This is my first spring in Georgia. Coming from Ohio I had never heard of scalping. I'm glad to find out it's not really needed. lol

It doesn’t hurt the lawn but you don’t have to do it. My neighbors never do and their lawns are green and thick every year! I will update what my lawn looks like as the spring progresses. Good luck with your new lawn!

This year I started in January at E, on the toro, just to clean up the yard trash and crank the mower. Then went down a letter every 2 weeks. No bag. Tiny clippings just somehow disappear with rain. I just started using the bag on the lowest setting on the first day of April as usual. And will bag while pushing in different directions the whole month. Once may hits and everything pops, I jump on the zero turn, and only use the timemaster for touch up work. Seems alot easier and works for me. The 20 bags in 4 hours that I used to do because that's what you tube said, wad demoralizing and I hated it. Thanks for your realistic videos. 22k sqft of bermuda grass, 20 miles south of Atlanta.

Thanks for sharing and sounds like you have a good strategy! I have close to 20k of turf but only half is Bermuda and if I can get by without scalping I won’t miss it one bit! Northeast of Atlanta here and May is usually when it really gets growing here also! Thanks for watching👍

Curious to see how it turns out! I wonder if even something like a minor scalp, something like 1 notch below at what you normally mow off would work without having to bag it. I’m just curious to see if the dead dormant material under the canopy will constantly show its ugly head after each cut. I think it probably decays over time but unsure!

I will update good or bad! Problem is with one notch down on the timemaster it takes an entire half inch. If I need to go that route I can use my old recycler to take about a quarter inch off since it has more adjustment.

I cut a notch below where I want to maintain my lawn.

That’s a good strategy for sure. I may mow a quarter inch lower with the recycler since the timemaster goes down a half inch at a time which is too much! Thanks for watching !

Off topic but need advice. Just had a Rain Bird irrigation system installed and I was left mounds of dirt and clay from the trencher. If I smooth out the mounds will the grass grow back or do I get seeds? If I need seeds where do I get them?

If you have Bermuda don't seed it! It should spread and cover the lines up. Plugging or sprigging are other options but I would see how it fills in first. Bermuda spreads like crazy! Congrats on that new irrigation system couldn't live without mine!

I was listening for that same episode of green and growing. I wondered if that would make it to the lawn care RU-vid channels too

I really enjoy listening as I always learn something new! I’ve thought about skipping the scalp and don’t expect to miss it. Time will tell!

I took a somewhat similar approach and decided I didn’t have time to bag a bunch of grass… Cut the grass at a half inch shorter than maintenance height and just tried to spread the clippings evenly throughout the yard. Ended up going back over it again in mulching mode, but at the end of the day, saved a lot of time and bags. Looks just fine and the grass is greening up here in North Texas.

That sounds like a great alternative to the scalp for sure! Thanks for sharing
