaxer, I used to be a straight hair natural and I'm considering going back to that as my life is getting busier. A few years ago I grew my hair out, but I had to really keep my hair in protective styles like twist and flat twist ALL the time to really get the growth and avoid single strand knots. At this time in my life, I'm not going for that look again. So straight hair, here I come! It really does reduce single strand knots which I love.
Amen and amen. I've been a straight natural for almost a decade. My hair is fine and beautiful and healthy. I keep my trimmed in a Bob because I'm petit and it fits my overall look. Maybe in my 40s I'll grow it down to your length. Love this video. Wear your hair straight, girl, I love how your length frames your face ❤
I’ve been natural almost 10 years and I’m about to switch to being a straight natural… mainly because I have a baby and it has been difficult to find time to actually do it.
I’ve seen a lot of videos on RU-vid of women with alopecia using a dermaroller to regrow their . Thanks for sharing your experience, I’m definitely considering doing heat trained natural hair.
You're speaking my truth. My natural hair is exhausting. It's long because I basically ignored it while in braids. And when I have to deal with it, I want to cut it off. Single strand knots were weakly.
I've been a straight natural for many years and the biggest tip I have to keep the hair healthy is doing regular cholesterol treatments. They are not all created equal so find one that works for you. Queen Helene works for me. Cholesterol treatments really soften, detangles, and gives the added protection you will need and I noticed that my hair straightens better after incorporating cholesterol. You can use it as a deep conditioner OR a prepoo if you feel it's too heavy and still get the benefits.
Ive been trying to stick with natural this past year (after 20 years of straightening) but im going back to straight. Its exhausting thinking about my hair all day every day, and being unhappy with it 80% of the time...I tried!
That's the reason I prefer relaxed hair No shrinking, And I live my relaxed hair. Your hairvis beautiful, you should do another video on the products and oils leave-in shampoo conditioner and deep conditioner you use. Thank you much for sharing God-bless you 🙏🏽 💞💞💞
I love this video. I tried the curly hair thing too, but I’m a natural with hair pressed (using pressing comb, not flat iron). Anyway, sooooo much money wasted on all the products, trying to do everything you tube girls were doing. Ending up with dry, matted hair, lookin’ crazy. I just went right back to pressing it and it sits on top of my butt crack now, haaaaaaaaaaa. So much detangling and trying to avoid silicones while going by all of these rules. My hair loooooooves silicones. So now, very few products, and I got a Rev Air hair dryer which is a dream come true, no more yanking blow dryers through my hair either, AND no more air drying over night. My hair has never been healthier. I do not care what someone else does or try to copy to follow some sort of hair rule that my hair hates.
Your transparency is do refreshing & your hair looks healthy & beautiful! I have been relaxed since a teenager, and my fine hair is not thriving. I've been wearing sew ins for a long time & also suffer from thin damaged edges and a recurring bald spot at the crown of my head, whenever I get stressed My hair length has been stuck at my shoulders. No growth retention from sew ins. Right now I'm wearing knotless braids. My hair is now mostly natural because of getting back to back sewins and only getting edge ups. I've been getting full relaxers maybe once a year. Everytime I mention going natural to my long time stylist, she shoots me down. I will be 50 next year and honestly I'm tired. I want my own hair to grow and be healthy. I would definitely want to be straight natural as well. Thank you! 😍
❤❤❤❤yes this is what I feel been straight natural for almost a year. I straighten my hair once a month and honestly it was the best thing I could have done
AWESOME VIDEO! I agree, the topic I was interesting, yet, there’s absolutely no need to “explain” your hair decisions! Your hair is obviously very healthy and beautiful! I’m really getting discouraged with my natural hair. Like you, i prefer straight hairstyles. Unfortunately, i sweat so EASILY in my head, so silk presses doesn’t last at all. Very frustrating! I’m trying hard to not return to a relaxer bc it’s just so much easier. Will watch more videos, maybe I can learn a new technique for that will work for my hair. Thanks for sharing your experiences &’thoughts on being a straight Natural.
I have your hair type and I absolutely agree. The knots, the matting, the constant need for moisture…it has to stop. Good natural hair products are really expensive. I just can’t any more. I am over it. Going back to straight. If someone wants to spend hrs per work styling 4C hair, good for them. I am not doing it anymore.
