Josh was nice enough to let me drive his wild MX-5, but ultimately I didn’t feel comfortable enough to risk it. Struggled a lot but still had a blast with everyone for another great Ireland LZ World Tour stop! Ready for the next one ⚡️🏁

probably was a good call, no sense in risking the car or yourself but yeah looked like a lot of people were having trouble with grip on that track with even a tiny bit of moisture. makes ya appreciate what TRay was able to do in the miata a bit more with way less tire. I still think you should try a Miata build.

I was kind of flabbergasted that Grant took a stock Z over a decent comp car, and then roared with laughter as he danced through battle after battle in the rain with it. That thing and the kid with the Datsun were the two craziest stories out of that weekend and it was such a cool event to watch. But getting back to the point, a drift car is a highly personal thing, being comfortable is super important, Grant made a wise decision, and I'm wondering if going forward it might not be a bad idea to have a couple of modestly built Z's hanging around as spares since there isn't a drifter alive that can't comfortably swing one. Would have loved to have seen you out there, but sometimes there just aren't enough Z's.

It totally happens!! It's awesome to just see you out there, learning and growing in so many different platforms and build styles. I know that there's usually SO MUCH happening at once that if the smallest inconvenience happens, it can throw off everything for a weekend. You jumped into a brand new platform and gave it everything. Still sick to see this video and wish you the best on the next one!

Here’s a tip I’ve learned from drifting low power cars if you do have to downshift for a tighter corner go in with a little more speed you feel comfortable with pull e brake and after letting go then shift down should add insane angle and you should be able to power out of it

@@wishtheyunderstoodme You can manage the reputational & ego issues with driving a car that is undriveable in the wet solo, just get Dave Egan to set spectator & viewer expectations for wet sessions, but you absolutely can't manage putting it into a wall & writing it off as easily. More seriously, you can't manage the car spinning on a lead run & putting _somebody else_ into a wall, destroying their pride & joy. 'I span 3 times every lap in the wet in practice & qualifying & then I wrote off one of DMac's priceless art cars by spinning on transition in the wet when he was following & smashing it into a wall for him...' is not a video I want to watch.

You do not need to use handbrake in the rain, just flick gently and use power to initiate drift. That way you have both hands to handle the drift. Once you learn that you can start using the handbrake by jabbing is fast like an anti lock brake. The drift will also look smoother. You also need speed, speed is you friend in drifting, use the angle of the car to slow the drift.

It took me watching two laps to see there was not a front sway bar in the car. THEY PUT A REAR IN WITH NO FRONT! Honestly, shame on the drift game guys for this, that is pathetic to turn over a car without having put an ounce of common sense into the actual suspension setup. Almost seams like a bad joke.

You need to buy a low power AE86 and practice your throttle control and clutch kicks. Seems like you’re relying too much on the hydro and high power motors for your drifting. Get a AE86 and practice, practice, practice. Anybody can drift a high power car with a hydro. Get you that Initial D training!

There was a lot of things that seemed a little off or odd. Steering, throttle response, power band, etc. You know you made the right decision, still disappointing that you didn't get to drive. You've had some rough luck lately. Looking forward to seeing it turn around.

I get it was a new build and all, and this is no disrespect to collete but clearly fear got the better, zero commitment and trust, with a driver level not as high as the car i couldnt help but think she should of swapped the car with the white 350z that was there, at least she has some seat time in a 350 and would of felt a little less alien.

@@jackstrathdee I didn't say it was wrong, just seemed odd. Self steer was slow, so I wonder about how the front end geometry was setup. Doesn't appear to have a whole lot of camber. I've always felt a drift car without a front sway bar makes the front end unpredictable. It seemed like the gearing wasn't a great match for this track/tire combo. As you said, she wasn't able to bond with it. It happens in all forms of racing. Of course a lack of trust is going to mean a lack of commitment. Considering her background I don't know that fear would be a factor, unless it's fear of wrecking someone's car. If it makes any difference, I thought the car Adam was driving was set up weird as well. As for swapping, Grant had already swapped to the 350Z, so she didn't have any other options. What makes the car a "high level" car? To be fair, I am biased, I don't like Miata's. I've road raced them and I pretty much hate the weight distribution and track width vs wheel base. I also wonder at times if Collete's actual racing background hurts her a little for drifting.

