Spot on rant! I totally agree. Modern horror films lack a soul, no pun intended. They think they have to follow the new nihilistic style of horror with no humour or nods to the audience. When Scream came out in 1996 and revitalized the genre, it brought that knowing wink that is something that was needed but these days it's been lost again in favour of bleak depression. Blood and gore in spades does not make a horror film! I think Evil Dead Rise tried to start to make things right but decided to go even further into the darkness. By the way, thanks for making up your bed for this video, it seems your cat appreciated it as well! 😸
@@BluRayDisplay Thanks for the comment, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I did actually like Evil Dead Rise, though. It was refreshing to see the same concepts finally leave that cabin, and with interesting characters. Yes, I liked the gore, but there was more to the film that’s enjoyable. Unlike Evil Dead.
@@toomuchellison No worries! I'm working my way through your collection videos now! Oh cool! Yes, that was quite refreshing and I enjoyed the family angle they were going for. I also liked the fact that they just killed nearly all of them and that did add to to tension because even the youngest sister could have died! When I said it goes further into the darkness I meant I just couldn't see what was going on! 🤣 Have a great day! 😎