I agree the part where you said who has time to think about hair every second! Hit home. I have so much else I want to do with my life than worrying about my hair and honestly having it blown out is more convenient. Your hair looks amazing❤
Yup I definitely think a big crux in natural hair or just afro textured hair in general is that a lot of black women are socially programmed to be judgemental. Looking back at my childhood, my hair was never relaxed but it was never curly natural: my mom just blow dried and put it in protective styles. They weren't stylish in any form tbh which sucked but my mom was a conservative woman and regardless of how I felt it got the job done and as a result my hair was fucking long AND HEALTHY. It was like that up until middle school. Even though my hair was longer than most girls, they would still find something to shred apart my esteem: my hair was frizzy, my hair was styled ugly, etc. So I started ironing my hair without proper knowledge on how to do it safely and started wearing styles that left my hair exposed annnnnnnnnnnd here we are. 🤷🏽♀️ I do think the natural hair movement added a lot of positivity because it allowed black women to be more informed about their hair (like, I still wouldn't recommend relaxers b/c there's literally a cancer risk involved and we already have enough of those in our lives) but I do think we need more communal and intergenerational dialogue about this stuff. Love that my mom cared for my hair BUT she never tried to teach me how to take care of my own hair and only threatened, "you're ruining it," with no explanation or context to inform me of my decisions. Never tried to find a middle ground to give me more stylish hair-dos while remaining protective. Again, I think a lot of issues in afro hair discussions are linked to broader socio-cultural habits in black cultures and communities. Edit for added context: I grew up in the 90s/early 2000s so this was before RU-vid and I didn't have sisters or have a lot of girl friends growing up. My upbringing kind of deprived me of that social contact and I think a really important thing about afro-textured hair is that it kind of forces us to be communal in order to have trusted friends do our hair.
You make me feel good about switching back. I Love my bouncy shiny curls again. The shrinkage was real for me 🤯 🤯. Sometimes i looked like my hair exploded in the microwave 🤣 🤣. I've noticed alot of RU-vidrs have went back to being straight naturals. Me and my hair are Friends again after switching back to being a straight natural. Being heat trained for 10 years i don't know what i was thinking. I press and curl my hair once a month or biweekly and use satin pillow hair rollers after i curl it. You wear your hair Sis.
I miss my straight hair, man I use to wear some styles back then I would draw my hairstyles for the week, no lie lol. Always got compliments, I need to know how to do this heat training thing . Love this video, subbed and liked❤
I sooooooo wanna be a straight natural! Here’s my thing my cousin who is a straight natural I have literally watched her hair go from mid back to shoulder length 🤦🏽♀️
I was just thinking the same thing! I don’t want a relaxer , but my curly hair is only cute in the back! The front of my hair has always been so loose that I have to wear it in a half up half down constantly. All that pulling the front up is putting too much stress on my edges. Straight natural it is!
I 1000% agree with this video. I have been natural for 8 years and while I LOVE the look of it on me, it is high maintenance. I wear my hair in wash n go's mostly and while they look great, once my hair is in that style I can't do anything else with it for that week. And, I just came back from vacation and b/c of the humidity and new environment my wash n go looked bad. Every time I go on vacation I say the same thing to myself, I miss the days of relaxed hair. I miss being able to not give one care about my hair b/c i could easily wash it and slick it back when I get to the hotel room. With natural hair there is always a styling preparation. With twist outs sometimes you have to retwist nightly or every few nights, you don't know how the twists will look the next day. It's all just a pain. I would easily be a straight haired natural if I didn't sweat in my scalp so much. I love the look of blown out hair, I like twist outs on fluffy blown out hair, I like showing my length. I am going to start blow drying my hair and seeing how that goes. I miss being able to comb through my hair to style it.
If you want to become a straight natural i suggest looking on to chi enviro keratin treatment! I sweat throughout the week and have been in wind & humidity and my hair did not revert at all. Normally my hair is a poof ball by the 2nd day. I just washed it for the first time since getting the treatment and my hair was a breeze to detangle and style. I notice such a difference in strength, shine, and softness as well.
Listen!!!! I have long thick 4c/4b hair and I have a love hate relationship. I was on the brink of texturizing it because of the knots and it’s hard to maintain when u are busy like I am. Thank God for this video because I wanna be a straight natural but I was wondering it.
