@@IndianOverlander Still the bash plate is too low. Seeing the wheelbase, it will touch down. Also its height will make it nose dive in sudden breaking.

@@anchit44 thats what i mean. The bash plate is easily altered. My gurkha has 235 mm of clear ground clearance after altering the bash plate and running 245/75/16 inplace of 245/70/16 size tyres. This is a significant improvement and the underbody bash plate does not touch anymore. There isn't significant diving on braking on surface roads. On offroad conditions the speeds are too low to cause nose dive on braking.

Agree with the post: and furthermore @DCV I have a Scorpio 4wd, for the last 6 years, I've always felt the need of a true offroader. In that respect,Gurkha stands out from Mahindra on two very important features 1. Trouble free cold starts at negative 22 degrees at greater than 12000 feet. No Mahindra diesel fuel system is remotely that competent. On the other hand Gurkha's Mercedes-Benz DNA shines through in that respect. We have seen this in your Winter spiti trip. 2. With Thar you get a half way measure with a limited slip differential on the rear axle. With Gurkha you get fully lockable front and rear differentials. We have seen this in your Rajasthan trip.

For past 6 months I'm using my Gurkha Explorer for daily (2x70 km) commuting in Highways of Gujarat. Earlier I mainly used it for offroading in jungles & mountains of North-eastern states and used i-10 for daily commute. Following are my lessons of transition from offroading to commuting mode of travel. 1)Nuts & bolts have to be regularly tightened. Especially the 4 bolts joining propeller shaft with gearbox. 2)Alignment has to be maintained rigorously - toe, caster, camber. Knowledgeable alignment mechanics are rare. 3)Changed rear M/T tyres to A/T for better traction & mileage. 4)High profile 245/75/R16 tyres for smooth rolling over speed breakers. 5)Avoiding Indian Oil diesel outlets. Shell V-power has done wonders in making the engine smooth like petrol engine and no more misfiring. Acceleration also has become quicker. 6)Thinking to fill tyres with Nitrogen to minimise expansion due to heat. Mileage has exceeded the factory specified 10kpl to 10.6 - 11kpl (without AC). Cruising @100 kph is no longer a chore. Moreover the high seating position gives you ample time in preparing for overtaking like trucks thus compensating for lesser pick-up to some extent.