Colette you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself! I am no expert nor am I a drift competitor but I am Irish and I have been watching drifting and mondello for at least 15 years now and trust me every single man and woman that has came over that hill has spun out and have crashed multiple times and yes that does include James Deane and all of the other top drivers! It was only 2 or 3 years ago that Deane went off track! And on top of all of that you were also dealing with patchy conditions along with 3 or 4 surface changes through the track! But massive respect has to go to you for stepping back and not wanting to risk spinning out while in tandem battles and not wanting any damage to be caused to the car! That takes a true sports woman to be able to do that so fair play to you Collette! :) keep that head held high!

collete, just a small bit of info from analysing your driving; in the wet you were waaayyy too early with the hand brake, every time. the car was super willing to slide, you didnt need to engage it from so early before the turns, thats why you constantly spun. much later handbrake and getting right on the power to feel the slide is where you needed to be. amazing effort though, love to see it!

The car seemed to do better than the 86 adam was driving. Everyone else sugar coats it and says "dont be embarassed". You werent embarassed at the time but you seen it yourself that you were uncomfortable and scared of the car knowing you had to go into the corners hotter than what you were comfortable with to get the car to lay down a solid line. Dont blame the car cause it look solid inside the car and outside.

This car on dry was well setuped to drive after even Josh and Dave were struggling with transissions and being stable in the corner. On wet - don't know. Sad that Adam didn't drive with you in car even one lap. For sure he would say "damn Collete, full send and trust your skill!" - and it will end up a lot better :) It is noticable on onboards, that you can't really drift without a speed and trying to baby the car. You had such style at the beginning (initiating slow, driving half throttle and half rpm range etc) and this is why you thought that LS is good for you. I thought, that you 'clicked' in Japan, cause that was very noticable there with low powered car, but here looks like you've lost it again. I know, that this is new car for you, you don't want to crash it etc etc, but you were even not trying going 'more send' and more angle. This car will have not enough speed to drive thru first corner without 4th gear, will have not enough wheelspeed to go sideways, will not transission to second corner from 0 angle :)

why would you want to give up though?? you're a very good drifter! when the universe gives you another difficulty level, don't run away, become one with the challenge! you should be hyped as hell to learn something new because staying on what you know already gets stale after awhile. sean had to learn from 0 - 100 to beat DK, you're there already, might as well keep going. there are like 0 female drifters too so prove them wrong.. no running allowed!

From what ia see car felt fine after last changes, i saw you was scared and expecting wet track when it was dry, very hard condition The car had to be driven waaaaay harder, from the zone 2-3 need to go deeper and later with down shift but that doesnt metter now. A tad too much power for that car in a drift event I would say. Doesn't help that it's a MASSIVE weight and wheelbase difference from everything else you drive on the regular. Sway bar scenario didn't help either. That being said, from here, it looked like when the track was really wet and you were spinning out, you were relying too much on the hydro. 50-50 weight cars are supposed to dance on the wet, just throw the weight and play with the gas.

Hi thanks for showing the good, the bad and the ugly. It looks like the car really threw you off your balance to the point that even when it drove a little better you where just not feeling it anymore. Im sure if you would park it in a garage and would come back next week you would have tamed it. No worries, dont doubt yourself in any way just drive. Its all a mental game. Remember what I said about spec miatas........... .the mx5 and miata aren't the same after 05 the miata =mx5 no longer has rear wishbone a arm suspension swaped in 06 for a 5link suspension

