In 2016 I posted a video titled "Coming Out" on this RU-vid channel, and then a few years ago, I deleted it. I wanted to explain why I took my "Coming Out" video down, and how I hope this new video can represent what I originally wish I had posted.
The article I mentioned in the video: attitude.co.uk/article/brenna...
If you would like a personalized video from me, for yourself or to gift to a friend, click on this link and "book me" on Cameo: www.cameo.com/brennanclost?qi...
I can film a Happy Birthday video for you, or read off a script that you write, anything you want (within reason lol).
I post daily on Instagram and Tiktok so if you'd like to check me out there, here are those links!

I can hear the emotion in his voice when discussing the difficult bits. Then he goes from sweet and polite to ‘how fucking dare you’ and ‘for what’ with a death stare 😂 working those chocolate brown eyes

Hi, Brennan! I would like to say thank you for sharing all of the insecurities you shared with everyone. You are so brave just to be open-minded and it's cruel to hear the people being unkind to you. I'm proud of you! In case if it cheers you up, I suffered from autism and went through loneliness from my friends. So, I can relate to your story. No matter who you are, Brennan, you are beautiful. I stand by you and we shall be kind to each other! ✊🏾😢👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾👊🏾💯☺☺

Hun if you got diagnosed with Autism that is for life it’s not something you really get over, you can find coping mechanisms for things that can be difficult for you in certain situations like if you don’t like or struggle with loud areas or crowded places you can get ear defenders or fidgets which can help ground you and give you something to focus on and the ear defenders can help with blocking out loud noises if you prefer to have music in those situations then maybe try finding some wireless earbuds (you can find some brand new that are relatively cheap on eBay if you don’t fancy spending like 150-200 quid on some) that have decent noise cancelling on them which you could always pair with ear defenders over the top of them if you need more noise cancelling in certain situations. If you suffer from sensory overloads (which can happen due to too much input they can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to calm down to around 2 hrs (that’s my experience with them anyway) and also need glasses you can always get prescription sunglasses which mean you can still see while also blocking out any excess light if you don’t need glasses a regular pair of sunglasses can help too. Sorry this is a lot of information, this comment isn’t meant to be rude or mean or anything like that I also have autism and thought it might be helpful if I shared some of my own coping mechanisms. Hope these help! If you want to ask any questions you can always reply to this and I’ll try and answer as soon as I can :)

Life is not a rehearsal. You are wise, brave, thoughtful and clearly recognize that fact. Happiness is not possible if one does not accept and love oneself. You have overcome being treated incredibly bad by thoughtless, selfish people and have moved past that to become a successful mature human being and a role model for others.

Thank you for posting this, it provided food for thought and growth. Good for you taking control of your own story, and defining who you are yourself, rather than being pidgeonholed by others. There was a lot of lessons in here, from how believeing to be supportive can feel intrusive and almost dictatory for the person you want to support, to how difficult it is to find one's way when being on one's own a long way from home and one's loved ones, trying to fit in with a new crowd, as you were at Juliard. The boxes people try to pidgeonhole people into are simplifications that don't accurately reflect real life. Rather than thinking of sexuality as boxes, we should imagine it more as a line and percentage between straight and gay. Very few on that line would be 100% straight or 100% gay, most would land somewhere inbetween. I use to calculate that people who refer to themselves as bi tend to usually be at least 60 to 70% gay - those below that tend to see themselves as straight. The more straight people are, the less of a problem they feel gays, bis and more to be. Homophobes tends to be those terrified by seeing one in the mirror every day. Even if their gay percentage is as low as 10 to 15%, those 10 to 15% scare them so much they become obsessed to supress them. Hating and attacking what scares them automatically follows as the next step (no pun intended). The need to escape what scares them, or an attempt to hide their true self, are what motivates most homophobes - who believe that by attacking homosexuality and gays no one will realize they themselves could be gay. Because being found out to be gay is what scare them most, because of their religious or ultra macho environment, many homophobes automatically see homosexuality as being the evil, instead of the intollerance from people not willing to accept gays, and who either freezes gays out, or attacks them. You are absolutely right that people themselves must be allowed to define who they are, and how and when they want to communicate that to the world. Tolerance, understanding, acceptance and respect must not only be reserved for people fitting into the pidgeonholes, but also for those who feel they fall between those holes.

Brennan, thank you so much for this video, it meant a lot to me since I recently came out as bi to my parents and my dad didn't take it well. I kept asking myself what did I do wrong, but with some help from my amazing and supportive friends I realised that I didn't do anything bad, it's my dad the one who was wrong for yelling at me and saying awful things. Anyways, I'm so glad the internet exists to help us find our people, and I wanted to say that your video made feel accepted and I hope that in a few years it'll get better💜💜

I hope the next generation grows up in a world where coming out isn't as big of a deal as it is now, because it's becoming a real. It's become a normal thing, and I don't want it to sound like people don't have the right to keep this information in as their personal secret, but people need to learn to grow up, and that people can live however they want as long as it does no hurt anybody. I grew up in the eighties, had to wear glasses and was one of the poorer kids in my class. Being gay just wasn’t an option with all the bullying I already got, so I lied to myself for way too long. Your story really took me back to how that felt. I didn’t have anyone out me though, and I’m sorry you did. Loved you in TPT, and even more getting to see the real you.

Thank you so so so much for this. my friend likes to joke that I got pulled out of the closet and beaten with the hangers. And she is kinda right. Hearing that I’m not alone is a gift. when I started coming out years ago I mostly came out to my colleagues at work and I know some of them were gay so it just naturally became something that spread through the rumor mill. Likewise I never came out to my father but he found out and told my relatives back in Europe and none of them minded. Also, my sister in California outed me to her husbands relatives and no issues there either. On the other hand a few years ago a colleague spotted me at the gay bar and they did not out me to anyone. It really depends on the circumstances and I know that some people really get upset when they are outed to others but truth is people are always curious. When it becomes a problem is when someone discriminates against us because they heard about us through the rumor mill. This is how hate crimes can happen. In the end we have two choices, be scared and live in fear or be brave and face our fears.

I get it, I kinda came out to people in my school by being confident when they asked and didn't bring it up again so I could be the friend who's gay instead of the gay friend...or not friend anymore for some :/ but school is starting soon so we'll see what happens. Maybe give someone else the confidence to be themselves or even think they could talk to me. Someone they can trust.

I understand you very well and I don't want to belittle the difficulties you have had. When I was a child, there was a law in Germany (!) until 1969 that sentenced gays to 2 years in prison. Coming out at that time was completely impossible! Even after this law was toned down, it was still extremely difficult. By the way, the Nazis sent gays to the concentration camps where thousands of them were tortured to death. Today, there are still countless countries where gays are persecuted. In Saudi Arabia, for example, gays are still punished with lashes. Sometimes it helps to put one's own problems into perspective. All the best to you and thank you for your openness!

That is a bizarre story about Julliard. When I was in college. no one would have been so obsessed with a classmate being gay. That is not to say there was no speculation or gossip about others, but a classmate demanding that someone come out to their entire class? Or, an entire class stopping and staring when a gay classmate entered the room? Never. That sounds like something from a small town high school in the 1930's, not a prestigious arts college in a major cosmopolitan city, especially one where a large percentage of the students are LGBTQ.