Wish I saw this video two months ago before I relaxed my hair after two years AGAIN. This will be my fourth time transitioning. My hair always responded well when it was stretched but I’ve always hear about not using so much heat because it is damaging. Wash and gos never worked for me either. Seriously thinking about the straight natural life this time. Thanks for the inspiration. 😊
I've been a straight natural for years and for me there is no mother way. My hair straightens quicker with less heat now that it's heat trained. I still have a bit of curl pattern but my hair is way more manageable than before when I wore it curly. Also no tangles. The natural hair nazis get on my nerves as well. I stopped listening to them pretty much from the beginning. Everything ain't for everybody. Just go back to the basics and stick to a routine and your hair will be fine. Also, a low protein conditioner is key for me retaining length.
I've just found your video and have been contemplating going to tex-lax my hair. I've been natural for over 7 years and my hair hasn't grown all that much it is short actually. I get a lot of single strand knots in the back and regular knots. I have hypothyroidism and my hair is naturally weak. Even with short hair it's still too much work, time and money. So, manipulating it all the time is definitely too much. I loved most everything that you said, and I have definitely made up my mind. I have learned a lot about how to take care of my hair in my natural journey. It's time to stretch my hair now. I like texture so I will not totally relax it straight. Nice video!
I love how real you are about this topic. I love straight hair. I have some thinning so I'm nervous to start straightening until I strengthen my hair. Once my hair is healthy enough if I don't get a relaxer I will be straightening my hair. BTW your hair looks amazing! Definitely hair goals for sure!
I started with the revair. Easy way to blow dry and help reduce tangles. The I decided to flat iron at LEAST once a month, 2 times max so I deep condition and trying to find a way to get moisture without reverting my hair. No perm for me I have bad reactions to those. Hair loss, shedding, scabs, bleeding itching dandruff scalp all from perms. Smh
I’ve been natural since 2014. It is HARD for me to maintain my Afro. I be having a lot going on & I have two kids, so I feel like going straight natural is perfect for me. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE my Afro, but in order to get my hair in order I have to do what’s best for it.
I'm trying straight natural this weekend because my hair used to be thick and below my shoulders when I had a relaxer but I had undiagnosed autoimmune issues that caused inflammation and my scalp, so I had to stop relaxers. My natural hair is thick than ever but it is un-manageable. I spend too much time and money on products and styles that don't work for me. Ever 2 or 3 months I tell myself I will go back to relaxers now that my scalp is better, but then I chicken out. So I have decided to try to wear it Straight Natural because I like how thick my hair is now BUT if this doesn't work I will be going back to relaxers. I know how to take care of my relaxed hair and people always thought I had a wig because my hair used to look "too perfect". I'm glad you said what you did about not letting other women tell me how to wear my own hair.
Wash and go and other natural styles took me years to successfully complete. I can do my entire wash and go in 1.5 hours and that includes washing, drying and styling. Once a week to achieve the style they lasts with a good leave in , cream and hard hold gel. Deep conditioning 1 once a week with heat helped me with the detangle. Now I’m ready start a new method of hair care. Only because my length isn’t visible with my curls. My curls touch my shoulder.
First off, your hair is beautiful ! I want to try the straight natural alternative so bad but I just want to understand how ppl maintain this look. I live in south Florida so it never stays straight, I step outside and it is over!!! How in the world are y’all keeping it straight for an entire month 😔
Straight natural seems like the best for me now. I’m ready to get up and go plus I like the straight hair look. I’m getting my silk press ons 2 weeks and after that I’ll look into more straight hair natural videos because I want the versatility and to have less time doing my hair.
I’m becoming a straight hair natural again now. I used to be then had the idea as well of being a curly hair kinda girl. But honestly my hair breaks so much more when it’s curly or if I don’t put heat to it. It’s so time consuming as well and it gets super knotty. So now I don’t really care if my hair doesn’t kink. I’m just gonna do what’s best for me and retain length that way. And to be honest curly hair just isn’t for everyone. And I know for sure it isn’t for me.
Thanks for video I just recently became a straight natural as well I love it too. These products is getting too high for one and I had been in the natural state for about 6 years and I can't believe how long it is once straightened out . The biggest reason for me was my hair grew so much that my head hurt and I couldn't do one bun or two cuz it hurt so I think I met my goal it as long as yours too!!!!❤👍🏾
I feel like some 4C girls want us all miserable like them. Because stop getting mad that people dont LIKE that hair type on themselves. Its not self hate that shit takes TIME.