That car is a full tilt car, which is definitely different from anything you’ve driven, it is snappy and has a decent amount of turbo lag so you always have to be on throttle. This is not a dig on you, you’ve never driven anything like it, I do think it could be drivable with smoother throttle input, every time the throttle gets jabbed and the rpm spikes it upsets the car, turbo cars in rain are just inherently difficult because it’s harder to control rpm’s consistently. I’d argue the reason grant was doing so good isn’t because of the lack of power, it was the lack of a boost curve to account for. That car doesn’t like to be driven anything less than 75% throttle and it shows, hard to do in a new car at a new and very difficult track, keep your head up, you’re kicking ass for how little experience you have compared to the rest of the field, lack of sway bar def didn’t help though

I'm so proud of you for all the attempts and perseverance through frustration in those practice runs. That car, while you looked great in it, was not built for you. Your discomfort just grabbing for the shift is enough to throw anyone. I'd have loved to have seen you get out there and kill it, but I know you made the best judgement call for you and for someone else's car. I'm sure the owner appreciates the alpha test you just ran on the miata.

Thing is mx5s require a lot of commitment on throttle in order to make them work. You are driving the car the same way you'd drive your corvette or chaser and that just won't work in an mx5, its one of those cars that you have to drive with pure aggression, it forces you to create momentum instead of relying on the inertia of the car. I have no doubt the car probably isn't setup properly but i don't think your biggest struggle is coming from the way the car is setup.

It was a good try. To bad Rudy didn’t make the same decision. It’s always better to miss the event than put others at risk. Perhaps next time they won’t limit you to street tires, they aren’t made to do what you do especially under bad conditions. Perhaps you know someone that will get that restriction removed and just give a width restriction. Hardest track it Europe and bad conditions, I’m surprised they held the comp and just didn’t do one car demos.

People swap back and forth between left and right hand drive like it's nothing and maybe after youve become comfortable in both its not. but shifting and braking with your opposite hand isn't easy when u need precision. I know I havnt bought a manual right hand drive car for that reason.

Mondello although it looks simple. It is not. Especially those clipping points and outer zones. Just the layout in general and it is slightly narrow so transitioning is a little bit weird. You got to do some slightly long e-brake pulls. Not my favorite track. But it's good for learning to hit zones and clip points.

I've done this at mountain bike races. Did practice and quali days ans wasn't feeling it or enjoying it.especially in bad weather. I wasn't enjoying it. So I didn't race. And it was the right decision.

Relax put it this way in the few years the guys at drift games have been building that car Josh has crashed it twice in 3 events. One that weekend on Sunday and one in water grass hill on initiation. The car isn't easy to drive but you tried everything to make it work. You made the right decision to not wreck someone else's car just because you were stubborn and uncomfortable.

Definitely looks tricky, From watching runs from in the car if you waited to down shift until after transition (handbrake first) would allow more time to get car settled. Now in the wet it looked near impossible to keep it from spinning.

The grass spectator bank needs to be sloped more. Unfortunately because it was flat unless you were against the fence you couldn’t see anything. A bit of a waste of time travelling up to see it. I saw more drifting in this video than I did at the event. It was cool to see the guys in the paddock however.

Your cars have more power to get out od stuff and power it when you hand brake it. Most pro will tell u try to drift with no to very little hand brake use clutch and foot brake the more u handbrake u need more power to get out th3 corner and 380 hp isn't much. Thats why v8 qre so easy u floor it and go

I feel like you don't need the hydro in those conditions. Just small flick and power over. Maybe for battles but just putting down laps might be better to take it out of the equation.

In all fairness to you, that car looked totally undriveable in the wet. And in all fairness to Josh, he hasn't had time to set the car up properly because the engine hasn't worked 😂

I'd say grabbing girls at their waist and spinning them is my Forza Horizon and yes, you can just sit on my shoulder in the cbet rally as a nearly little laptop. You want immersion so flying a drone with you and controlling it outside is already possible.

Been watching your channel for quite a while now and you are an amazing driver takes a real good driver to take into consideration that you just aren't ready, and its not easy driving new chassis or new setups and you were doing both definitely killed it out there dont let this break any confidence, your one that makes me push harder to be a better driver look forward to seeing you evolve more.
