I am here to inspire all of us regular homeowners to have a nicer property so we can all enjoy more time outside!
I am just a dad, husband and outdoorsman who happens to enjoy having a nice yard.
We are all connected. By the internet, shared interests and even the actual land that we maintain connects us. There are many different practices used to have a nice property and different variables and challenges. I am fortunate to have a lot of different elements in mine that may help you. Warm season grass. Cool season grass. Full Sun and Shade. Flat areas and sloped areas. Nice areas and problem areas. Trees, flowers, shrubs and the list goes on.
If you are looking for a channel that shows an average homeowner how to have a nice property to enjoy then you have come to the right place. Thanks for stopping by and make sure to enjoy your time outside.
The spikes are on Amazon got 4 for about 12 bucks. The other components are from the irrigation supply section at any big box like lowes or Home Depot. My Home Depot has the better selection. Will do a more detailed video on this setup in the future. Thanks for watching !
I normally mulch when I mow, but I was thinking the last time I mowed because I had so many weeds that I bagged the last couple times because I felt like if I wasn’t mulching it with the weeds I was cutting it would help me control? Also, I see your recommendation for the fertilizer that I got some baby grass that have taken growth in a large bare spot. Do you think that same type of fertilizer to help it take off now for different concentration?
Bagging is really just a personal preference. I don’t do it regardless of weeds. When you return clippings they contain nitrogen and moisture which is beneficial to the lawn. Hit those weeds with a “safe for lawns” type of herbicide. As far as fertilizer if you didn’t do a soil test a standard type of lawn fertilizer will work fine for your lawn. Right now watering is a big focus in much of the country. If you aren’t getting a lot of rain be cautious with the fertilizer and herbicides. Good luck!
@@lanieroutside for sure! The next one I buy I’m gonna get extra bolts and switch them out at least once a year. Right now I have zip ties where the bolts should be. 😂
Hi, I'm a big fan of your content. You have helped me tremendously with my Bermuda lawn in North Carolina. I was wondering if you could do a video on Bermuda lawn repair? I have multiple spots that need attention. Do I use sand/ soil mixture? Use potting soil? Thanks.
Thanks for following along appreciate you! I plan to do some videos on repairing Bermuda in the future. Just picked up a pro plugger to fix some spots but a lot of my trouble spots in my Bermuda lawn are due to shade.
$630 for a pallet of sod that covers approx 500 sqft! Price per pallet goes down the more you order. So seeding option for around $150 is much more economical. But this will not be an easy project!
For a quick syringe cycle in the afternoon just 15 minutes. If I’m not getting rainfall then I water 20 minutes per zone 2 cycles per day due to the clay soil 2 to 3 times per week. Need to do an updated test on the zones as it was quite a few years back that I did one. Most of the year we get plenty of rainfall but always have a couple of dry times like now
The landscape fabrics they sell at home depot and lowes are not very good at all I agree with you. But, I recently purchased some online from Dewitt. Its a commercial woven poly fabric and i put down a couple layers of it. I can say it feels way more durable then what they sell in stores.
Just put down Spinosad for sod web worms, I would have no lawn left if I didn't. Hydretain for me helps a lot with the sandy Florida soil. I never use fungicides though.
Got to do what works for your lawn! Glad we don't have too many problems with those here. Only thing I've had was army worms about 3 years ago. Thanks for sharing!
Agreed, I’d rather irrigate. One of those little hose ends for over 30 bucks would barely cover my previous 5000 sqft lawn. My current lawn is about 20k sqft would cost a fortune 😬
Without seeing your lawn and how long you have been treating it I would say patience! Trust in the process and it will improve each season. Frequent mowing will help and you can always pull some if you have Bermuda it will self repair. Good luck!
Good luck, right now frequent mowing, post emergent weed control, would be my first two steps in a rough lawn. After those weeds die an application of fertilizer and maintaining an inch of water would be next. Good luck!
7:18 i dethatched it and then scalped it. I couldn't believe how much dead dry grass I had. It's been two weeks and I've watering it with sprinklers and by hand in areas where sprinklers don't reach. Grass slowly getting green, but allot of brown grass still and some places have dark brown like maybe fungus and I do know I saw bugs after dethatching so maybe that's it. I'm going to use a bug remover and then fertilize it the next day also going to put down a layer of healthy top soil with some manure in it to help with soil conditions. I live in southern California where we have clay soil, and it gets extremely hot like 90s and low 100s in July and August. Right now we're seeing 80s and low 90s (June). We don't see allot of weeds just a few that I pull up, but going to use a weed and feed like you suggested to control it. I saw a video on Bermuda Grass where they treated for Grubs(insect) so I think I might have them in grass, so I'll lay some Grub and insect remover down. I thought I would wait until grass starts to green and then Aerator it to help with water reaching roots better. I liked your video and realized I'm not watering enough. The ground in high lump areas(just a few areas) is really hard and looks like it needs fresh soil there, but I think just needs aerator and water. Wish me luck !
Good luck! Sounds like you have a lot going on. I typically don’t use weed and feed on my Bermuda just fertilizer and spot spray a for weeds with a “safe for lawns” type herbicide. Grub control is good if you have had issues with them. Thanks for watching 👍
No if you are talking about the orange switches on top of the trigger, one is a safety and the other is the start stop button. It’s a great machine that I highly recommend will do a video on it alone soon. Thanks for watching.
The crew I used last year used a string trimmer and my sidewalk area looks similar to what you showed. I’ve taken over and am using a blade edger but the damage caused by the string trimmer is slow to heal. Any suggestions on how to help it recover?
If you have Bermuda or a grass that spreads it will recover maybe just skip edging for a few weeks and let it spread. If you have cool season grass like fescue you may need to seed it, Scott’s patch master works well.
I don’t use liquid fertilizer products or reel mow. There are plenty of other RU-vidrs that do! Just a busy homeowner here that sticks with the basics. Good luck this season!
agree I think a blade edge looks better than using a string trimmer. my wife requires (LOL) me to edge with each mow. We have a lot of flower beds and I edge those also. having a dedicated blade edger makes this a much easier process.
You didnt provide us with a better option. I want a 30 inch cut not a 22 or 21. Most anything 30 inch is starting to become a commercial mower. This mower actually is a better cost compared to a commercial. So whats my options then.
If you are a homeowner wanting a 30 inch wide push mower this is your best option! Mine is still going strong on its 4th season. For me the future upgrade is a riding mower mostly due to want to pull implements like a leaf sweeper and core aerator. Thanks for watching 👍
@@paulaward2894 glad it works well for you! It’s just not for me or the majority of homeowners. I enjoy having a nice lawn with less products, less maintenance and a small budget.
PGR!!! Why in the world would you want to use a product that promotes a thicker lawn by encouraging lateral growth, better color, stronger roots, and reduces the chance of browning out your lawn by cutting Bermuda to the stems???
Does Expert Gardner fertilizer include things like Biochar/Humichar and micronutrients like Manganese and Zinc? Wondering if that’s why products like Yard Mastery and Anderson’s PGF Complete are more expensive.
Any advise for tall fescue? I have on hand triple 16 & triple 10. First app this year was with triple 16. Which is what a friend of mine recommended who is a landscaper as well. But maybe triple 10 might work better? I like you just want something affordable and works brother 🤙🏼… Reason I asked is you have fescue in your back yard..
This same fertilizer is for any grass type. However it’s getting late in the season go fertilize tall fescue where I live. If you are further north you may still be in a window to fertilize it before summer. Appreciate you 👊
